Is it necessary to get the permission of the first wife before marrying again?

How Islam justifies the multiple marriages of our Holy Prophet?

Yes it is as necessary to get the permission of the first wife as to get the permission from
the council or legislative body made by the State. Council or legislative body will
announce to grant the permission to the man who can afford two or three or four families
at a time and this can be granted under special conditions when women outnumber the
men and widows and orphans are left destitute in the state where they required a support.
Second marriage is not an article of faith or a matter of necessity. This permission is an
exemption to the ordinary course. It is the last resort, the final attempt to solve problems,
and to deal with inevitable difficulties. In short, it is an emergency measure, and it should
be confine to that sense.

This is a long debate any way I will try to be brief. The Prophet came to world as an ideal
for mankind and so he was in all respect of his life. From his fifty-sixth year up to the
sixtieth year of his life, the Prophet contracted nine marriages in quick succession. In the
last three years of his life he contracted no marriages at all. Most of his marriages were
contracted in a period of about five years, when he was passing the most difficult and
trying stage in his mission. A time when Muslims were engaged in decisive battles and
entangled in an endless circle of trouble from within as well as from without.
It was the time when Islamic legislation was being formulated and the foundations of
Islamic society were being laid down. The wives he took were all widows or divorced
except Hazrat Ayesha who also had a broken engagement. Some were older than he was
and practically all of them sought his hand and shelter.
The prophet contacted some his marriages for sociopolitical reasons. His principal
concern was the future of Islam and the strengthening of Muslims by all bonds. It was his
marriage to Hazrat Juwairiah that he gained the support for Islam of the whole clan of
Bani Al-Mustaliq and their allied tribes. It was through marriage to Safiyah that he
neutralized a great section of hostile Jews of Arabia.
