M900/M1800 Base Transceiver Station (BTS22C) 1 Introduction
1 Introduction
I. Function
A user must first log in site maintenance terminal system before being authorized to
perform any maintenance operations over the console.
II. Login
Click on the fifth button on the toolbar, or choose [User Management/User Login]
menu to pop up a "User Login" window. Enter user name and password, then click

M900/M1800 Base Transceiver Station (BTS22C) 1 Introduction
After the user is successfully logged in, the above-mentioned window would be
automatically closed and the user can proceed to perform desired operations. If the
login fails, the reason would be displayed in the window.
As shown in Figure 1-2, the interface of site maintenance terminal system is divided
into the following parts: menu, toolbar, BTS logic object, object function, alarm window,
status bar and etc. All the menu commands in the menu are easy to understand and
the buttons on the toolbar are shortcuts for these commands. Move the cursor on a
button to display its functions.

BTS logic objects and their functions will be described later. This part focuses on alarm
functions.
As shown in Figure 1-3, the part in light blue on the interface of site maintenance
terminal system is BTS alarm display part, that means, when an alarm occurs to BS, it
would be displayed in this part of the interface. Double click any alarm message in, it
would display an "Alarm Detailed Explanation" window for this alarm, as shown in
Figure 1-5. Right click a certain alarm message would pop up a menu as shown in
Figure 1-4. Choose commands on the menu, and the functions of message setting,
saving, clearing and scrolling can be performed over the message in the alarm
window.

2 Installation
Both ends of a BTS terminal operations & maintenance cable are DB9 connectors.
One end is connected to the terminal O&M interface on the MOP board at the side of
BS, and the other is connected to a serial port of an operation terminal (usually, a
laptop computer). The pin-to-pin correspondence between the two DB9 connectors at
the two ends of the cable is described in Table 2-1.

If MMI fails to connect to BS, a failure dialogue box would pop up. Click <OK> button
in this box to open a dialogue box as shown in Figure 2-2 and set the communication
port parameters in it. Select a communication port as COM1, COM2 or COM3
according to which port is actually connected to the cable, and select "38400" as the
communication rate, then click <OK> button.
If MMI still cannot get connected to BTS after all these settings, check whether the
hardware connection of maintenance cables and the serial port hardware of the
operation terminal is normal.
After MMI gets connected to BS, choose [User Management/User Login] menu to
open a dialogue box as shown in Figure 2-3. Enter "User Name" and "User Password",
then click <OK> button. If the entered "User Name" and "User Password" are both
correct, this dialogue box would disappear, which indicates that the user successfully
logs in. Otherwise, a "Wrong Username or Password" prompt would be displayed.

3 "SITE" Functions
As shown in Figure 2-1 BTS O&M Man-Machine Interface, left click [Site0] in the tree
structure, and all the function commands corresponding to [Site0] would be displayed
in the right part of this site window. Detailed description of the function commands
under [Site0], including operation procedures as well as the explanation of function
commands, is given in the following.
I. Operation procedure
II. Description
This function command is used for MMI to obtain or release site administrationship.
Once MMI obtains site administrationship, it can take the place of BSC to perform such
operation and maintenance functions over BTS as various configurations, attribute
settings, operations on boards, and etc. In this sense, MMI plays the role of
background maintenance. Normally, all O&M commands can be executed by this MMI.
When MMI releases site administrationship, the O&M commands related to
modification can no longer be executed, while the O&M commands related to reading
can still be executed as usual.
I. Operation procedure
Double click [Site0/Opstart Site] as shown in Figure 2-1. Then, click <OK> button in
the popped-up dialogue box, and a "Site Successfully Opstart" prompt would be
displayed normally.
II. Description

This command is used for the MMI to instruct the BTS to report in real time the CPU
usage rates concerning the MMU and MFU boards as well as the temperatures of the
MMU and MTR boards, so that the maintenance staff can be at any time informed of
the CPU loads and internal temperatures and take necessary measures thereby in an
event of an over-high CPU usage rate or temperature.
I. Operation procedure
Double click [Site0/Force load SW] as shown in Figure 2-1 to open a dialogue box as

circumstances), "Version", "File ID", and etc.. Then click <Begin>. Normally a SW
download progress (0~100%) will be displayed and a "SW successfully downloaded"
prompt would be shown after several minutes.
II. Description
BTS software upgrade can be performed in two steps: "Force load SW" and "SW
activation". "Force load SW" is to load the upgraded software onto MMU board.
Generally speaking, files to be downloaded onto various boards are: mmuxxxx.hex
(MMU board download SW), mfuxxxx.omu (MFU board download SW) and
mcidown.bin (MTR board download SW). In these file names, "xxxx" stands for
version number.
