TCS Test Pattern

It was an online exam…. Test Consists of 3 Sections… + Psychometric Test

1. Test on Synonyms and Antonyms (40 questions, 20 minutes: Also Q’s on

Sentence Completion).
2. Aptitude Test (32 questions, 40 minutes: General Questions on Mathematics).
3. Critical Reasoning (30 Minutes: 3 Analysis Paragraphs and 12 questions Relating
them).
4. Psychometric Test (150 Questions, 30 minutes: only if you Qualify in the above
tests).

Details about How to Prepare for the above tests:

1. Verbal Ability:
This Test contains Synonyms & Antonyms…Almost all of them were From GRE
BARRON’S 12th Edition & upward…30-50% of them will be repeated from previous
TCS papers. Few Questions on Sentence Completion were also there..for these also refer
BARRON’S.
NOTE: During the Exam..you should be careful..because on the computer screen the
names Synonyms & Antonyms will be placed side by side so that we may by mistake
choose an antonym instead of a synonym…so Be Careful..
2. Aptitude Test:

This test will consist of very general questions…This is the easiest section Compared to
the Other Two. Almost 70-80 Questions will be repeated from the Previous TCS
Papers…just learn the method from those papers..same model will be given..(This
happened almost all the times). If you have time refer to any Aptitude book of your
interest…it may be R.S.AGARWAL or any Other……

1
3. Critical Reasoning:
Here Starts your Problems…30 Minutes…12 questions..don’t think that there is a lot
of Time..these will be somewhat tougher those who has some touch with such kind..and
will be Very Tough.. if you haven’t seen this kind before..so,you should have some
practice relating this kind of questions… 3 paragraphs will be given.. 3X4.. 12
questions.. first 2 paragraphs will be some twisty questions… like our arrangements
questions… routes between cities.. like that… and the last one will be on Data
Interpretation…

You prepare Data Interpretation again from BARRON’S…. but the remaining from
R.S.AGARWAL-Reasoning…. Or from Barron’s 13th Edition

4. Psychometric Test:
This test comes up only if you qualify in the Aptitude test… This test consists of 150
questions which we should answer in 30 minutes (of course, that much time is not
required) Don’t think that this test has no weightage.. there is filtering in this test too…
this test tests your psychology.. Remember among 150 many questions were asked again
& again in a
variety of ways.. so don’t get trapped… be honest while attempting this test.. choose
what you’re your heart says.. it will take you through the test..

INTERVIEWS :
Now if you are Alive Even after All these tests….then you have to face a Technical
Interview…
It may be on the same day of the Test.. so be Prepared in Advance…..
The Interview will be done by a Panel of 2 members…. No need to worry.. They will be
Very supporting & Friendly.. First they ask us to Introduce ourselves… then they’ll go
into your project details… don’t forget to prepare project…. They mainly concentrate on
your project only…so be confident on every aspect of your project… then you should
have some basic knowledge on C language. There will be some questions like “what is

2
the o/p of this code?”, “what are the errors in the code?”..like that… so be prepared for
all the basic concepts.. If needed you have to write some small codes too.. at the end they
will ask some general questios like “Why TCS?”, “Where do you see yourself in the next
five years?”, “do you have any questions?”, try ask some questions… it shows your
interest in the Company..

HR:
Now if Chase this one too…. Then comes your Final Attack.. the HR Round… I many
times heard that “I failed in HR round!”.. likewise anwers…. But you should not fail in
it.. because it involves no technical questions… it just dwell into your innerself… so, be
confident and frank while facing this round…They generally ask questions like “Tell
about yourself?”, “Who r your role models?”, “What is your weakness?”, don’t say “I
Have no weakness!”, just prepare a small weakness for yourself that causes no harm to
your future…O.K.. “What is your mother tongue?”

if your Academic background is good.. be prepared to face some Techies here too….

