SELECTED BUSINESS CONTRIBUTIONS

Initiated the documentation of standard operating procedures within the departme
nt for training and quality control purposes. Result: Procedures for new and old
equipment were written in a way that all current and future employees could pro
perly and consistently use the equipment to produce quality parts.
Managed personality conflicts between two of my employees, avoiding disciplinary
action against either and fostering productivity from both on the job.
Designed and fabricated extension rods to move die stamped tryout parts from one
die to the next die without distorting the panel. Handling the panels by hand h
ad been causing torsional strains that rendered many unacceptable for the next p
rocess. Results: After confirming that the parts produced with the aid of the ex
tensions were satisfactory, my team and I were able to produce the required numb
er of good parts eliminating further scrap and expediting delivery of good parts
to the next process.
Created a custom tool to remove large die buttons from castings for machining. A
button had been inserted too tightly and could not be removed by conventional m
ethods. Removal was necessary for additional 3D machining. Since the die was alr
eady on the CNC mill to be machined, the button needed to be removed as soon as
possible to avoid lost machine time. Results: After several attempts by 3 or 4 o
ther employees to remove the button I was able to make an attachment that could
be fitted to my oversized slide hammer and successfully remove the button in les
s than 2 hours. This saved additional hours of downtime and allowed machining to
continue.
Innovated die design modifications to resolve problems during the die build proc
ess. Result: Die builds were expedited saving time and money and promoting procu
rement of additional jobs in the shop.
Revamped tire data entry software with the help of the original programmer who w
rote the software. The update was necessary to improve the efficiency of enterin
g and organizing data for monthly publishing. Obsolete code was removed and new
code was added to make the process more efficient. Result: The changing nature o
f the data could now more easily be recorded and represented in the published re
port.
Implemented the transition to online UPS shipping services reducing the time nec
essary to fill out shipping forms and coordinate pick-ups. Result: The time save
d translated into thousands of dollars per year saved on personnel hours spent o
n shipping and receiving efforts.
Implemented various quality controls within the PCB photo-imageable department t
hat significantly reduced the number of scrap parts being produced and boosted t
he overall quality of finished pieces through the production process. Result: Sc
rap rate fell from more than 20% to less than 10% within six months.
