We are happy to introduce Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT University,


www.vit.ac.in) to you; a cosmopolitan Institute with an in-house strength of
over 17000 students together representing every state of India and 42

since its inception. We, at VIT, realize that education does not occur only in
the classroom, but goes beyond. To facilitate this, VIT conducts an annual
sports and cultural fest called Riviera to give students not only of our college,
but of other engineering colleges as well, a chance to show their talents and
abilities.

It is with immense pleasure, that we invite you to RIVIERA 2011 to be held


between 30th January and 2th February 2011 at our campus. For this
International Meet, we expect over 6000 students from over 250 colleges
across the globe to participate in addition to our own students who are
17,000 in number. In Riviera’10, we had Musical Nights by the popular
Bollywood Singer Shaan, famous South Indian Music Director Devi Sri Prasad,
Rock Concert by Mother Jane- Asia’s No.1 Rock Act and a concert by
Anushka Manchanda in addition to International performance by Fire Fly’s
from Singapore. Stars like V.V.S.Laxman for inaugural and Padmashree Dr.
Kamal Hassan for the valedictory graced the fest by their presence. The
guest of honors included actors like Allu Arjun, Surya, Sneha, Namitha. Last
year, we witnessed over 20,000 footfalls.

This year we promise to be bigger and better both in quality and magnitude.

EVENTS
These are the list of events and the categories which were hosted during
RIVIERA 2010.

General Dramatics:
Each team puts up a stage play for duration of 45 minutes. A combination of
drama, humour and romance to fill the evening .Watch as a team takes over
the stage, leaving you exhilarated and yearning for more.

Music:
There are further three sub categories in the music section:
Head Bangers Ball:
One of the most anticipated events of our cultural extravaganza where
more than a hundred bands show enthral the audience and the band that
entertains the audience the most walks out with the top honours.
Acoustic Vibes:
After all the head banging at the battle of the bands event here is an
evening to relax and listen to your favourite bands play 'unplugged'.
Raaga Reggae:
The Indian music competition at Riviera is an eagerly awaited event by music
lovers and musicians alike. Performances in all regional languages are
welcome.

Dance:
There are two different categories in which competition is held: - Indian and
Western.
1) Friskfactor
2) Adaptune

Debate:
1) Block and Tackle
It pushes your mind to the limit and it brings out the politician in you. This
event makes you believe every coin has two sides.
2) Cross talk
It is a kind of a debate in which your debatorial skills are put to test in a much
enjoyable and competitive manner. Each team is a given a time of 15mins in
which the main speaker speaks for 3 mins. and secondary speaker refutes the
opponent speaker for 2 mins.
Style Check:
Style check is a fashion event where the contestants are not only supposed
to flaunt their attitude but also exhibit it fashion in the most stylish and
exclusive manner.

Workshops:

There were a number of workshops such as TANGO Dance workshop and


Drama workshop.

Sports in Riviera 2010

A wide number of sports events were conducted. The sports included


volleyball, basketball, football, tennis, badminton, swimming, snooker, throw-
ball, chess, table tennis and cricket.
