OUR FOREST REST HOUSES

Forest Department Uttarakhand offers accommodation in the midst of forests in the state
of Uttarakhand in forest Rest Houses (FRHs ). There are more than 200 FRH, which are
heritage buildings located in beautiful and serene surroundings. Visitors can enjoy the
facility of staying in FRH subject to availability.

Staying at the Forest Rest House provides an opportunity for experiencing and
appreciating the bounties of nature. Nature walk, trekking, wildlife sighting, bird
watching, nature photography, learning local culture etc are few things to look for while
staying at our FRHs.

Trained guides who belong to the region and are familiar with local flora and fauna escort
visitors. Assistance is offered in organizing day tours and nature trails.
First-aid facilities are available at FRHs. We look after the safety and hospitality in our
forests.

GARHWAL REGION
JHAJRA
It is located 15 km away from Dehradun on Chakrata road providing opportunity for living with nature.
A FRH with 2 suites is available for comfortable stay. Camping site is also available for 5to8 tent.

LACHIWALA
Is located 15 km away from Dehradun on Haridwar Road. Picnic spot, wildlife watching and natural
beauty are added attractions. FRH with 2 suites is available for comfortable stay.

THANO
FRH with 2 suites facilitated with necessary amenities is available at 20 km away from Dehradun on
Dehardun-Rishikash road via Raipur. Camping sites for tents is also available inside this naturally
beautiful area along with opportunity for wildlife sighting.

KARWAPANI
Is located 18 km from Dehradun on Dehradun-Saharanpur road providing opportunity for living with
nature, wildlife and bird watching. A FRH with 2 suites is available for stay. Camping site is also
available for 5to8 tent.

TIMLI
It is situated about 5 km from Herbertpur on Dehradun-Saharanpur road. A FRH with 2 suites is
available within naturally beautiful area providing opportunity for wildlife sighting. Asan Barage is
added attraction, which is about 5 km from Timli.

KEMPTY FRH is about 14 km from Mussoorie on Mussoorie -Kempty road. The FRH overlooks the
beautiful Kempty falls and has 02 suites. The food can be made available on demand.

Devalsari FRH in Mussoorie Division has 02 suites and is in the midst of beautiful forest.

RINGALGARH FRH is about 70 km from Dehradun on Maldevta -Satyo road at an elevation of

about 1550m in the catchment’s of Song river in the midst of chir pine forest. The serene natural
surroundings, simple village life and nature walk are attraction for spending holidays for rejuvenation.

CHAKRATA
 Known for its pristine and unparalleled beautiful landscape, majestic coniferous forest of deodar,
oak and rhododendron offers opportunity to experience stillness and serenity in nature. Budher is 10 km
from here by motorable road giving opportunity to have an amazing view of Himalayan peaks from
Khaliya top linked through 3 km trek. A FRH with 3 suites is available for stay at a height of 2200 m.
Heavy snow fall occurs during winter. Tiger fall located about 5 km from here is another attraction.
Chakrata is a cantonment area and is restricted for foreign tourists.

DEOBAN
It is about 20 km away from Chakrata at an elevation of 2300 m above sea level inside majestic
forest of deodar, fir and spruce. Snowfall starts early in winter. An attractive place for mountain trekkers
providing amazing views of all know and unknown Himalayan peaks from Vyas Point.

KANASER

Situated 30 km from Chakrata on motorable road at an elevation of 2100 m. A very attractive place to
camp in the heart of nature to enjoy stillness and solace in with majestic forest of deodar and oak. It is a
very good place for study of flora along with trekking, bird watching besides opportunity to have a
glimpse of Jaunsari culture and enjoy campfire. A forest rest house with 2 suites along with twin sharing
10 wooden barracks and sites for 8 to 10 tentage are available for stay.

MUNDALI

Another place to attract nature lovers and trekkers within Chakrata-Deoban-Kanasar stretch located
about 50 km away on motorable forest road from Chakrata at height of about 2200 m. A forest rest
house with 2 suites and 10 barracks are available for stay.