NOW IF YOU ARE SUCCESSFUL HERE TOO….. CONGRATS… YOU ARE IN

3.10 Day Guide To Infosys

I am a fresher who just finsiehd my final year B.Tech Information Technology. Being
fully prepared for the selection test for Infy on June 19th, and with God's grace I was
able to get an appointment Order form Infosys. I would like to give back to the
group the 10 day schedule that i followed, which may be of use in CRACKING the
Infy test. If 10 days arent there for you, then you coudl leve out the days that i have
used for Ravi Narula and the quantitaive Aptitude.

That would bring down the number of days to 7 or 8. You need to manage your time
very effeciently. Spend your itme in studying, and prayers. Prayers do help a lot .

Usually when you register with Infosys, you would get a mail atleast 10 to 12 days
before the written test either by email, or by Post. Let us keep this as 10 days.
Before we start off, three rules must be kep in mind.

FIRST RULE : While job hunting , check your mail on a daily basis, so that you dont
get delayed info regarding test or other such details . Even the appointment order
comes by email.

SECOND RULE : Once you do receive the intimating or hall ticket, check for the
following books. Not all chapters need to be followed in each book and i have given
the need ones in the daily schedule .

(1) Puzzles to Puzzle you - Shakuntala Devi (very Important)

(2) More Puzzles - Shakuntala Devi (very Important)
(3) Puzzles and Teasers - George Sammers (very very Important)
(4) Brain Teasers - Ravi Narula (Optional, but few old sums are here)
(5) Quantitative Aptitude - R.S Agarwal ( Important)

5
(6) Verbal Reasoning - R.S Agarwal (very very Important)
(7) Previous Papers - CE site

THIRD RULE : YOU must forget all your previosu failures and start afresh with firm
determination and enthusiasm. Once you do this, solving puzzles become easy . I
solved 9 out of 10 puzzles. Concentrate on the bigger puzzles first . This may be the
way the marks are distributed:

8 marks and 6 marks - George Sammers and Verbal Reasoning

(R.S Agarwal)
4 marks and 5 marks and 3 makrs - Shakuntala Devi books and
Ravi Narula and Quantitative Aptitude(R.S Agarwal)
Some questions from Previous Papers

Now lets start of with the schedule :

DAY 1 : Start off with Puzzles to Puzzle you - Shakuntala Devi and finish as mush as
possible.Decide to only finish the book and call the day off. Note down the sums
which you are not able to solve or need the answers to solve and keep this list
safely. After you go through the whole book, go back to thses questions and just
check out the way they are solced. Sometimes they will not be explained. In this
case you have no choice but to leave them. But some sums
will have some funny explanations.Just rememeber the way or method.

DAY 2 : Now take a break off from Shakuntala Devi and then start Verbal Reasoning
- R.S Agarwal . In this you just have to do the Puzzle Test Chapter fully , and have a
look at the Number, Ranking and Sequence Test chapter. I contains fully George
Sammers type question on easier scale but you woudl be able to uderstand the
basic logic of solving George Sammers type questions. Finish off the whole book
during the second day. There is just one or two methods to solve these sort of
questions and the explanation is very clear .
Once you get the method , you can solve al the puzzles in this, but just in case do go
through all the puzzles. there have been puzzles in previous papers from here.Once
ou get the method well, there will not be any revision necessary in this book . But
you will have to concentrate on the method.

DAY 3 : Now back to More Puzzles - Shakuntala Dei and follow the same procedure
you followed for the first book.

DAY 4 and DAY 5: Get your George Sammers book and start off solving the
puzzles. The first half is kind of easy, btu dont be worried if your not able to solve
much. Even one or two is enough . The Rest, you just have to use the scheme and
the solutions and then understand the puzzle thoroughly. Many papers have similar
sums with the names changed. Try to finish the first half in a day . And start off the
second half . The second half is relatively tougher, and it
will be very confusing. Just try to solve some. The second half, even the solutions

6
will confuse you more. So just solve as many as you can. The rest you can make use
of the soultions . If they are too complex, Leave them aside. Note down all sums you
could not solve or could solve only using the solutions and list them . When you are
through the whole book, just revise all the sums, giving preference to the ones that
you have listed . It si okay even if you
sit with George Sammers for three days. But you must fully be able to undertsand all
the question in the First part. The second part, atleast maybe few sums are optional.

