Corning’ s proprietary fusion process is uniquely
suited to creating thin glass of pristine surface quality
• We are far from the theoretical
limits of how thin the glass can go
– Supporting known and potential
display applications

• Fusion offers potential to produce

thin glass at larger gen sizes
while maintaining precise glass
attributes

Positive impact of EAGLE XG® glass substrates
If all LCDs between 2009 and 2012 were made with EAGLE XG glass
substrates instead of conventional LCD glass, display makers would avoid
using 19,000 metric tons of heavy metals.

EAGLE XG® Slim substrates help reduce CO2
emissions in glass manufacturing and transportation
Assuming a 2011 glass market size of about
3.5 billion square feet:

Moving from 0.7 mm to 0.5 mm input Moving from 0.7 mm to 0.5 mm

glass reduces the amount of CO2 by eliminates
1,500,000 kg 30%
of the CO2 produced in the total
(equivalent to a small power plant) transportation of glass

Moving from 0.5 mm to 0.3 mm For the LCD TV market in North

input glass reduces America this would represent about a
1,000,000 kg 6,000,000 kg
of CO2 CO2 annual savings

EAGLE XG® Slim substrates offer superior attributes
that help meet industry needs

EAGLE XG Slim substrates:

•Offer superior resistance to surface damage
compared to thicker glass substrates and other
compositions
– Inherent to the composition of the glass

•Help reduce UV exposure time, which leads to

UV lamp life time extension and cost reduction
– Thinner glass has higher UV transmission

• Help reduce visible mura and edge-light mura

– Improves the viewer experience