JARMOLA
FRH is located on Purola –Tuni road, has excellent hill surrounding in beautiful Chir forest. The nature
walks; trekking and glimpse of local culture are attractions. FRH has 03 suites and tented
accommodation.
SANDRA
FRH is located on Purola- Arakot road, on the bank of river Tons amidst beautiful Chir forest, has 02
suites and tented accommodation.

KHIRSU
A serene place enriched with pristine forest for nature lovers and environmentalist is situated 20 km
from Pauri at 1700m above sea level. The place is ideal for having a picturesque mountain view of a
number of peaks of Himalayas. FRH with 2 suites & camping sites with 5 tents is facilitated with
necessary amenities. Eco Development Committee of the village provides the various services.

Saneh
Saneh FRH having 2 suites, is located about 12 km from Kotdwar to Ramnagar via Kalagarh
road inside mixed forest of Sal and its associates providing a good opportunity, for wildlife sighting and
trek routes to several places of environmental importance.

Kolhuchaur
This FRH consisting to 2 suites is further 9 km away from Saneh (21 Km from Kotdwar) at a
height of 400 m inside dense mixed forest of Sal and associates providing a good opportunity for
wildlife and bird watching along the river Kolhu as well as inside forest area. There are several trekking
routes connecting places of environmental importance.

Nauri
Naudi FRH with single suite is situated 23 km away from Kotdwar on Kotdwar-Dugadda-
Sendhikhal road at an elevation of 800 m. Being a part of elephant corridor it provides ample
opportunities for various wildlife sighting inside dense mixed forest of Sal and its associates. The
complete area of Saneh, Kolhuchaur, Naudi falls under elephant corridor on the fringe area of Corbett
Tiger Reserve.

SENDHIKHAL
FRH is 30 km from Kotdwar and 15 km from Dugadda was established in 1939.It is in
the midst of dense forest with rich wildlife. FRH has 2 suites.

PAKHRO
FRH is located 25 km from Kotdwar on Kotdwar –Kalagarh road.The FRH was established in 1891 and
is surrounded by dense forest rich in wild animals and birds. FRH has 2suites.

Rathuahdab
FRH is located on Kotdwar-Maidaban road, and was established in1899. The area is in midst of dense
forest which is endowed with rich wild animals and birds. FRH has 2suites.
MUNDIAPANI
FRH is located on Kotdwar-Maidaban road, was established in 1903. The area is in midst of green
surrounding with rich wild animals and birds. FRH has 2 suites.

MORGHATTI
FRH is located close to Kalagarh and was established in 1890. The area is in midst of dense forest which
is endowed with rich wild animals and birds. FRH has 2 suites.

HALDUPARAO
FRH is located in the buffer zone of Corbett National Park. The FRH was established in 1922 and is
surrounded by dense forest rich in wild animals and birds. FRH has 2 suites.

KANDA
FRH is located in the buffer zone of Corbett National Park. The FRH was established in 1922 and is
surrounded by dense forest rich in wild animals and birds. FRH has 2 suites.

NEW TEHRI
Forest rest house with 3 suites is situated at an height of about 1900 m providing opportunity for
vast Himalayan view. Famous Tehri Lake is another attraction to stay here.
CHAMBA
FRH is about 85 km from Haridwar on Rishikesh -New Tehri road. FRH was established in 1948, is in
the midst of Banj Oak forest. New Tehri is 12 km from Chamba.Nature walk, trekking, snow clad peak
view and Tehri Dam are attractions.

BHATWARI
FRH is located about 35 km from Uttarkashi on Uttarkashi-Gangotri National highway on the bank of
River Bhagirathi. The serene and splendid view of verdant valley, forest covered mountains and River
Bhagirathi is enthralling. FRH has 02 suite and food is available on demand..

