INTRODUCTION
Asalam‐o‐Alaikum. My intention behind writing this article is nothing but
telling my brothers and sisters whats right and about my experience and
how I left music. Neither is my intention to convince anyone forcefully or
impose on anyone forcefully to leave music because this is not a debating
competition. Allah(swt) doesn’t need sinners like me to spread His
message. He Alone is enough for everyone. Infact He has given us human
beings an opportunity to grab the reward and decrease our sins by telling
others about whats right and whats wrong. There are a lots of brothers
and sisters out their who want to listen but there is none to tell them.
They are confused and none is there to tell them the true nature and
beauty of Islam. Immoralities are happening on such a majority level that
people feel inferiority complex when listening to something related to
Islam. They feel more happy and comfortable in talking about worldly
things which don’t even concern them. I mean we hear news about the
celebrities life and start discussing them. We start discussing how
Amitabh bachan will manage the marriage of his son. I mean what is that?
Does that even concern us? We feel more comfortable talking about that
rubbish which won’t help us anywhere in this life and in the Hereafter and
feel inferiority complex and afraid while talking about Islam.
So this article is a very small effort of mine to tell those brothers and
sisters who atleast want to hear and are confused. I request all my
brothers and sisters that my Knowledge is not scholarly and if I say
something unappropriate or wrong in this article then kindly tell me.

Most of our So‐called reformist Muslims who misunderstand the meaning
of Ijtihaad(consensus) and Qiyas are trying to reform Islam and trying to
make it EASY(as they say). Its really sad that such people think they can
reform Islam after it has been completed 1400 years ago and think Islam
is difficult. Allah(swt) says in the Glorious Quran :‐
This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour
upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.
Surah‐Al‐Maeda (Chapter 5‐Verse 3)
"And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and in justice. None
can change His Words. And He is the AllHearer, the AllKnower."
Surah‐Al‐An’am(Chapter 6‐Verse 115)
Such an example is of music. Our own so‐called Muslim scholars are trying
to declare music as halaal. One may ask from where are they deriving
such fatwas(opinion)? One may ask what proof they have for their
argument about music being halaal. Well that’s another thing that
someone may bring vague proof like Shoaib mansoor in the movie “Khuda
kay liye” and quote one or two Ahadith of which he himself doesn’t know
the context. What proof he has given to declare music halaal? Just one or
two ahadith of which he does’nt even know the context?
16‐02‐08 Page 4

Let us first analyze the SO‐CALLED proofs which this man put forward to
declare music as ‘halaal’. In his movie a hadith is quoted which is as
follows :‐
Narrated by Aisha(may Allah be pleased with her) that she prepared a lady
for a man from the Ansar as his bride and the Prophet(pbuh) said, “O ‘Aisha!
Haven’t you got any amusment (during the marriage ceremony) as the Ansar like
amusment?”
Let us analyze this hadith in detail. Firstly where in this hadith is written
that use of musical instruments is halaal? How did Shoaib Mansoor derive
from this hadith that use of MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS is halaal? This hadith
is quoted in the movie, in a scene of the court in which the Indian actor
Naseer‐ud‐din shah quotes this hadith that “the Prophet(pbuh) asked
Hazrat Aisha(may Allah be pleased with her) whether she is taking some
lady singers with her as ansar like amusement”. I think Shoaib Mansoor
never studied the Islamic history. Those who have studied, clearly know
that on marriages women can sing ONLY infront of the women without
the use of MUSICAL INSTRUMENT except duff. Now people might have
confusion here that Why is ‘Duff’ allowed and why are other instruments
not allowed? The answer of this question is given in COMMON
QUESTIONS in this article.
According to the Sunnah, females can sing and beat the duff on the two
'Eids (specific Muslim celebrations) and to announce a Muslim wedding
amongst themselves, and their voices shouldn't be raised loud enough or
near enough to be heard by the men.
So from where did the question of use of musical instrument arise? And
how did this man derive from this hadith that astaghfirulla Prophet(pbuh)
was referring to use of musical instruments and intermingling of sexes by
amusement. There is a hadith of Sahih Al‐Bukhari according to which the
use of musical instruments is clearly forbidden. This hadith is explained
16‐02‐08 Page 5
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED
PRAISE BE
TO ALLAH
below(Hadith number 1). So can two ahadith contradict regarding use of
musical instruments in Sahih‐Bukhari? Even the intellect doesn’t agree on
it. Any knowledgeable person would know that the hadith which shoaib
mansoor used in this movie doesn’t mean that Prophet(pbuh) was
referring to use of MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS. But sadly most of our people
don’t even care to do research on their own and blindly believe on what
so‐called Islamic scholars and MODERN MUSLIMS like Shoaib mansoor tell
them.
Shoaib Mansoor also gave example of Hazrat Dawood(AS). Can he prove
from any Islamic history book that Hazrat Dawood(AS) ever used musical
instrument? Hazrat Dawood(AS) used to do Allah’s hamd with his
beautiful voice and not play musical instruments. Can you imagine that he
ever played guitar, tabla etc (astaghfirulla)? Secondly Hazrat Dawood(AS)
was sent for a specific group of people and for a specific time. But our
Holy Prophet(pbuh) was sent for the whole of world and till the Day of
judgement. So shouldn't we see Holy Prophet’s (pbuh) sayings and follow
his Sunnah? What about the number of Authentic ahadith quoted in Sahih
Bukhari and other authentic ahadith in which clearly Musical instruments
except Duff have been forbidden and haraam? What about those??
Shaoib Mansoor also tried to derive through ‘Torah’ that musical
instruments are allowed. People don’t realize that the final word is the
Glorious Quran and we have to follow it. All other books which Allah
revealed are not exactly the same which Allah Almighty revealed. Human
beings have corrupted them for their own benefits. Now what Mr. Shaoib
Mansoor did is that he picked this hadith and the example of Hazrat
Dawood(AS) and tried to relate this to use of Musical Instrument. This is
like I pick the verse of the Glorious Quran that
16‐02‐08 Page 6

