CAREER OBJECTIVE
I have an interest in innovation especially in the field of health care, biotec
hnology, biomedical research, clinical diagnostics, pharmacotherapeutics and dru
g development or traditional manufacturing with opportunity to work with people
as well. I look forward to bring to an organization enthusiasm, dedication, resp
onsibility and good work ethics.

California State University Channel Islands
Bachelor of Science Biomedical Sciences (2002-2006)
Maseno University

PROFILE
I am biotechnologist with conceptual thinking, a strong background in molecular
biology, biological sciences, biomedical sciences, biotechnology and its applica
tions. Result oriented individual with hand on experience with various biotechno
logical and biomolecular techniques and scientific research skills.
SKILLS
* I possess molecular biology skills in bacterial gene cloning, DNA isolation, r
ecombinant protein purification and characterization, RNA silencing and interfer
ence, primer design, RT-PCR, gene sequencing, cloning and transformation, target
detection, Western blot and Northern blot.
* I have experience working with different mammalian cell cultures, CHO, JURKAT,
human neuronal stem cells proliferation and differentiation. I also have a good
experience with immunofluorescence techniques such Fluorescence In situ Hybridi
zation (FISH) and Chromogenic in situ hybridization (CISH) as applied to gene ex
pression, cytogenetic and molecular pathology diagnostics.
* Biomedical research skills in scientific project design, disease management an
d control, scientific research data collection and general laboratory management
and safety skills.
* I have skills in protein crystallography and building of protein electron dens
ity maps (WINCOOT)
* I am also skilled in DNA and Protein Data banks (NCBI) information retrieval a
nd use.
* I possess strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership and communication s
kills and I am capable of solving multifaceted problems.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant
Alzheimer's Institute - California State University Channel Islands (Januar
y 2009 March 2009)
* As result of growing interest regenerative medicine, I participated as researc
h assistant to CSUCI-Alzheimer's Institute research team researching on the effe
cts of small molecules antioxidants and drugs on human neural stem cells prolife
ration and differentiation with objective of elucidating ways to drug discovery
or improving delivery of anti oxidants to neural stem cells. During this time I,
cultured cells for differentiation and proliferations prepared culture media, f
ed stem cells, and monitored growth and proliferations. I also had chance to eva
luate the effect of small molecules on neural stem cells.
Facilitator
Regional Center for HIV/IDS & Social Education- Kisumu (October 2007-August
2008)
* Working on behalf of non governmental organization in Kenya, with focus on bro
ad categories of HIV/AIDs, health, exploitation, abuse, civil society, HIV /AIDs
and livelihood, and also involved in training communities on values and ethics:
- I instructed and organized lectures on HIV/Aids creating community awareness a
nd sensitization.
- I worked closely with the both the affected people and infected people to unde
rstand HIV/AIDS and to stem out stigmatization.
- I trained community and provided in service in HIV related workshops. Administ
rative duties included planning and organizing awareness workshops.
Research assistant (Post Graduate intern)
Kenya Medical Research Institute-Kisumu (March 2007- July 2007)
* I was granted research internship at Kenya Medical Research Institute. A resea
rch institution with commitment on meeting health challenges with consolidated r
esearch on infectious diseases, parasitic diseases, epidemiology, public and hea
lth system research, biotechnology and non-communicable diseases. I Participated
in some large of the large multi disciplinary research studies by the Center li
ke community based trial on the impact insecticide treated bed nets (ITNs) on ch
ildhood morbidity and mortality in an area of intense and perennial malaria tran
smission, I helped in gathering detailed data on morbidity through a means of pr
ospective follow up on school children understudy from different schools in a vi
llage in Western Kenya.
* I was also able to participate in research study involving interaction of HIV/
AIDs and malaria in pregnant women and the immuno-epidemiology of malaria in wes
tern Kenya. And I had chance to participate in various talks involving HIV and T
uberculosis. I assisted in maintaining data entry and transcription of laborator
y protocols, provided assistance in cleaning of laboratory equipment and carried
out general laboratory and maintenance and cleaning process.
Research Assistant International Child Support (ICS) (Aug 2007 - Sep
2007)
* Acting on behalf of non governmental organization (ICS) I assisted in carrying
out research on rights of children to education and access to health in a remot
e district in Kenya. I conducted interviews on this subject and wrote a report o
n the findings.

Undergraduate intern
Kenya Medical Research Institute- (Jan2006 -May 2006)
* I was attached at Kenya Medical research institute, Center for Vector Biology
and Control Research and Center for Diseases Control (CDC) laboratories Kisian (
Kenya). I assisted senior research scientists on various research labs with labo
ratory preparation, field data collection and filling, I participated in weekly
ecological management of malaria vector research sites and I was responsible for
daily routine laboratory management while I was attached to center laboratories
such clinical, parasitology, schistosomiasis and immunology.

NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Summer 2009
* Convinced with the fact that regenerative medicine, has the potential to produ
cing extended healthy longevity, my team project work in my MS biotechnology pro
gram, "Peptide aptamers applications, combinatorial screening in biological syst
ems and cellular delivery approaches" Advisors Dr Karol Pessin and Dr Jim Hurber
. I looked at a possible application of aptamers (nucleic acid molecules with th
e potential to replace antibodies as target validations and are much cheaper to
produce) in identification of specific stem cells at differentiation and probabl
y help hasten treatment of heart related diseases with also possible application
to regenerative medicine in general.
* I participated in workshops organized by Kenya Red Cross and I was awarded ce
rtificate in first aid and disaster management (2004)
* I advocated for and attended workshops on gender mainstreaming in realization
of gender equality and was awarded certificate in gender mainstreaming Maseno -
University(2005)