DAY 6 : Take your quantitative Aptitude book by R.S Agarwal and work out the
following chapters fully. Note down tough sums and their solutions and come back to
solve thme and revise them. The chapters to be done are :
(1) Time and Distance (very important)
(2) Time and Work
(3) Pipes and Cisterns
(4) Trains
(5) Boats

DAY 7 : Revise Shakuntala Devi book-1 and revise it well. Not necessary to wokr out
the porblems. Just check if your method is correct . The sums you have listed, give
them extra importance. By the end of this day , you must Shakuntala Devi book-
1(Puzzles to Puzzle you ) on your finger tips.

DAY 8 : Revise the book-2 of Shakuntala Devi , just how you revised the first
book.End of this day you shoudl ahve both Shakuntala devi books at your finger tips.

DAY 9 : Revise George Sammers, such that you can easily solve the whole first
part . The second part , leave ii , if it is tough.

DAY 10 : Check out Ravi Narula. The sums are very tough . It will be enough if you
just c the solutions and understand them . Some sums are asked in some papers.
( There is one questin abt some ANYMAN reaching ANYWHERE. His tyre gets
punctured and he reaches late. If his tyre got punctured earlier / later then he would
have reached earlier/later. How far did he travel..soemthing like that).that is form
this book . Many papers have this sum repeated. But the names are changed. Ravi
Narula is just optional, but I suggest that you go
through all sums and their solution atleast once.Dont take too much
time on Ravi Narula. Just three or four hours would be sufficient.

Lastly, Check out old papers.

INTERVIEW : Interview is Casual. If you have done excellently well in the test , your
interview process is very simple and a walkthrough if you have good communication
skills ( Speak clearly, frankly). My Interview Panle consisted of one Madame and one
Sir. They asked me abt Team Wokr, Abt my College, Abt my family, My hobbies, My
interests, Certain changes i would like to bring out in the current socio-economic
development (I said to remove unemployment).I was not asked any puzzles in my
interview. But I do have a list of puzzles
that coudl be possibly asked. I would post them too on this forum .

Interview was very friendly. You are free to ask the panel your performance and
expectation of your order. Be positive. That’s a very very big Point in your HR
interview. My friend had a stress interview. Be cool, Dont react.

Infosys Technologies has got the most structured recruitment process among all
IT companies in India. First of all, they do not have any distinction between any
branch of Engg. Whatever be the branch, you can sit up for the selection process if
you qualify their other eligibility criteria like marks and time gap. i.e Once you had
appeared for any test at Infosys, you will have to wait for 9 months until you appear
for any of their recruitment process.

For Off-campus, send in your resumes to the mailId mentioned and you are sure to
get a call latter if you meet their academic criteria. Hence once you send the resume,
start preparing for the exam, because you are sure to get a call. You may get call
through e-mail invitation and further the admit card will be send to your postal
address through courier/post.

Latest selection process. ( As on March 2006)

The duration of the selection process is 2.5 hrs which includes filling in an application
form, an Aptitude Test ( Analytical Thinking and Arithmetic Reasoning) and a test of
Communicative English Language. The duration of the tests alone will be 90
minutes.

The Aptitude Test will be generally of Puzzles type and the no. of questions will vary
between 9 - 15. The best way to practice for the tests is to go through the previous
question papers at Freshersworld.com or refer books like Sakuntala Devi or George
Summers.

Go through the Maximum No. of previous question papers and prepare well for the
puzzles.

SOME TIPS FROM Freshersworld TO GET CALL FROM

INFOSYS
INFOSYS receives lakhs of resumes every year and they can offer call letter for
around 10,000 people only for every test. So sometimes it depends on luck also.

But here are few tips that may maximize your chance of getting call.

1) For INFOSYS, following details are mandatory. Without these, they will simply
throw your resume in to trash. They won't even look at other details. So make sure
that these details are in 1 st page of resume and clearly visible.

-- Full Name, Mail ID, Contact Address, Phone Number

-- Date of Birth
-- Academics of 10 th, Inter, Grad, Post Grad (Write Aggregate Percentages. Don't

8
write percentages of each Semester. They won't calculate what is the average
percentage.)