and stop here and say “SEE THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULDN’T OFFER PRAYER”.
What is that? Shouldn’t I see the context of this verse. Shouldn’t I use my
brain? Shouldn’t I see the full verse? The full context of this verse is:
So if someone quotes that hadith and doesn’t even see the context of
that hadith and the example of Hazrat Dawood(AS) and doesn’t seem
to understand and having read the history. Can we put our trust on
such a person?
For people like him and others who want to REFORM Islam the following
ahadith says it all.
PROOF FROM THE AHADITH:
1- Narrated Abu Amir or Abu Malik Al Ashari that he heard the Prophet saying,
"From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal
sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the
use of musical instruments {ma'aazif}, as lawful. And there will be some people
who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will
come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to
him, 'Return to us tomorrow.' Allah will destroy them during the night and will let
the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys
and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection."
Most commentators agree that the word ma'aazif - according to correct Arabic
usage - indicates a specific number of things: (a) musical instruments, (b) the
sounds of those musical instruments (music) and (c) singing to musical
accompaniment.
Now this is a clear cut hadith regarding the use of musical instruments. We all
know that it is the ‘Ijmah’ (consensus) of all the Islamic Scholars that Sahih
Bukhari is the most authentic hadith book on the face of earth. It is ranked no.1.
16‐02‐08 Page 7

So those people who argue that the hadith about music being haram are weak
should know their position before saying that.
2- Sahl ibn Sa'ad reported that Allah's Messenger sallallahu alayhi wasallam said,
"At the end of the world, the earth will settle, there will be false accusations of
unchastity, slander and transformation of people into monkeys and pigs." It was
asked, "When, O Messenger of Allah? " He said: "When the musical
entertainment and singers appear." (Ibn- Majah)
"The Messenger (pbuh) of Allah (SWT) said, "Some people of my Ummah will
drink wine, calling it by other than its real name, merriment will be made for them
through the playing of musical instruments and the singing of lady singers. Allah
will cleave the earth under them and turn others into monkeys and swines.
4- Sayyiduna Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Blessed
Messenger (pbuh) of Allah said, “If anyone sits near a singer, and listens to him,
Allah will pour molten lead into his ears on the day of resurrection.”
7- Sayyiduna Nafi (May Allah be pleased with him) says, “Once as I was walking
with Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased with him) when we
heard the sound of music. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Umar (May Allah be pleased
with him) put his fingers in his ears, and walked away from the music. When he
was far away, he asked, :O Nafi’! Can you hear anything?” I replied no, and then
he took his fingers out of his ears, (and) said, ‘Once I was with the
Messenger(Pbuh) of Allah, and he heard the sound of a flute being played, so he
did what I have just done.”
(Abu Da’wood, Hadith 4924,V4,p306)
Further we see in the Glorious Quran.

Surah An Najm,chapter 59 verse 62:
Do you marvel at this statement, and laugh and do not weep, while
you amuse yourselves [proudly] in vanities {saamidoon}? Rather,
prostrate before Allah and Worship Him. [An-Najm : 59-62]
In Surah Luqmaan, chapter 31 verse 6,Allah (SWT) says:
And there are those among men those who purchase idle talk in order
to mislead others from Allah's path without knowledge, and who
throw ridicule upon it. For such there will be a humiliating
punishment. [Luqmaan 31:6]
When Sayyidana Abdullah Ibne Mas`ood , a very close companion of our
Prophet (PBUH) was asked about the meaning of the term `lahwal hadith`,
he replied :
“I swear by Him besides whom there is no other God,that it refers to ghinaa
(singing ).”
He repeated it three times. This view is unanimously supported by the
four Khalifas, the eminent Sahabaah, Tabi`een, the four Imaams and
other reliable Islaamic scholars and authorities.
Some say music and musical instruments are not idle tales (lahu alhadith)
as mentioned in the verse, or the verse is not clear on it being music.
Music was the interpretation of the sahabah. On it, Ibn Abbaas(May Allah
be pleased with him) gave an oath three times. Scholars followed and
agreed in what he said.
The Qur’an is not for me and you to guess its best meaning, the Qur’an
interprets each other or the prophet Muhammad (sallah allahu alieh
wasalam) interpreted it the best or the sahabah interpreted it the best.

The rule in Usool is that that when the sahabah say “this is meant by this
in the Qur’an or this is the ruling on this”, it has hukm alrafa3. Meaning,
the ruling on what they said is as though the prophet (sallah allahu alieh
wasalam) said it, simply because they would not give commands or
prohibitions without knowing or hearing it from the prophet (sallah allahu
alieh wasalam). Allah commanded us in the Qur’an “and a praise to those
who follow them righteously” 9:100. Hence, if we do not follow them
righteously, we are not worthy of the praise. We can only follow them
righteously by following their interpretation of Islam, the Qur’an in
particular.
People who were with the Prophet(Pbuh) in his days and nights are the
most knowledgeable people in Islam. Around them the Qur’an was
revealed, and unto them it was recited first. They are the purest of the
pure in the Arabic language. We do not leave their to that of people who
come seven centuries later, or even 14 centuries later, who most likely
are not well versed in the Arabic language.

