1.1. Plot the load line and find the Q-point for the diode circuit in the Fig. 1.1 below if
V = 5V and R = 10 kΩ. Use the i-v chracteristic presented in the lecture slides.

1.3. Find the Q-point for the circuit in Fig. 3.22 using the same four methods as in the

Table in the lecture.
1.4. (a) Find I and V in the four circuits in the Fig below using the ideal diode model. (b)
Repeat using the constant voltage drop model with Von = 0.7 V.

1.13. A 5-V, 25-A dc power supply is to be designed with a ripple of less than 2.5
percent. Assume that a half-wave rectifier circuit (60Hz) with a capacitor filter is
used. (a) What is the size of the filter capacitor C? (b) What is PIV rating for the
diode ? (c) What is the rms value of the transformer voltage needed for the rectifier?
(d) What is value of the peak repetitive diode current in the diode? (e) What is surge
current at t = 0+ ?

1.14. The full-wave rectifier in Fig. 1.10 is operating at the frequency of 60 Hz, and te
rms value of the transformert output voltage is 6.3 V. (a) What is value of the dc
output voltage if the diode voltage drop is 1 V? (b) What is the minimum value of C
required to maintain the ripple voltage to less than 0.25 V if R = 0.5 Ω? (c) What is
PIV rating of the diode in this circuit ? (d) What is surge current when power is first
supplied ? (e) What is the amplitude of the repetitive current in the diode?

1.16. Design a boost converter operating at a frequency of 45 kHz to generate +15 V


from a +5 V supply. The converter will have an output current of 0.5 A and a ripple
voltage of less than 0.1 V. Assume that the ripple current is 10 percent of the dc
inductor current.

1.17. Design a buck converter operating at a frequency of 30 kHz to generate + 15 V


from a +50-V supply. The converter will have an output current of 0.5 A and a ripple
voltage of less than 0.1 V. Assume that the ripple current is 10 percent of the dc
inductor current.

1.18. The circuit inside the box in Fig 1.12 contains only resistors and diodes. The
terminal V0 is connected to some point in the circuit inside the box. (a) Is largest
possible value of V0 most nearly 0 V, -6 V, +6 V, or +15V > Why ? (b) Is the
smallest possible value of V0 most nearly 0 V, -9 V, +6 V, or +15 V ? Why ?
