The ProSoft RTU-5/03 processor, aimed strategically at
the SCADA marketplace, is a Rockwell Automation SLC
5/03 processor that has been modified to include the
Modbus Slave protocol developed in Channel 0.
Features and Benefits
The full SLC command set functionality is available, and
the unit is programmed with standard ladder
programming tools (RS Logix and APS). The Modbus
Slave protocol is enabled with the simple addition and
setup of an Integer file at N100. This file configures the
Channel 0 Modbus driver and allows user control over
the operation of the port. In addition, extensive
diagnostic data is returned from the driver to the integer
file, allowing access to troubleshooting data.
After the Modbus protocol is activated, a Modbus host
can read and write data from all the common Modbus
data types (binary in and out, analog in, and holding
registers). In addition, support has been provided for the
transfer of floating-point data, which optionally uses the
'Enron' addressing range. A host can also access the
processor status file S2 to remotely monitor the health of
the unit or to do such things as set the real time clock.
General Specifications
The ProSoft Technology, Inc. RTU-5/03 processor
solution includes the following features:
• Channel 0 port supports Modbus Slave protocol
• Modbus read and write of binary, integer, and
floating-point data types
• Modbus Master can read from or write to the
processor Status File (S2)
• RS-232C handshaking for SCADA radio/modem
applications
• Satellite and Packet Radio support with a
configurable Inter-Character Timeout
• Channel 0 Modbus Port configuration through entry
of configuration values in Modbus Configuration and
Diagnostic File (N100) in ladder logic:
o Slave Addr : 1 to 127 (0 is broadcast)
o Parity : None, odd, or even
o Stop Bit : 1 or 2
o Baud Rate : 300 to 19,200
o RTS Send Delay: 0 to 2500 ms
o RTS Off Delay : 0 to 2500 ms
o Pre-Send Delay : 0 to 2500 ms
o Inter-character : 0 to 2500 ms
Functional Specifications
The RTU-5/03 incorporates the Allen-Bradley SLC-5/03
technology. As such, it has all the standard features of
the SLC 5/03, including:
• DF1 programming support (uses standard ladder
logic tools for programming on Channel 0)
• Auto switch between DF1 and Modbus on Channel 0
• DH-485 network access and programming on
Channel 1
• Up to 1024 inputs plus 1024 outputs
• 16K (3250-L532M) word memory configurations
• Floating-point math support
• On-line programming
• Run-time editing
• Built-in key switch
• Built-in real-time clock and calendar