HARSIL
Harsil is on way to Gangotri Dham about 70 km from Uttarkashi on Uttarkashi-Gangotri National
highway. This Hamlet offers immaculate beauty of Himalayas at an altitude of 2620m above sea level.
Harsil is on the bank of River Bhagirathi, is surrounded by breathtaking splendor of Majestic Himalayan
peaks and Deodar and other conifer forest. FRH has 02 suites and food is available on demand. Visitors
can enjoy the facility of staying in FRH subject to availability. Harsil is a cantonment area and is
restricted for foreign tourists.

GANGOTRI
This Hindu pilgrimage is beautifully placed at an elevation of 3140m above sea level. It is 25 km from
Harsil. Gaumukh glacier is 18 km by trek from Gangotri. There are new and old log cabins consisting of
02 suites each and pre-fabricated huts have 03 rooms. Visitors can enjoy the facility of staying in FRH
subject to availability.
AGORA
It is situated 12 km by road from Sangamchatti and then 6 km by trek at about 2300 m above sea
level inside beautiful forest of deodar, oak, spruce & fir. It is on route to Dodital trek. FRH with 2 suites,
10 eco-lodges, and a camping site for big tentage are available with necessary amenities. Villagers at
prescribed rates provide boarding and other eco-services. There are several trek routes within 2 km from
the FRH joining each other. Opportunity for rural tourism is also available.

DODITAL
It is further 10 km by trek from Agora where a FRH, log cabin and site for tent pitching are
available inside beautiful forest of fir, spruce and oak. There are several trek routes within 2 km of area
from the FRH. Angling is an added attraction. Trained villagers provide Boarding and eco-services.

VIRAHI

It is situated on Rishikesh-Badrinath road and 6 kms form Chamoli town. It is at a height of

900m on the banks of the Alaknanda River. The camping site has 4 bamboo huts along with 3 tents.
Water and electricity are available round the clock. The FRH is also located 2 km from the camping site
and has two suites for accommodation with dinning facilities.

SITEL

It is located in the Chamoli district on the Roopkund trekking route. It is on the banks of Nandakini river
at an elevation of 1600m amidst deodar forests. View of the snow-clad peaks of the Himalayas is
mesmerizing. There is a provision for 2 tents at the camping site along with water, electricity and toilets.
The FRH is also located adjacent to the camping site and has a two bedroom set with a dining hall.
Himalayan peaks are visible from here.
GWALDAM

FRH is overlooking the Pinder river and about 45 km from Kausani via Karanprayag. The Himayalan
view, Trishul peaks, dense conifer forest and fruit orchards, trekking, bird watching are some important
attractions.

MOHANKHAL (via Rudraprayag) near Pokhri is in Chamoli district. FRH was established in 1958.
The dense forest, rich wildlife and the panoramic view of Himalayas are attractions for staying in the
FRH.

MANDAL
FRH is located about 20km from Gopeshwar. The dense forest, musk deer breeding center, trekking are
attractions for staying in the FRH.

KUMAON REGION
KILBURY

Situated about 13 km from Nainital town at elevation of 2215 meter. An attractive place for eco-tourists
providing opportunity to experience of living with nature on 9 km trek route to Naina Peak through
dense forest of deodar, oak, surai & burans etc. along with extensive Himalayan view, animal and bird
watching. Eight camping sites for tentage are available. Heavy snow fall is experienced during winter.
Botanical garden is on the way.
VINAYAK

A FRH with two suits and five tentage sites are available inside dense forest of deodar, oak, surai &
burans etc. facilitated with water, solar light and clean toilets it is 22 km from Nainital at an elevation of
2216 m. providing opportunity for animal and bird watching, trek route etc. Heavy snow fall occurs
during winter. Boarding and guide facilities available through villagers on reasonable rates.

