•19TH ANNUAL WASHINGTON COUNTY FIBER TOUR,
which will take place this year on 13 different farms and fiber
processing facilities across Washington County, NY, April 23 &
24. The event is free and open to the public; and will generally
run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Check the website
www.washingtoncountyfibertour.org for specific hours of each
tour stop, as some will be open Saturday only or are planning to
open later on Sunday. The Fiber Tour, and most events at the
individual farms and facilities, will take place rain or shine - so
dress for the weather. Farmers across the county will open their
barns, fields, and shops to allow visitors of all ages to meet their
sheep and lambs, alpacas, llamas, and rabbits. Join them to learn
about breeding and raising fiber animals including shearing and
fiber processing. Some farmers will also demonstrate how they
spin, dye, felt or weave with their animals’ fibers. Visitors can
purchase beautiful fiber products at the farms including soft shorn
fleeces, roving for spinning, yarn and supplies for knitting and
crocheting, fiber carding and spinning equipment, and handmade
items such as felted scarves and knitted socks. In addition, some
of the participating farms and facilities will offer other activities
such as fun projects for kids, tips for evaluating and selecting
fleeces for fiber projects, needle felting workshops, and drop

Falls United Methodist Church at 16 State Street in Valley Falls

ERIKA SELLAR RYAN ESQ. TO PRESENT WOMEN’S
HEALTH DAY WORKSHOP. The Salem Area Woman’s Club
continues to prepare for the 17th Annual Women’s Health Day “By
Women-For Women” to be held on Saturday, April 30th at Salem
Washington Academy. Erika Sellar Ryan Esq. will offer the workshop
entitled “Living Will, Health Care Proxy and Power of Attorney Forms:
What you need to know to ensure that your wishes are respected,
your assets are managed and your family has peace of mind.” Attorney
Sellar Ryan will discuss each form in detail, describing the benefits and
drawbacks of each form and the appropriate situations for each. She
will also dispel common misunderstandings about them. In addition to
highlighting the implementation of each form and the appropriate
procedure for revocation of the listed powers, Ms. Sellar Ryan will
answer any and all questions regarding the three forms. In addition to
the keynote speaker, Reverend Debbie Earthrowl, and the six
workshop choices, attendees will enjoy breakfast and lunch options
and a chance to win door prizes contributed by many local businesses.

Association will award the Francis Ostrander Scholarship of $350 to
a member of the senior class at Schuylerville Central High School who
will be attending a two or four year college in the fall. A $250 scholarship
will be awarded to the runner-up. Applicants must complete a 600-
word essay on one of two topics, which are: The role Philip Schuyler
played in the development of Old Saratoga OR How living in an historic
village or area has influenced my life. Submit applications by May 10

short statement with the name, address, and career plans of the
applicant and the college that the applicant will attend should

• TEAM SPARKLE RUNS FOR LITERACY Team Sparkle started
as a way for a group of Rensselaer County residents to have fun and
raise funds for a worthy cause. Last year Kristin Morgan, a Literacy
Volunteers tutor who has chaired fundraising events for Literacy
Volunteers of Rensselaer County in the past, combined her love of
running and her dedication to the cause of literacy by challenging
friends and neighbors to compete in the 5K Literacy Run/Walk. The
result was a 16-member team called Sparkle. This year the team is
gearing up once again for the 5K in Troy. On Sunday, May 1, runners
between the ages of 12 and 60-something will be out in hot pink
Sparkle tee shirts, showing their support for literacy programs in
Rensselaer County. The goal this year is for all the team participants
to be sponsored runners. Since runners usually rely on friends and
neighbors for sponsorship, this is a way for Team Sparkle to cast the

MESSA DA REQUIEM. THE Adirondack Voices, together with
the Queensbury High School Concert Choir, orchestra and soloists,
will perform Giuseppe Verdi’s Messa da Requiem on Tuesday,

Bently is a six year old neutered grey tabby male. He is a
very mellow, friendly boy who will do well in any home. He
is a beautiful medium haired guy who is the envoy of all the

Lucy is a nine year old spayed female tabby that came to Second Chance
because her owner was having financial difficulties and could no longer afford
to have her. Lucy is a small kitty that is very loving and
