Anticipatory Set: - 15minutes


• Warm up- Students read the introduction to chapter 28 and answer
comprehension questions: Where did the 1920s trends emerge? What audience
did Norman Rockwell appeal to why?
• Define traditionalists
• Define modernists?
• Students preview two magazine covers (projected by teacher)
• In what ways might the magazine exemplify modernism/traditionalism?
• Think about ways traditionalism and modernism may exist in your own life.
Think-pair-share: Talk to your neighbor about how traditionalism and
modernism clash today.
Input: Jigsaw- 45 minutes
Expert Teams-Students meet in expert teams for 15 minutes to share notes and double
check if everyone has the correct answers from last nights HW. Students clarify and
reflect on their individual sections
Home Teams- students move into their home teams to share information from their
individual sections. 30mins

Guided Practice: 40minutes Poster Activity - students evaluate today’s traditional


ideas and compare them to today’s modern ideas

• Visual Director –begin working on poster

• Fact writer – begin writing about what you know about the controversial issue

• Traditionalists writer – begin writing about what a traditionalists would think

about your topic

• Modernists writer- begin writing about what a modernists would think about your

topic

5) Before writing on the poster board share information with each other, critiquing and

giving feedback
