Surface preparation, moisture testing and environmental condition

New concrete shall be cured for a minimum of 28 days prior to coating.


Shorter cure times shall only be allowed if the concrete passes either
ASTM D4263 Concrete Moisture Content by the Plastic Sheet Method or
SAES-H-003
by the Elcometer conductivity test.

Atmospheric relative humidity shall be less than 85% during surface SAES-H-003

Surfaces shall be tested for dryness after rain, water blasting, or heavy SAES-H-003

Wind conditions shall be such as to allow complete clean up of dust and SAES-H-003

Remove all loose concrete, sealants, and old coatings by abrasive

B Primer/sealer application inspection

Cracks less than 10 mm wide and holes not exceeding 10 mm in

applying primer/sealer to the surface.
Expansion/construction joints, when removed, shall be cleaned out and

off; Remove masking and replace sealants as required.
Voids (including holes with diameters exceeding 10 mm) shall be SAES-H-003

prepared and primed using an epoxy prior to being filled. Sec. 5.6

Surfaces subject to immersion conditions shall have internal corners SAES-H-003

rounded with a 25mm fillet using epoxy grout. Sec. 5.7
Primer/Sealer shall be applied in a thin coat; filling and coating shall be SAES-H-003
B5 done after sealing; Application of primer/sealer shall be by spray except Sec. 5.10, 5.10.1,
for touch-up (areas < 0.1 m²). & 5.10.2