1. The Madhab of Imam Abu Hanifa:
The Madhab of Imam Abu Hanifa is among the most critical and harshest
quotes on music. Imam Abu Hanifa’s students clearly declared musical
instruments haram and anyone who listens to it is considered a fasiq whose
testimony is not accepted.
Some went on to say that listening to music is fisq (astray) and enjoying it
is kufr. They used weak hadith to support that statement.
They also said one must strive not to listen to it if he passes by it or if its
near him.
Abu Yusuf, one of Abu Hanifa’s most famous teachers, said, “A house that
music is heard from can be raided without permission because ordaining
the good and forbidding the evil is fard, and if we require permission for
16‐02‐08 Page 10

entry in such situation then people would not be able to perform the fard
of forbidding the evil.”
2. The Madhab of Imam Malik:
Imam Malik (rahimahu Allah ) was asked about those who play the drums
and flute and those who enjoy listening to it as one passes by. He said one
must get up and leave unless he is sitting for something extremely urgent
or cannot get up. If he hears it in his pathway then he should go back or
speed forward.
He said music is something the fusooq (astray) do.
Ibn Abdal Bar (rahimahu Allah) said scholars agree by ijma on the issue of
riba, that the dowry of the prostitution is taking payment for weeping over
the dead, forturne tellers those who claim to know unforeseen and news of
the skies, musical instruments, and all wrongful play.
3. The Madhab of Imam Shafi’i:
His students and those truly knowledgeable of his madhab clearly declared
music and musical instruments haram and denied that he ever said it was
halal.
The author of “Kifayat al Akbar”, who is a Shafi’i scholar, considered
musical instruments an evil that needed to be forbidden upon those who
hear or see it. He said that a person is not excused if scholars who go with
the flow are present (make a fatwa for it) or if they are poor (meaning the
Sufis as that was one of their names back then). Because they are ignorant
followers of everyone who barks. They never follow the brightness of
knowledge but bend to every wind.
4. The Madhab of Imam Ahmad:
Imam Ahmad’s son, Abdullah, asked his father about music. His father said,
“It grows hypocrisy within one’s heart and I dislike it.” And, then he said
Imam Maliks quote that only fusooq (astray) do it.
16‐02‐08 Page 11

Ibn Qudamah, who is considered among the biggest Imam of the Hanbali
Madhabs, said, “Musical instruments are haram like guitar, trumpets,
flutes, drums and so on. Whoever continues to listen to it, his testimony is
rejected.
And then he goes on to say, “If one goes to a wedding with prohibition like
alcohol musical instrument and can forbid evil then he must otherwise he
should not attend.”
5. Ibn Taymiyyah:
He said, as evident with the four imam’s Madhab, that all musical
instruments are haram. As the prophet (sallah allahu alieh wasalam) said in
AlBukhari that there will be those who make halal musical instruments and
that they will be transformed into apes and pigs. He notes that none of the
followers of the four imams mentioned a dispute amongst them on this
matter.
Ibn Taymiyyah also said musical instruments are alcohol to one’s soul, and
it does to one soul more than what alcholol does.
6. More Scholars:
At‐Tabary (rahimahu Allah) said the scholars of all countries have made
ijama that music is hated and must be avoided. He mentioned quotes by
Abul Faraj saying that “Alkafal, from our madhab, said ‘that one who listens
to music or dances, his testimony cannot be accepted, as we have shown it
is not permissible. Therefore, taking salary for it is haram as well.’”
AlQasem said, “Music is of evil.”
Alhassan (rahimahu Allah ) said if people invite u to a marriage that
contains music then their invitation should not be accepted.
However, there are some Ahadith which indicate that it is
permissible to beat the ‘daff’ i.e. the tambourine (which is open
on one side and covered on the other).
16‐02‐08 Page 12
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED
PRAISE BE

Narrated Urwa on the authority of Aisha
“On the days of Mina, (11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhul-Hijjah) Abu Bakr came to her
while two young girls were beating the tambourine (daff) and the Prophet was
lying covered with his clothes. Abu Bakr scolded them. The Prophet uncovered
his face and said to Abu Bakr, "Leave them, for these days are the days of 'Id
and the days of Mina."
“After the consummation of my marriage, the Prophet came and sat on my bed
as far from me as you are sitting now, and our little girls started beating the
tambourines (daff) and reciting elegiac verses mourning my father, who had been
killed in the battle of Badr. One of them said, ‘Among us is a Prophet who knows
what will happen tomorrow.’ On that the Prophet said, ‘Leave this (saying) and
keep on saying the verses which you had been saying before.’
Therefore from the above evidence it is concluded that the use of musical
instruments in general is forbidden in Islam, with the exception of the
'Daff'. Some people might try to quote the above ahadith and try to relate
it with all musical instruments and declare music as halaal. One may ask
the level of understanding that they have. For further detail, read the
common questions below.
1‐ Some say that the ahadith regarding musical instruments as haraam
are weak.
2‐ Some say that music is not haram for itself but it is haram if it drives
you away from the Zikr of Allah(swt) and involves some haram
activity like drinking alcohol, zina etc.
3‐ Some say music and musical instruments are not idle tales (lahu
alhadith) as mentioned in the verse of the Glorious Quran‐Surah
16‐02‐08 Page 13

Luqman Chapter 31 Verse 6(which is shown above), or the verse is
not clear on it being music. (Answer to this is already given above)
4‐ Some use the authentic hadith we mentioned where two girls were
chanting warrior lyrics with a duff on the ‘Eid while the prophet
(sallah allahu alieh wasalam) listened as proof music is halal.
(Answer to this is also already given above)
5‐ Some of those addicted to music go on to say the sahabah and
tabe3een listened to music. (Astaghfirula)
The Answer to all these misconceptions are given in this article. The
answer to first misconception is that they are all strong ahadeeth. Some
ahadeeth are in the 2nd most authentic book after the Qur’an such as
Sahih Bukhari. This hadith is quoted above. Although some ahadeeth are
weak, there are more solid authentic hadith that prohibits music.
The answer to second misconception is given below in ‘The common
questions in this article, in Question number 3.
Anyone who has read the whole of the above must be in various
thoughts. Let me tell the common questions which might arise in the
reader's mind as some of them used to arise in my mind too some time
ago (when I used to consider music as 'Ruh ki ghiza') but Alhamdulila
Allah helped me and showed me the right path.
The most common questions will be:‐
1‐Why make Islam so raw and difficult? Why not make it easy? Why
burden ourselves by leaving music?
2‐What's wrong if I listen to music sometime? It helps me get relief and
relieve my burdens.
3‐Music itself is not haram. It becomes haram when it drives you away
from the zikr of Allah(swt) or it becomes haram when combined with
some haram activity for example drinking, adultery, going to pub etc.
16‐02‐08 Page 14
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED

4‐Music contributes a lot for spreading good message among the people
because most of our generation likes music. So why not use music for a
good purpose?
5‐ Why is ‘Duff’ allowed only? That’s because only ‘Duff’ was present at
that time.Had there been guitar, tabla and other instruments they would
have been allowed too?
6‐Well we have internet and Tv. Just like we can use internet for good and
bad purpose and Tv for watching a good channel or a bad channel,
similarly can't we use music for a good purpose?
7‐Can't we apply Ijtihaad on this issue? Lets not go back 1400 years ago.
Lets reform Islam according to this age and era. Lets make Islam
applicable according to this age and era!
The answers to such questions is as follows :‐
These answers are from my research. What I learnt from listening to
many scholars about this issue. So I am presenting my brothers and sisters
the answers which satisfied me and I left music Alhamdulila. And I hope
most of those who read this document will get satisfied too insha Allah.
People will definitely differ or disagree but my intention is not to win an
argument but to just convey to them the truth. If I say something wrong
in these answers or unappropriate then someone please inform me on my
email address which is the_stained@hotmail.com.
Q.1‐Why make Islam so raw and difficult? Why not make
it easy? Why burden ourselves by leaving music?
Answer‐ The Ahadith given above about music are enough for a good
Muslim who loves Prophet(pbuh) and after reading the Ahadith won't
need any logic. But yet there are people(like I used to be) who will want
logics and strong reasoning.
16‐02‐08 Page 15
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED
PRAISE BE
TO ALLAH
Those who think that Islam is not easy and Mullahs and Scholars are
making it difficult by saying such things that music is haraam, such
brothers and sisters are absolutely confused and haven't understood the
true meaning of Islam. I am sorry to say but their condition is like that of a
weak, lazy and foolish student who has never opened his course book and
never attended the class lecture and in the end when he gives the exam
and could'nt understand it, he blames the teacher that he made such a
difficult paper and the course was very difficult. This single sentence is
enough for the answer. Infact this single sentence is answer of all the
questions for those who have a wide range of understanding. But I'll
continue anyway.
Those people who have never read the Holy Quran with understanding
and never read the Authentic Ahadith with understanding and blindly
believe on what Reformists like Shoaib Mansoor and other so‐called
Scholars on Tv channels tell them and when they are told about such
things like Music being haraam they say don’t make Islam difficult. What
could be said of such people? I think they themselves know their status.
Please brothers and sisters, read the Glorious Quran with understanding.
Just read it once. It is our manual that how to live life in this world which
is going to end one day and then we'll be brought to our Creator
Allah(swt). Sadly we have made Hollywood movies our manual of living
and actors and top 10 music albums. We have been listening from
childhood that Quran is a complete code of life in Islamiat books, but did
we really ever thought about it? We have been memorizing this for
Islamiat paper but never thought of it.
Secondly Islam is the most easiest religion in the whole universe. It’s a
universal truth which none can deny. Even respectable non‐Muslims
intellectuals accept that. It's the easiest religion because you don't need
any idol to worship or you don't have to go to a temple always for your
worship. For example a Muslim who is going in a desert and there is no
water there, no mosque there. He can even pray there by doing
16‐02‐08 Page 16
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED
PRAISE BE
TO ALLAH
Tayammum. If they are two or three in number then one of them can lead
the prayer and they will get the sawaab of jamaat. So see how easy Islam
is. Allah is with you where ever you go, He's watching you where ever you
go, He's listening to your prayers where ever you go. Another example is
that of woman in her specific days. She doesn’t have to offer prayers.
Which religion gives woman such rights? Also one can leave fast when
he/she is ill and not healthy. Pilgrimage is not fardh on the poor who can't
afford its expenses. See how easy our religion Islam is. Now if someone
says that I offer one prayer and neglect the other four because I don't
have much time and because Islam is an easy religion and I listen to music
to get relieved and do activities which are clear cut forbidden in Islam
because at that time such establishment wasn't made and now it is a
modern and advanced era so lets reform Islam and make it easy, then
honestly tell what could be said of such a person??
The following ayat of the Glorious Quran in which Allah (swt) says :‐
This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favour
upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.
Surah‐Al‐Maeda (Chapter 5‐Verse 3)
So my question to those reformists is : When Islam is complete and
perfect and for all the ages till the Day of Judgement then how can we
make any change in Islam or alter it according to a particular Era? How
can we say that according to this age, which is an age of establishment
and music is so common, we can apply ijtihaad and listen to music? Why
is when someone talks about music as haraam we say that he/she is
making Islam difficult. How can we say that?? What proof we have?
Now for those brothers and sisters who say that leaving music will be
burdening ourselves because Music is 'Ruh ki Ghiza' and I won't be able to
live without music. Then I must tell my brothers and sisters that there are
various people in the world who consider Alcohal(Sharaab) as 'Ruh ki
16‐02‐08 Page 17
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED
PRAISE BE
TO ALLAH
ghiza' and argue that they won't be able to live without drinking. Yes they
are right. They won't be able to live because Alcohal has intoxicated the
whole of their body and their minds too and they know that its not good
and the end result for all this is horrible, yet they keep drinking and giving
arguments like that. Have you ever seen a person who smokes and knows
that its dangerous for health, but when it comes to supporting his act
what foolish argument he gives? Such is the condition of us(our young
generation and reformist brothers and sisters). When our beloved
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) declared that making musical instruments is
haram and using them is haram, then listening to a song which contains
music comes next. It is a thing which need not to be discussed. One who
reads the Noble Quran with understanding and Authentic Ahadith with
understanding will never ever call Music as 'Ruh ki ghiza' and insha Allah
such Satan Handiworks won't disable his/her intellect to be intoxicated.
Q.2‐What's wrong if I listen to music sometime? It helps
me get relief and relieve my burdens.
Answer‐ Muslims are aware that nothing has been prohibited by Allah
except that which is harmful to the welfare of a Muslim individual and the
society as a whole. The divine attribute behind the prohibition of music
can be comprehended by looking into the diverse influence music can
have. Experiments carried out by doctors and professors have confirmed
that the music of today is such that it does not only affect the brain, but
each and every organ of one`s body. There is a close relationship between
music and bodily movements. We find that people listening to music
automatically start tapping their fingers and feet, as if the music is
permeating in their blood.
It is also proved that music affect`s one`s emotions, increases arousal in
terms of alertness and excitement and also leads to various physiological
changes in the person. In a psychology experiment, it was found that
listening to moderate type of music increased one`s normal heart beat,
16‐02‐08 Page 18
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED
PRAISE BE
TO ALLAH
whilst listening to rock music the heart beat increased even further, yet
people claim that music has no effect.
It is a very ignorant and misguided attitude to percieve music as a form of
pleasure and passing of time, since the messages of today`s music follow
a general theme of love, fornication, drugs and freedom.
We find that the whole world is obsessed with the kufr idea of freedom,
i.e. freedom of speech, freedom of movement, etc. In modern schools and
universities, we observe independence, free expression and secular
thinking being encouraged. This idea of freedom, “ It`s my life, I`ll do what
I want” is a predominant, underlying theme of today`s music. It is being
used as a means for drilling those modern ideologies that are totally
contrary to Islamic Shariah and values, into the minds of Muslims.
Answer to this question was also best given by Abdur Raheem green
during one of his lectures in India. I would be referring to that answer
also. We all know that many people take drugs. The reason they take
drugs is because it looks very good when they first use it and it gives them
enjoyment and helps them relieve their tentions(according to them). They
have listened to the doctors and many other people about the harmful
effects of drugs but yet they keep taking it because they enjoy taking it. It
might look good in start but everyone know whats the end result of
taking drugs. The more you take it, the more lust of taking them grows
and the more danger they cause to the health mentally as well as
physically. The end result is Disastrous. Similarly many people consider
techno music as a medium of reducing tentions and a great refreshment
for their brain. They say that whats wrong if we listen to music sometime
to relieve ourselves from daily life burdens. What they don’t realize is that
the more they listen to music, the more addictive they become. Infact
music has the same effect of a drug. We all know that the end result of
taking drugs is that instead of becoming mentally relieved, the person
becomes mentally tensed. Such is the case with listening to music. In the
start it looks good. They keep listening to it and it becomes addictive and
16‐02‐08 Page 19