2) Try to send your resume every 15 days or 30 days. (Especially send it when they
announce Off-Campus in news papers.)

3) Write a small covering letter saying that you did not attend INFOSYS test till now
and would like to get a call for next possible test. (Or if you did not attend in last 9
months, mention that.)

4) See to it that your resume is proper. Please refer following Resume Writing Tips
published in Freshersworld.com.
-- CLICK HERE TO READ THE ARTICLE

Most Importantly, BE PREPARED for the test even when you apply. Generally
INFOSYS tries to give a call for all eligible candidates. So you may suddenly get a call
and then you should NOT postpone it. If you postpone, you will never know when
you will get a call again.

CSC PATTERN - AUG 2005

Hi

The exam which you are pointing, i think it's a general exam which CSC conducts for
every person as the initial process, it contains the general ability, but i would like to
suggest you to go through the Competitive Success Review (CSR) or any other
competitive book for the preparation..

The paper contains 100 questions which you need to complete them in 25 min.

No negative marking for that, but don't try to put all random answering for the
unknown one .. because even that will be judged.

And there is no general knowledge based questions, and it would be totally of 2 parts like Maths, English
gramatical and you will find the alternative questions from these two parts, like 1st English, 2nd Maths, 3rd
English, 4th Question Maths..etc..
Anyway all the best and even wish to be a part of C

Written Test

The written test consists of two sections each of 45 minutes duration

9
Section#1

This is the aptitude section consisting of 45 questions to be attempted in 45 minutes. As

is in all the exams, this section is based on the MBA pattern of examination.

Section#2

his is the technical section. There is a separate paper for hardware and software.
Candidates have to mention beforehand whether they want to write the software or the
hardware paper. This section also carries 45 questions to be completed in 45 minutes.

Interview
There are two rounds of interviews, viz., the technical and and the HR round

Technical and Personal Round for Software Candidates

Mainly subjective questions in C, Operating Systems, DBMS, Data Structures are asked
interspersed with some on the candidate's personal background.

.Typical questions in C and Data Structures

1. WAP to interchange 2 variables without using the third one

2. Explain quick sort and merge sort algorithms amn derive the time-constraint relation
for these.
3. Explain binary searching, fibonacci search
4. General questions on binary trees, transversals
5. General questions on graphs and their representation.

Typical Questions on Operating Systems

1. Demand paging, page faults, replacement algos, thrashing, etc

2. Paged segmentation and segment paging

In this section, case studies are presented are presented before the candidate to percieve
his reaction and his/her communication skills are tested. IBM expects teamwork and
teamspirit from the candidates and their answers should reflect this attitude

Typical question is

You are a project manager of a big multinational project. There is a person X, assigned
to you who has the best technical skills required for the project, even better than you.

10
But he wishes to be the project manager ,which the management does not permit, due to
which he threatens to quit. All others in the group are not as competent. Talk yourself
out of this situation pretending that the interviewer is the disgruntled employee and
explain the necessary action.

This section consisting of 15 questions is based on general computer awareness.
In this section: A correct answer carries 1 mark 1/4 marks will be deducted for a
wrong answer.

Section#2

In this section: A correct answer carries 2 marks 1/4 mark will be deducted for a
wrong answer.

7. WIPRO

Three sections: u have to clear each section separately 15-verbal,15-apti,20-

technical time 50 minutes.

verbal type :word pair, analogy, fill in the blanks with appropriate words

Apti type:people,n chairs/chambers/parking etc all questions of this type and also a

Interview was in 2 stages , technical was mainly concentrated on data structure

and C .. DBMS and CPP was also asked but stress was mainly upon the former , linux
was asked too if it was mentioned in the CV it was grilling and easy for some (there
were 7 panels) for the non -IT branch the interview was mainly on their project . HR
was also an easy cake , we had to prepare for 2 questions:What u know abt wipro
and ur strong points ,weak point, hobbies nothing else but the most surprising part
was that they eliminated more than 50 % of the candidates in the HR only whereas
in others HR eliminates only 5-10% ... bye and best of luck
