ucts with over 200 locations worldwide.
Operations Manager/ Area Production Manager
Local Operations Manager of the Norfolk Virginia CMC facility with 20 million in
annual sales. Supervise local Engineering Manager, Plant Superintendent, Contr
acts Manager, Administrative staff and 45 total division team employees. Product
ion Area Manager for two additional CMC Virginia locations with combined 35 mill
ion in annual sales. This includes the supervision of two Superintendents and 45
production employees.
Accomplishments:
Progression from local Operations Manager to Area Production Manager within 1.5
years.
Successful operation of local division with buildings improvements, grounds, pl
ant layout, equipment, and general operation.
Productivity improvements from 2.3 man hours per ton to 1.5 man hours per ton.
Action planning improvements to plant grounds, processes and productivity for t
wo other CMC Virginia facilities.
Continual improvements to customer service thru reduced reaction time, cycle ti
me, and on time delivery metrics.
Increase of 25k per month on higher margin work by improving service and reduci
ng turn around time to the city sales market.
Plant Superintendent
Monitor and oversee facility operations of 37 million annual sales steel plant f
abricating 40,000 tons of steel rebar per annum. Leading 30 to 40 administrative
and production team employees by administering reviews, providing training, and
guidance both directly and indirectly. Plan and execute four million dollar lab
or, overhead and delivery budget. Implement capital improvements for major equip
ment to plant. Upgrade facility and processes continually using proven business
tools and methods. Administer complete safety system promoting safe working envi
ronment and culture. Manage only plant of 33 certified to produce nuclear power
sensitive material. Manage 1.4 million in freight expenses per year ensuring com
pliance with DOT regulations. Maintain positive customer relationships with more
than 100 contracting firms. Assist sales department in administration and sale
of most major contracts. Ensure jobsite presence to mitigate shortages, back cha
rges, and reduce potential customer and plant errors. Apply lean principles to i
mprove process flow and cost savings. Coordinate volunteer programs for communit
y involvement projects.
Accomplishments:
Progression from Supervisor, to Superintendent of 30,000 ton/ year division to
Plant Superintendent of 40,000 tons/ year division over 13 year tenure.
Successful operation of steel plant with successive improvements to buildings,
grounds, plant layout, equipment, and general operation.
Reduction in labor cost of 4 dollars per ton from 2006 to 2007 due to improved
efficiency. Resultant of a 200k per year savings despite a 3% raise issued to em
ployees during same period.
Improved efficiency and reduced man hours per ton average from 2.2 to 1.6 man h
ours per ton over last four years by using business tools and ingenuity.
Recommended and installed more than 460k of capital expenditure improvements. M
achinery installed reduced employees required by six for fabrication of 16mm, 13
mm and 10mm rebar.
Elected to lead a working group of Managers to increase shearing productivity.
Responsibility of this group led to call in Vendors, Outside Consultants and Ind
ustrial Engineers to assist with the completion of this project. Results for 200
7 were a 6 percent increase in shearing productivity and completion of the 2007
Quality Improvement Story (QIS) for companies downstream 33 divisions. Portion o
f responsibility was to direct and present these improvements to more than 400 u
pper managers within the company.
Successful planning and start up 300k venture of new product line manufacturing
for East Coast Department of Transportation bridge and overpass customers.
Constant reduction of waste in both production processes and materials during t
enure by using employee teams and proven business system for improvement. Annual
budget held below the inflation rate for several years.
Zero accidents in 2007 and no lost time injuries for five years.
Assisted with implementation of vendor managed inventory system based upon usag
e, product production schedules and length between rolling of product.
