Football struggles early on

Sine the football program be-

gan in 1981, the Lakers have
seen many talented athletes walk
through the gates.
Still, the program is looking for
an undefeated season.
With that dream already unat-
tainable for the 2004 season, hope
remains to finish strong with a
successful year.
The first heartbreak occurred
even before school started, on
Aug. 26.
Mercyhurst played rival Gannon
University at Tullio Field.
In front of 4,822 fans, there was
much anticipation regarding the
“big game,”one which most of
the city was looking forward to.
Mercyhurst led most of the
game, but Gannon tied it late.
The Lakers and Knights went
into overtime, and it was only a
matter of minutes before Gan-
non scored, winning 43-37.
Mercyhurst turned the ball over
on their first possesion in the
overtime, and the Knights scored
on the ensuing drive.
