London's Cancer Research and Oncology Society!

Three extremely distinguished oncologists in 3 different aspect of oncology


(medical, clinical and surgical) will talk and describe to you both their clinical
and research experiences and what it means to them to be in oncology.

This event is FREE for all, refreshments will be provided and you will have the
opportunity to ask any questions that may be on your mind! Come along to
find out more about our society and the fantastic things we have lined up for
the year including a national cancer research conference! See you all there!

Speakers:

Dr. James Spicer (medical oncologist)...


is a senior lecturer at the cancer studies division at King's College London and
a honary consultant in medical oncology at Guy's and St. Thomas'. Dr. Spicer
leads the cancer early phase trials unit at Guy's Hospital and his research
pertains to developing novel approaches to antibody-based immunotherapy for
solid tumors. He has also established a phase 1 programme in solid tumor
oncology at Guy's Hospital and is a recognized expert on thoracic medical
oncology. He is a 2004 recipient of the UK Association of Cancer Physicians
McElwain Prize.

Dr. Simon Hughes (clinical oncologist)...


is a consultant oncologist at Guy's and St. Thomas' and is a core member of
the weekly Blackheath Hospital Multidisciplinary Team Meeting for Oncology.
His clinical interests pertain to urological cancers and palliative radiotherapy.
His research into radiotherapy and systemic therapy includes work in image-
guided radiotherapy, radiotherapy dose painting, chemoradiotherapeutic
bladder preservation and stereotactic radiotherapy for lung cancer. In addition
he is also a member of the IDEAL-CRT Trial Management Group and a co-
investigator for the SCRATCH study that assesses novel concomitant
therapies for lung cancer radiotherapy.

Mr Michael Douek (surgical oncologist)...


is a surgical oncologist at Guy's and St. Thomas' hospitals. His specialist areas
include breast surgery, breast cancer, colorectal cancer and melanoma. He has
been awarded a prestigious Health Foundation Clinician Scientist grant by the
UK Academy of Medical Sciences, fully funding his joint academic and clinical
post in breast and general surgery. He has over 7 years experience in breast
cancer and general surgery. He also regularly provides second opinions and
has experience in medico-legal work.
