1. PAKISTAN HORTICULTURE DEVELOPMENT AND EXPORT COMPANY (PHDEC)

I got opportunities to work in Supply Chain and Business Development Departments and
gained diversified experience related to horticulture sector and delivered following job
responsibilities effectively and efficiently for two departments of PHDEC.

Assistant Manager Business Development (October, 2009 - to date)

A. Performing following responsibilities in Business Development Department for


PHDEC.

 To prepare business/project proposals, PC-1, TORs, concept papers, feasibilities


studies for various horticulture investment potential products/areas;
 To provide technical and professional input in the preparation and implementation
of projects & future plans with respect to develop horticulture industry and to
enhance exports;
 To identify different projects related to horticulture sector includes fresh, value
added products;
 To attract investors for investment in identified horticulture sector and trade policy
projects;

Achievements

During work in Business development department achieved following targets:

 Developed following feasibilities, PC-1 and concept papers:


 Worked on PC-1 of Cool Chain System under National Trade Corridor Project;
 Developed feasibility on mango & Kninnow processing facilities.
 Developed feasibility study on dates processing plant for different locations of
Pakistan includes D.I. Khan, Turabt and Khairpur.
 Tunnel vegetables production of cucumber, tomato, bitter gourd, melons,
peppers etc.
 PC-1 of floriculture Development cum Common facility Center-Pattoki, Lahore;
 Worked with Punjab Board of Investment & Trade (PBIT) to create awareness about
potential for investment in agriculture/horticulture sector among business community
of Pakistan and participated as presenter/resource person to expose investment
potential in agriculture/horticulture in eight chamber of commerce and Industries of
Punjab;
 Developed floriculture association/cooperative in Pattoki-Lahore through mutual
coordination of floriculture stakeholders.

B. Worked as an Assistant Manager Technical/Supply Chain and performed


following responsibilities in Supply Chain/Technical Department for PHDEC
(April,2007-Sep.2009):

 Developed best practice supply chains of Horti-products (fruit, floriculture, vegetables

& herbs) and create linkage among exporters and growers;
 Coordination & facilitation of exporters for export marketing and promotion of Horti-
products to participate international Horti-Trade Shows;
 Coordination with field offices for receiving monthly, quarterly and annual reports as
per annual programme;
 Communicated effectively with the concerned departments, agencies, etc. as per
guidelines of PHDEC;
 Created awareness and arranged training workshops on international compliance;
HACCP, ISO: 22000:2005, Global GAP, WTO, SPS, and BRC for exporters,
growers, processors and Govt. organizations;
 Developed technical material as per guidelines of PHDEC;
 Facilitated visitors at head office and provide information regarding horticulture
sector.

Achievements

During work in Supply Chain/Technical Department accomplished following tasks:

 Worked with core groups of different Horti-Products which comprised of academia,


research institutions, Govt. Agriculture departments, growers, intermediaries and
Exporters and other facilitators. Monthly meetings were conducted in the production
areas of the Punjab to solve issues to streamline the supply chain of focused
products. The objectives of the core group are to accelerate the export by adopting
best practices according to global markets requirements and to create coordination
among horti-stakeholders. These core groups are:

 Mango core groups (Multan & Rahim yar Khan)


 Floriculture Core group/Association (Pattoki/Lahore)
 Potato core group/Potato Okara Society (Okara)

 Developed TORs to out source the studies and project for execution.
 Executed a project of Ministry of Food, Agriculture (MINFA) “Production of
Medicinal Herbs in Collaboration with Private Sector (PMHPS)” in Pakistan and
accomplished following objectives of the project:

 Mapping/Clustering of medicinal plants in term of product range and


geographical dispersion and introduction of GACP and organic protocols to
stakeholders;
 Improve collection, field handling and post harvest practices and introduction of
HACCP protocols and certifications of processing industries to ensure produce
quality and safety;
 Build capacity of the stakeholders especially producers and traders through
training, technical assistance. Improve access to improved technology
adopting FFS;
 Identification of potential markets including import markets, conduct market
promotion and enlarge share in the export market;
 Promotional campaign of value added including processed products.
 Worked with Punjab-WTO Cell to conduct TOT training workshop on Global GAP,
SPS for mango, citrus, vegetables and floriculture and performed the responsibilities
of facilitator to organized the workshop;
 Worked with Australia Pakistan Sector Linkages Programme (ASLP) “Mango Supply
Chain Management” to improve the quality from harvest to ultimate consumers and
performed the responsibilities of facilitator and coordinator to accomplish the
activities of the project.
 Worked with Cabi South Asia on “Kinnow Value Chain” to identify Knowledge gaps

and ICT prevalence in the chain and conducted a survey and collected desired
information from the players of kinnow industry of Pakistan.
