The term µsmart textiles¶ is derived from µintelligent¶ or µsmart materials¶. The concept
µSmart Material¶ was for the first time defined in Japan in 1989. The first textile material that, in
retroaction, was labeled as a µsmart textile¶ was silk thread having a shape memory. Smart
textiles, that is able to sense stimuli from the environment, to react to them and adapt to them by
integration of functionalities in the textile structure. The stimulus as well as the response can
have an electrical, thermal, chemical, magnetic or other origin. Smart textile products meet all
criteria of high-added value technology allowing a transformation to a competitive high-tech
industry. Nanotechnology is increasingly being used in the field of textiles, to produce fabrics
with superior properties as well as textiles and apparel that are smart & intelligent. Hence with
this fact, smart nano textiles will be incorporated on ladies clothing or baby clothing.