in the end they find that its not enough just like a drug addict keeps on
taking drugs and yet not satisfied. The end result is nothing but
destruction. They lead themselves away from the Zikr of Allah(swt) and
istead of reciting the Quran which is the cure of all tentions and truly
relieves all such burdens, they prefer music. For people who want a
logical and scientific reason of how the Zikr of Allah(swt) releases all
tentions and psychological pressures, since our YOUNG generation is well
educated and needs logics for everthing these days, I will be telling them
about a latest research.
According to a Dutch psychologist Vander Hoven, Muslims who can read
Arabic and who read the Quran regularly can protect themselves from
psychological diseases.
He announced his new discovery about the effect of reading the Quran
and repeating the word ALLAH both on patients and on normal persons.
The Dutch professor confirms his discovery with studies and research
applied on many patients over a period of three years. Some of his
patients were non‐Muslims, others do not speak Arabic and were trained
to pronounce the word "ALLAH" clearly; the result was great, particularly
on those who suffer from dejection and tension.
Al Watan, a Saudi daily reported that the psychologist was quoted to say
that Muslims who can read Arabic and who read the Quran regularly can
protect themselves from psychological diseases. The psychologist
explained how each letter in the word "ALLAH" affects healing of
psychological diseases. He pointed out in his research that pronouncing
the first letter in the word "ALLAH" which is the letter (A),released from
the respiratory system, controls breathing. He added that pronouncing
the velar consonant (L) in the Arabic way, with the tongue touching
slightly the upper part of the jaw producing a short pause and then
repeating the same pause constantly, relaxes the aspiration. Also,
pronouncing the last letter which is the letter (H) makes a contact
between the lungs and the heart and in turn this contact controls the
heart beat. What is exciting in the study is that this psychologist is a non‐

Muslim, but interested in Islamic sciences and searching for the secrets of
the Holy Quran.
Allah, The Great and Glorious, says in the Glorious Quran :‐
We will show them Our signs in the universe and in their own selves,
until it becomes manifest to them that this (Quran) is the truth.
[SURAH ASH SHOORA VERSE 53]
Subhan Allah.
Q.3‐ Music itself is not haram. It becomes haram when it
drives you away from Allah’s zikr or when combined with
some haram activity for example drinking, adultery,
going to pub etc.
Answer‐ Most people who have no knowledge, misunderstand and give
Fatwas from their ownselves that listening to music is allowed as far as
one doesn’t get influenced by it. For example if one is going on a long
drive then whats wrong in listening to a song. I think this is the most
common excuse which many people can give. Using this argument I can
also say that “whats wrong if I drink half glass of Alcohal while on a long
drive. I mean come on its just a half glass. It wouldn’t kill me. I wouldn’t
drink it normally but while on long drive or sometimes I will because it
helps me get relieved”. Ah! What foolish excuse!
Some say music is not haram for itself but only haram if combined to
setting where there is alcohol or other issues(dancing, adultery, going to
pub etc) that are haram. The rule that it must be combined to an
additional matter is wrong. With this argument, we could also say
fornication is not haram unless you drink alcohol and listen to music
because that is all included in the hadith (Hadith no.1 above). According
to their rule we say, “Why would fornication be haram in itself when it is
combined in prohibition of musical instruments and alcohol?” There are
16‐02‐08 Page 21

