Jewish Resources Jewish Study Bible
Now, readers of the Bible who are interested in studying Jewish traditions have a one-volume
resource specifically tailored to their needs. The Jewish Study Bible presents the center of
gravity of the Scriptures where Jews experience it—in Torah. It offers readers the fruits of
various schools of Jewish traditions of biblical exegesis (rabbinic, medieval, mystical, etc.)
and provides them with a wealth of ancillary materials that aid in bringing the ancient text
to life. The nearly forty contributors to the work represent the cream of Jewish biblical
scholarship from the world over. No knowledge of Hebrew is required for one to make use
of this unique volume.
The JSB uses The Jewish Publication Society TANAKH Translation, whose name is an
acronym formed from the Hebrew initials of the three sections into which the Hebrew Bible
is traditionally divided (Torah, Instruction; Nevi’im, Prophets; and Kethubim, Writings). A
committee of esteemed biblical scholars and rabbis from the Orthodox, Conservative, and
Reform Judaism movements produced this modern translation, which dates from 1985.
Anyone interested in acquiring a fuller understanding of the riches of the Bible will profit
from reading The Jewish Study Bible.

Reference Oxford Bible Atlas
Fourth Edition
This new edition of the Oxford Bible Atlas, with 27 maps and 81 full-color illustrations, has
been thoroughly revised to bring it up to date with regard both to biblical scholarship and to
archaeology and topography. The Atlas will help readers of the Bible understand the contexts
in which its stories are set and to appreciate the world from which it emerged and which
formed its background. Maps show the geographical setting of the Bible’s stories and reflect the
successive stages of the Bible’s accounts, while specially chosen full-color illustrations bring the
countries and their peoples to life. The accompanying text describes the land of Palestine, and
its wider ancient Near Eastern and east Mediterranean settings. It outlines clearly the successive
historical periods, and describes the major civilizations with which Israelites, Jews, and early
Christians came into contact. There is also an illustrated survey of the relevance of archaeology
for the study of the Bible. The Oxford Bible Atlas provides a superb guide to the geography
of the Holy Land throughout biblical history, from the Exodus period through to New
Testament times.

New English Translation of the Septuagint Reference
The Septuagint (the ancient Greek translation of Jewish sacred writings) is of great
importance in the history of both Judaism and Christianity. The first translation of the
books of the Hebrew Bible (plus additions) into the common language of the ancient
Mediterranean world made the Jewish scriptures accessible to many outside Judaism. Not
only did the Septuagint become Holy Writ to Greek speaking Jews but it was also the Bible
of the early Christian communities: the scripture they cited and the textual foundation of
the early Christian movement.
Translated from Hebrew (and Aramaic) originals in the two centuries before Jesus, the
Septuagint provides important information about the history of the text of the Bible. For
centuries, scholars have looked to the Septuagint for information about the nature of the
text and of how passages and specific words were understood.
For students of the Bible, the New Testament in particular, the study of the Septuagint’s
influence is a vital part of the history of interpretation. But until now, the Septuagint has
not been available to English readers in a modern and accurate translation. A New English
Translation of the Septuagint fills this gap.
Comparative Psalter
The Book of Psalms has occupied a central place in Jewish and Christian worship for
millennia. This authoritative volume brings together the Psalms in a quartet of versions that
is certain to be an invaluable resource for students of this core book of the Bible. The texts
featured in A Comparative Psalter represent a progression of the text through time. The
ancient Masoretic Hebrew and Revised Standard Version Bible are displayed on one page,
while the New English Translation of the Septuagint and Greek Septuagint are on the facing
page. The same set of verses is displayed for all four texts, making it easy to compare. The
Modern English versions included in this volume are noteworthy for their fidelity to the
ancient texts. The first major translation of the Christian Scriptures from the original
languages to be undertaken since the King James Version, the RSV debuted in 1952 to
critical acclaim. It dramatically shaped the course of English Bible translation work in
the latter half of the twentieth century, and remains the Bible of choice for many people.
Meanwhile, the New English Translation of the Septuagint is the first work of its kind in a
century and a half. This major project brings to the fore a wealth of textual discoveries that
help illuminate the Book of Psalms for twenty-first century readers.
