9-Level Inverter for Induction Motor Control

Abstract:

This project presents speed controlling for single phase induction motor. Principally,
9-level, diode-clamp inverter used to control voltages per frequency is widely used because
of its high efficiency to control the motor. In this project an eight pulse signal driver is used
for gate signal and send to the output voltage, amplifier by co-connecting to the modulation
module Operational Amplifier. The obtained output signals are combined to generate 15-
volt output for driving each gate. The 9-level, diode-clamp is employed to control single-
phase induction motor.

Introduction:

Recently, single-phase induction motor is widely used in buildings and industries

because of its compact size, endurance and cheap price. However, industrial sector requires
improving its efficiency by employing various controls to improve the efficiency and to save
energy. In this article, the concept of a 9-level diode-clamp and modulate principle are
implemented to control the output waveform approaching to the sine-wave as close as
possible. Therefore, controlling approach of voltage and frequency supplied to stator coil in
order to control the motor speed efficiently according to actual operations is employed.

Existing Scheme:

There are numerous control schemes are followed for controlling of induction
motor. Such are,

a. Dynamic Feedback Linearizing Control

b. Direct Field-oriented Control

c. Feed forward Control

d. Speed-sensor less Feedback Control

Disadvantages

1. The stability of the origin of the error system critically depends on the load torque
2. Rotor flux measurement has a distinctive drawback, so field control becomes Higher
Complexity
3. THD value is Higher

Proposed Scheme

Induction Motor Controller Main Unit

Advantages:

1. High Efficiency
2. Smooth Operation during from no load to full load
3. Fast steady state Response
