CATWALK CONSTRUCTION
1.1 SECTION INCLUDES
This specification specifies that the catwalk shall be constructed in compliance with the
design drawings and listed standards. Material supply, the equipments, labor and
transportation and all the other necessary services shall be provided by the contractor.
1.2 REFERENCES
The installations related to the metal units shall comply with the terms of “05 12 00 Steel
Works Technical Specification”.
The installations related to the plasterboard works shall comply with the terms of “09 21
16 Plasterboard Technical Specification”.
TS 822 Galvanized Plain and Corrugated Steel Sheets (Hot-Dip Galvanized)
TS 882 Steels-Micrographic determination of the ferritic or austenitic grain size
TS 11798/T Expanded steel sheets For General Purposes
1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Certificates: The contractor shall submit the certificates of the materials to be

obtained from the manufacturer for approval.
B. Samples: The contractor shall submit the samples of the materials to be used
for approval.
C. Shop Drawings: The contractor shall submit the drawings prepared based on
the application projects for approval. These drawings shall illustrate the
location, application detail and equipments of the installation. The installation
shall not commence unless these drawings are approved.
D. Application Method: The contractor shall submit the application method
regarding the works described in this section.
E. Static calculations: Performing static calculations related to the catwalk load-
bearing system is a must. For the purpose of pricing, the approximate sizes
of the equipment like relevant bearing posts, anchorage etc. are defined in
the project. The final installation sizes determined via necessary static
calculations must be approved by the employer / employer’s representative.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The installation shall comply with the technical specifications and drawings.

B. Materials which do not comply with the standards shall not be used. Materials
which are deemed to be inappropriate by the employer or employer’s
representative shall be replaced.
1.5 GUARANTEE
A. Project Guarantee: This point is referred to the contractor agreement.

 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE and TRANSPORTATION

A. The packing shall be strong enough to eliminate damages like scratches/

wear on the surface of the material.
B. The materials shall be stored on site and be protected sufficiently against any
damage. The stacks shall be placed properly, avoiding bending or curving.
C. The materials shall be kept in a clean and dry environment, away from un-
swept concrete and wall materials. All protection provided during
transportation shall be maintained until the installation
1.7 MEASURING
A. The measuring shall be made with reference to the project and in m².
B. All steel construction works and anchorage units are included in the unit
price.
SECTION 2 MATERIALS
1.1 Fire-resistant plasterboards of 15 mm thickness (Double layer)
Physical qualities
Weight : 15 kg/m

Thickness : 15 mm

Fire insulation : 0,24 W/mK

Fire resistance : F30

1.2 Checkered Plate Flooring
Thickness: 4 mm
Size: 1000 x2000 mm
Weight: 27,5 kg/m²
It shall be galvanized with hot-dip method. Size tolerances shall comply with DIN
59220, ASTM-A 786 and BS-EN 10051.
1.3 Expanded Steel Sheet
Thickness: 1,5 mm
Size: 500 x3700 mm
Weight: 2,4 kg/m²
Sheet Hole Center Size: 25x8 mm
It shall be galvanized with hot-dip method. Size tolerances shall comply with, DIN
791 standard.
SECTION 3 APPLICATION
3.1 GENERAL
A. Along with the catwalk load-bearer construction, fire resistant plaster boards,
checkered steel sheet cladding and the load-bearing constructions needed

 for the expanded steel sheet shall be made by the contractor.
B. In all steel installations, corrosion resistant painting is included.
C. In order to avoid spreading, the second layer plaster boards shall be installed
in staggered position. The overlap of the joints shall be avoided.
D. All the connection and jointings of the boards shall be filled with Fireboard
joint plaster by using glass fiber netting.
E. In all installment connections sleeves of needed dimensions shall be laid.
The spaces shall be filled with inflammable filling material.
F. In the installation of checkered sheet and expanded steel sheet, the welding
points shall be sanded and coated with galvanize repair paint.
3.2 PROTECTION and CLEAN-UP
A. Prior to the delivery of the installations, the contractor shall have all the
necessary tests conducted under the supervision of the employer or
employer’s representative.
