The Gordian Knot

In ancient Greek times, there lived a king named Gordius of Phrygia, better known as the father
to Midas with the golden touch. He was a simple farmer who rose from humble origins to the
throne of his country because of his brilliance. As his legacy, he left a puzzle known as the
'Gordian knot', and declared that whoever could untie the knot was destined to become the ruler
of all Asia.

Of course, many people came and tried their hand in untying the knot, but they failed miserably
each time. After many centuries had passed, the 'Gordian knot' became known to all as an
impossible puzzle to solve.

One fateful day, a young prince rode through the town in which the 'Gordian knot' was displayed
as a monument to the impossible. The prince and his army were on their way to battle, but they
were weary from marching and decided to set up camp in the vicinity of the town. In the cool of
the evening, the prince walked down to where the 'Gordian knot' stood, and examined the knot
carefully.

Before long, a crowd gathered around the prince and the 'Gordian knot'. "Here's another
ambitious ruler who will try for hours and then fail", they all whispered to each other.

Noticing the crowd, the prince enquired, "What is the significance of this knot?"

"It is said that the man who unties this knot is destined to become the ruler of all Asia", came the
reply.

Upon hearing this, the prince drew his sword without hesitation and sliced the knot open in one
sharp swing! The people gasped in amazement and horror - no one had ever thought to do such
a thing. The prince sheathed his sword, returned to his camp to spend the night and marched to
battle the next morning.

What became of that young prince? His name was Alexander, better known to all today as
ALEXANDER THE GREAT.

He won battle after battle from that day onwards, and fulfilled his destiny as the ruler of
all Asia.

IMPOSSIBLE for an answer. They drew their sword - their MIND, and cut the knot with one
sharp idea.

Today, you're going to be accessing your imagination and generating the IDEAS to all your
problems. You're going to wipe the word impossible from your vocabulary, and replace it with
the word HOW. "How?" is the direct line to your imagination, the MASTER KEY to all the locked
doors on your way to UPCAT success.

If you've lost sight and hope of accomplishing your UPCAT goal, then it's time to march forward
into battle again. This time, instead of going about it the way you're used to doing it, use your
imagination and come up with new solutions to your obstacles. Put your mind to work with the
question: "How?" and you'll be amazed at what comes forth!