verses in the Qur’an where Allah says, “He never believed in Allah and
never encouraged to pay to the poor.” (Surah Al Haqqah‐Verse 33‐34)
So according to their rule we can also argue that “Not believing in Allah is
not haram unless you do not pay the poor.”
Ah what a ridiculous rationale!
Some people say that listening to music is okay as far as its not driving
one away from the zikr of Allah(swt). So if one person is praying five times
a day, there is no problem if he/she listens to good music like
ghazal, qawali etc. Firstly we should understand that as Muslims we are
bound by our Creator Allah(swt) to refrain from certain things. If we don’t
then whats the difference between the believers and the unvelievers?
Unbelievers are free in this world. They are not bound by anyone. But we
Muslims as Believers are bound by our Creator. If everyone starts using
this logic that whats wrong if I sometimes do this and that then we all
know what chaos will this create and what example of Islam would be set
infront of the non‐Muslims. So whats prohibited by Allah(swt) and His
messenger Muhammad (pbuh), we Muslims are bound as believers to
refrain from them. We should know our reality and position before
speaking against the clear cut ahadith and Quranic verses. Allah (swt) says
in the following Verse:
“Doth not man see that it is We Who created him from sperm? yet
behold! he (stands forth) as an open adversary!”
[Surah Yaseen.Verse 77]
Secondly those who say that its okay if one prays five times a day and
listen to music. They should know that the Prophet(pbuh) was the best
follower of Islam and after him the Sahabas. So we all agree that no one
could be a better follower than the Prophet(pbuh) and then the Sahabas.
Right? So why not then we find any AUTHENTIC incident when the
Prophet (pbuh) and Sahabas after praying five times a day listened to
music for relief? (Astaghfirula). I used and underlined the word Authentic
16‐02‐08 Page 22

because I know there are some websites in which fabricated narrations
have been quoted according to which the Sahabas used to listen to
music(Astaghfirula). Please bring authentic proof so that the people who
have left music like Junaid jamshed bhai, may know that listening to
music is okay as far as it doesn’t drive one away from Allah’s zikr.
Firsly all brothers and sisters should know that its not the MUSIC which
contributes for spreading good. It’s the LYRICS. Does music alone is
responsible for spreading good? If it is then what good has techno music
spread in the world? Did some people come into the fold of Islam or they
did some very modest act through techno music? If yes then someone
please tell me. I am very keen to know. Seriously!
It’s the lyrics and the effect of good poetry which influences one and not
the music. For example the song by Adnan Sami 'Ey Khuda'. The poetry is
very good. I want to ask Adnan bhai that what was wrong if he had sang
the song without the music? What harm would it have done?

such songs and get influenced. Allama iqbal's poetry is such a great asset
to the Muslim nation. Don't people get influenced by that? Isn’t such
poetry enough for us to be influenced? Then whats the purpose of music.
From where did use of music came? Our singers take some poem of these
great poets and then make a song out of them using guitar, tabla etc.
Some people might say that because our Youth loves music and it runs in
their veins so it’s a nice idea to spread the message of Islam through
music. They don't take interest in Mullahs etc but they will take interest
in music. Especially Qawalis are doing a great job. I want to ask them how
many singers are spreading the message of Islam through music? How
many? Please tell me the percentage by doing a survey. Then I want to
ask them is music contributing more to the spread of good or to the
spread of evil? Again I would say please tell me that by doing a survey.
Don’t just base an argument on others stupid talk or hypothesis. Act like a
Man, bring clear stats. The next question is do our young generation listen
to Qawalis? If yes then what percent of it listen to Qawali and sofiyana
kalaam? Infact Qawalis are THE MOST dangerous. Even more dangerous
than the Indian love songs. Many of them have Shirkia lyrics. It is the
effect of Tabla and other musical instruments that we don't even care
about the lyrics and keep listening to songs and qawalis ignoring
whatever is in the lyrics. Such is the effect of music on our minds. It
intoxicates our minds. The sad thing to note is why this Music runs in our
veins? Why not the Zikr of Allah Almighty‐The Creator of all of us‐runs in
our veins? Will Allah ever want us to spread the message of Islam through
something forbidden?
I used to be a Crazy Metal Music fan. I listened to all genres of Metal like
Death, black, gothic, grindcore etc. I used to argue that Metal songs are
doing great job. Sad was my Mental condition indeed. In Metal concerts
people are removing their clothes (including the females). People who
argue that the lyrics of Metal songs are very good and are doing a good
job should go and see a metal concert and they’ll know what good those

songs are doing. Infact people don’t even listen to the lyrics. They are so
intoxicated by the guitar and other instruments that they do immoral
things. The renowned Muslim Da’ee Dr. Zakir Naik explains the use of
music as follow :‐
Music usually intoxicates a person and takes one away from the path of Allah
(swt). Music engages a person’s mind and takes him/her away from the
remembrance of his/her Creator and from realizing and focusing his/her attention
on the purpose of his/her creation. In musical songs, most of the times the
listeners even appreciate illogical, incorrect and blasphemous matter and
content. A person will realize this when he starts pondering over the meaning of
many Hindi and English songs, lyrics and ghazals. Here we find that it is because
of music that the person’s mind is intoxicated and the person deviates from the
straight path. And Allah Knows the Best.
Let us analyze a bit what Dr.Zakir Naik said and what good music is
contributing :‐

So using this rule and permission of ‘Dil’. I can love any Na‐Mehram girl I
want while rejecting the teachings of my Quran and my beloved
Prophet(pbuh)? The singer forgot to mention that his wicked heart might
allow it but our Pure Religion doesn’t allow that(before marriage).
Ofcourse you can love your wife. But who listens this song for his wife?
6‐ Tera mukhra haseen jadu kar gaya
Ye dil le gaya meri jaan

hint of dignity in his heart wont approve it.

