NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION OF WORK BACKGROUND TO ATTEND CORPORATE
VITA.Since 1989, I have maintained a public affairs and
speechwriting enterprise registered at Washington, DC and formally designated by the government of the District of Columbia as JOHN DANIEL BEGG "Public Affairs, Writer, Editor, Speechwriting," Certification Number 8999-199496-001/72525. There have been several periods of dormancy in the operations of this enterprise since its inception. During those periods of dormancy, both the federal government and various private sector enterprises have formally or contractually employed me. In the cases of the federal government interludes, they include the Peace Corps of the United States, the Library of Congress, the SBA and the Navy Department. In cases in which I have taken positions with private firms, individuals, charities and other organizations, my duties have varied a great deal and my compensation has similarly been contingent upon the scope of the projects at issue. From 1998 until the present, I have held the position of Director of Public Affairs at The National Foundation for Alternative Medicine, a private medical charity at Washington. My duties have included all of those areas classically considered as public affairs initiatives. Those specifically include, interaction with varied media, internet development, writing, editing, support of the Development operations of the charity, complete overview of the planning, conceptualization, writing and production of all promotional materials including the newsletter _Alternative_ _Perspectives_. I am compensated at an annual rate of about $70 thousands, on a contractual 1099 basis. I would note that I did many private smaller jobs while tending to this position as well as the other formal positions noted in this section that and my hourly rate has been generally $80 the houra"but again contingent very much upon circumstances. From 1995-1996, I worked as a contract writer for The History Factory, a company that produces corporate and private family histories for both public and personal use and dissemination. I hade overall responsibility regarding the writing, editing and appearance of the products produced as well as interviewing corporate leaders, company founders and family members of the institutions and families for whom histories were being developed. My compensation was handled by a private firm at New York City on contract to The History Factory and I was paid $1757 per week on a 1099 basis. Throughout the entire time period since 1989, with the exception of periods of comparative dormancy in my business occasioned by formal government service noted later in this document, I wrote a great deal of personal, highly private correspondence, for individuals and corporate entities. Much of this correspondence was of a highly proprietary nature and some of it was written on a one-time basis, some on an as needed basis and some on a longer-term basis. My fee did vary markedly in this arena, but was generally on an hourly contract schedule of between $150 and $250 dollars the hour. In 1993, I was hired to perform an extremely sensitive and very high profile mission for a government official of high rank. When this official was ready to make his public announcements, I prepared all of his remarks, both spoken and written, handled all press, placed stories on all the major network news broadcasts and in the _New_ _York_ _Times_, the _Washington Post_ and the _Wall_ _Street_ _Journal_, among many other major print press outlets. My fee for this endeavor was private. In addition, throughout the period of the operation of my private business, I also wrote privately, for pleasure, two full-length novels and a work of political satire. Private, family, means, funded these personal writings. -----30----