KUNJAKHARAK

Situated about 37 km from Nainital at an elevation of 2323 m. FRH with two suites and two tentage sites
are available with facilities of solar light, rain water harvesting system & clean toilets etc. An attractive
place for eco-tourists provides an opportunity to experience living with nature, animal and bird
watching, bear caves, trek route etc. inside dense forest of deodar and its associates. Boarding and guide
facilities available through villagers on reasonable rates.

MAHESHKHAN
FRH is 21 km from Nainital near Bhowali at an elevation of 2085m in the midst of beautiful dense
forest, rich in wild animals & birds. The peaceful natural surroundings in the vicinity of hill station
Nainital, nature walk and Himalayan view rejuvenate holidays. FRH has 2 suites with solar lighting and
camping space.

SONI
A camping place to enjoy nature inside Chir pine and oak forest is situated about 20 km from
Ranikhet on Ramnagar-Ranikhet road at a height of about 1800 m. FRH with 2 suites and 3 camping
sites for tentage are available with necessary amenities.
EDADEO
A rest house having 2 suites along with 2 camping sites for tentage is located at the top of hill
accessible by road about 15 km from Almora at a height of about 1800 m. Kausani, a well known tourist
place is near to it. It provides opportunity to enjoy nature inside Chir pine and oak forest.

LOHARKHET
It is located on the Pindari Glacier trekking route and is the first halt before the commencement of the
trek. It is at an elevation of 1552 mts. One can view the snow clad peaks of Sirmul, and Dhakuri .There
is a reception centre which caters for registration of trekkers going on Pindari glacier trekking. There is
provision for 8 tents with toilets, water and solar light facilites. There is also a PWD Guest house and a

MUNSYARI
Situated 135 km from Pithoragarh at 2300 m above sea level. It is an attractive place for nature
lovers from all over the world & works as base camp for high altitude trek routes inside Himalayan
region to Milam glacier and Panchachuli Massif. Khalia Top Bugyal is only 9 km from here. The area is
rich in rare medicinal plants and herbs along with animal and birds. It also provides good opportunity for
snow capped mountain view. A FRH consisting 3 suites is available for stay. Trained guides and porters
and homestays are available at reasonable rates in local village Jainti and Sarmoli.

THALKEDAR
Situated about 20 km from Pithoragarh at an elevation of 2000 m. This place is famous for
ancient Shiva temple and provides a majestic view of Himalayas along with wildlife sighting and
medicinal plants. A FRH consisting of 2 suites is available for stay.

BERINAG
This FRH consisting of 2 suites at an elevation of 2300 m, about 85 km from Pithoragarh inside
beautiful forest of oak, deodar and associate. Famous Patal Bhuvnesh cave and well known Mahakali
temple are added attractions in the vicinity of this place.

SANDEV
FRH is 55km from Pithoragarh on Didihat –Thal motor road. FRH is located 1.4 km on
Sandev -Kaflani forest road at an elevation of 1930m above sea level. The area has beautiful Deodar
forest with rare species of tree fern. The view of Himalayan peaks of snow clad mountains of
Panchachuli, Trishul, Nandadevi, Nandakhat and Nandaghunti is mesmerizing. There are temples of
Sirakot, Baikhunt Dham,Devchula Bhagling are of historical and spiritual importance. The FRH has 2
suites and camping site.

KALADHUNGI
A FRH with 2 suites is situated midway from Ramnagar to Haldwani on the fringe area of
Corbett National Park. Corbett museum, Corbett Fall along with trek to Corbett village (Choti
Haldwani) are the attractions to stay in the FRH.
SITABANI
Sitabani FRH is about 20 km form Ramnagar in the dense Sal forest on the fringe area of Corbett
National Park having 2 suites with necessary amenities.

SURAI FRH is about 9km from Khatima on Khatima -Surai forest road in the midst of dense and
beautiful Sal forest. The forest is rich wildlife and bird life and has been a habitat of swamp deer.

MOHAN is situated 4km from Dhangari and 11km from famous Gargia temple. FRH dating back to
1900 offers ideal halting location with 02 suites and camping facility for visit in and around Corbett
National Park.