8‐ Neeli neeli aankho ko mjse chupa lo

Ah! Only if this tansgressor had ever read the Glorious Quran Surah Noor
Verse 30 : "Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and
guard their modesty."
9‐ Kabhi to nazar milao Kabhi to kareeb ao

From where did this Sufi poet derive this concept of pleasing the

favourite qawali. What concept is this qawali putting forward? Is Allah

Almighty lying(nauzbillah) in the Glorious Quran in Surah Asr Chapter
103:
“By (the Token of) Time (through the ages),Verily Man is in loss,Except
such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the
mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.”
Allah Almighty swears by Time and says Man is in Loss except those who
do righteous deeds and do daawa and be patient and this qawali is telling
us that the main point is to please the ‘Mehboob’ and God will forgive
even if we pray two nafal. Well that’s another issue that Allah Almighty
can forgive any Muslim he wants(that’s another issue who truly is called a
Muslim) but according to the Quran we Muslims are bound to act on what
Allah Almighty orders us to. So this qawali is spreading a clear cut wrong
concept of the message of the Glorious Quran.(Astaghfirula)
So this is the truth. This is what music is contributing! And these are just a
few. I know people might say here that I am putting forward bad songs
and they might like to show me a lot of songs with good lyrics. I know
there are songs with meaningful lyrics because I used to listen to music a
lot and was the top supporter of it being halaal. All I am trying to tell here
is the fact that when something is said along with the use of musical
instruments, how deep we get influenced by it and knowing that the lyrics
are blasphemic and illogical and promoting fornication, even then we
neglect them. Just because we like the music of such a song. And these
are just the audio script. We all know what would be in the video of such
songs.
The point which should be noted is that once a person start pondering
over the meaning of these songs, how astray would he/she be lead. The
message contained in such songs could easily lead one astray who has
never read the Glorious Quran with understanding. The result of these
songs is infront of us.The concept of dating becoming common in Pakistan
is infront of our eyes. The concept of boyfriend/girlfriend is infront of our
eyes.So these are some of the minor effects of music.

People might also argue here that Music is used as a therapy and cure in
many hospitals especially for abnormal and mentally upset children. If
only we all read the Glorious Quran with understanding we come to know
that one can even eat forbidden(haram) food if one is forced by necessity.
Allah Almighty says in the following verse:‐
O ye who believe! Eat of the good things that We have provided for
you, and be grateful to Allah, if it is Him ye worship.
He hath only forbidden you dead meat, and blood, and the flesh of
swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides
that of Allah. But if one is forced by necessity, without willful
disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For
Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful.
In this ayat using the forbidden stuff has been allowed on three
conditions. One, that it really is a necessity, for eg, one is dying because of
hunger or thirst, or there is a danger for life because of some disease and
in this case there is no cure or nothing available except the forbidden
food or stuff then one can eat them or use them. Secondly one should not
have the intention to break the rule of Allah Almighty. Thirdly one should
not cross the limits of use. For eg, if a few quantity of the
forbidden(haram) thing is enough to save life or act as a cure for someone
then one should not use them more than that. (Tafheem-Al-Quran by
Syed Abu’al’Ala Madudi)
Similarly Alcohal has some uses and is used in medicines. So if that is the
only available medicine which can save the patients life then one can
even take it. But using this argument and saying that Alcohal is halaal and
one can drink it is a foolish thing to say. Similarly if Music is the only cure
of something and there is no other cure in the whole world except it, then
one can use it. But again using this argument and arguing why music is
haraam then, Its foolish!

People have confusion that at that time only ‘Daff’ was there so it was
allowed. From where did they derive this information, I don’t know. It
seems like they never cared to study the Islamic history. They say if
guitar, tabla etc would have been at that time then they would have been
allowed too. Brothers and sisters should know that at that time various
musical instruments were there and not only ‘Duff’ but only it was
allowed. That’s why our beloved Prophet(pbuh) said that use of MUSICAL
INSTRUMENTS will be considered legal by some of the people amongst
Muslims.
Narrated Abu Amir or Abu Malik Al Ashari that he heard the Prophet saying,
"From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal
sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the
use of musical instruments {ma'aazif}, as lawful..”.
So he didn’t say that use of so and so instrument which was only present
at that time are haraam and will be considered legal in future. The word
16‐02‐08 Page 30
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED

in the Hadith is ma’azif. Ma'aazif ‐ according to correct Arabic usage ‐
indicates a specific number of things: (a) musical instruments, (b) the
sounds of those musical instruments (music) and (c) singing to musical
accompaniment. Now doesn’t guitar, tabla, dhol etc come under the
category of (a) MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS, (b) SOUND OF MUSICAL
INSTRUMENTS, (c) MUSICAL ACCOMPANIMENT?
Why is ‘Duff’ allowed and why are other instruments not allowed? If you
read and analyze the Islamic history you will get the answer of this.
Different scholars have different view on this. Some say that duff can be
used as music. Some say that use of the "duff" (tambourine) is permitted
in Islam for a practical purpose (such as establishing a simple beat for
exercise, rowing, and other labors), but not to be done by a Muslim for
entertainment or idleness. In such instances, it must not be played as
music, such as by enhancing rhythm, whistling a tune and whatnot. Ibn al‐
Qayyim said in Ighaathat al‐Lahfaan (1/256) that the prohibition against
the use of instruments refers to "all kinds of things used for
entertainment."
According to the Sunnah, females can sing and beat the duff on the two
'Eids (specific Muslim celebrations) and to announce a Muslim wedding
amongst themselves, and their voices shouldn't be raised loud enough or
near enough to be heard by the men.
"Ma'aazif refers to singing and musical instruments. The Prophet (peace
and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us that at the end of time there
will come a people who will allow these things just as they will allow
alcohol, zina and silk. This is one of the signs of his Prophethood, for all of
this has happened. The hadeeth indicates that [musical instruments] are
haram (prohibited), and condemns those who say they are halal
16‐02‐08 Page 31

