-Skin color is the core reason for racism still today. Humans in general are leaned to judge people by
their appearance instead of personal interaction or background.

-It͛s the first thing that is seen.

-It͛s our identifier of our heritage and race and even more than that for some of us.

I believe to some extent, slavery has left predominant psychological change in viewing people of
darker complexion differently even among African Americans today. When we go back to the history of
African Americans, the superior power has always been associated with the light skinned color. The
brighter your skin color, the more preferred you are in the society. Skin color continues to dominate
attitudes, behaviors

-Limitation of improvements in the society.

-It puts a mental fence to how far one must go because there is already instilled mentality on ͞no
matter how hard I try, how successful I want to be, I will not be as smart or intelligent as whites or I will
not have the same opportunity as whites͟.
-It also creates uncertainty in one͛s true capability and challenges on how extra hard one has to work to
be considered special.

-Not only Black folks, but also whites are faced with uncertainties when hiring Black job applicants as
how efficiently they can handle a job in research facilities or jobs that require high intelligence.

The issue of skin color is relevant to most cultures around the world. An analysis of domination over
groups of people, through mechanisms such as colonialism and slavery, can help us to readily
understand that power has been associated with light skin color. In postcolonial times, the skin color
hierarchy on a societal level continues to dominate attitudes, behavior, and policies on a global scale so
that a tenacious worldview of skin color has been internalized by generations of White people and
people of color (Hall, 2003).