(permissible), just as it condemns those who say that alcohol and zina are
allowed. The aayaat and ahaadeeth that warn against singing and musical
instruments are many indeed. Whoever claims that Allaah has allowed
singing and musical instruments is lying and is committing a great evil. We
ask Allaah to keep us from obeying our desires and the Shaytaan. Even
worse and more seriously sinful than that are those who say it is
mustahabb. Undoubtedly this stems from ignorance about Allaah and His
Religion; it is insolent blasphemy against Allaah and lying about His Laws.
What is mustahabb (recommended) is to beat on the daff [simple hand
drum] at weddings. This is mustahabb for women only, in order to
announce the wedding and to distinguish it from fornication. There is
nothing wrong with women singing amongst themselves, accompanied by
the daff, so long as the songs contain no words that encourage evil or
distract people from their duties. It is also a condition that this should
take place among women only, and there should be no mixing with men. It
should also not cause any annoyance or disturbance to neighbours. What
some people do, of amplifying such singing with loudspeakers is evil,
because of the disturbance it causes to other Muslims, neighbours and
others. It is not permissible for women, in weddings or on other occasions,
to use any instrument other than the daff, such as the oud, violin, rebab
(stringed instrument) and so on. This is evil, and the only concession that
women are given is that they may use the daff.
We see great melodies in Junaid Jamshed naats and other Islamic songs at
Peace tv with great lyrics. Some of these songs don't have music except
duff. These songs have Natural musical effects like that of the rain water,
waterfall, wind etc. Such natural effects can be used because they are not
created by someone’s hand and so don’t come under the category of
human made musical instruments. So a person who is addicted to
music(like I used to be) could replace those with such songs. He/she will
get a good message through their lyrics as well as be safe from musical
instruments.

Q.6‐ Well we have internet and Tv. Just like we can use
internet for good and bad purpose and Tv for watching a
good channel or a bad channel, similarly can't we use
music for a good purpose?
Answer‐ The answer to this question is absolutely simple and clear cut.
People who have a broad intellect will insha Allah accept it. The fact is
that we have not been told in the Ahadith about the word TV and
Internet. But we have been told in the Ahadith about MUSICAL
INSTRUMENTS AND MUSIC. So we can raise the question for using Tv and
Internet for a good purpose. BUT! When making musical instruments and
using them has been declared haraam by our beloved Prophet(pbuh), as
we can see from the authentic Ahadith, then using them for a good
purpose comes next. For example we all know that Riba(Suud, interest) is
absolutely clearcut Haraam. Yet if someone takes the money of Riba and
builds a mosque. Can that person give the excuse that “I am using the
money of Riba for a good use therefore I am doing right. I am building a
mosque”. Would you approve of that idea for what so ever purpose? You
know the answer. Quite simple. Isn't it?
Q.7‐Can't we apply Ijtihaad on this issue? Lets not go
back 1400 years ago. Lets reform Islam according to this
age and era. Lets make Islam applicable according to this
age and era!
Answer‐ We have to understand that Islam is a complete code of life. The
Holy Qur'an describes Islam as Deen al‐Haq, or the true way of life. This
Deen of ours has been completed and we are to Obey Allah and his
Messenger (pbuh) in any condition, any era, and in any circumstance.
Allah says in Holy Qur'an chapter5 (Al‐Mai'idah) verse3
"...This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My
Favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islâm as your religion..."

Allah further says in chapter6 (Surah Al‐An'am) verse115:
"And the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and
justice. None can change His Words. And He is the AllHearer, the All-
Knower."
When Allah and His Messenger have made their stance clear about this
issue then who are we to talk about reforming it. If we do try to reform it
then we have to know our position.
It is mentioned in Holy Qur'an:
“...those who do not make decisions according to Allah's laws, are
kafir” -(5:44)
“.... those who do not make decisions according to Allah's laws, are
zalim (mushrik)” -(5:45)
“..... those who do not make decisions according to Allah's laws, are
fasiq (disobedient”) - (5:47)
Further it is mentioned in Holy Qur'an in chapter33 (Surah Ahzab)
verse36:
Islam has been completed and Allah the Almighty has already planned
whats good and whats bad for us. Those who think that they can plan
their life pattern better than Allah Almighty, the choice is with them.
Actually this is a question not common among the common people. But it
is a question raised by people who want to reform Islam and haven't fully
studied Islam. Such an example is of Shaoib Mansoor. I really respected
this man. When I first watched his movie I really loved it. Believe me I
used to argue with people and refer them this movie. But then I started
pondering over what he described about music in the movie. That led me
16‐02‐08 Page 34
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED
PRAISE BE

to a research. Infact I should thank Shaoib Mansoor that his movie
somehow turned out to be a source for me to know that Music is haraam.
He expresses his views on the introduction of his movie on the movie site
as follows:
“….He (Junaid Jamshed) announced to leave music because he was
convinced that music is haraam. I was really sad after hearing this news. I
can never believe that Allah will ever hate two of His most beautiful
granted things in this world i‐e Music and Painting. I feel that a confused
person like Junaid Jamshed has no right to lead astray thousand of his
fans….Let us bring Islam into today's era. The greatest duty of Islam is
that we make Islam applicable according to this age and era."
This saying of our great movie director(or whatever he is) is what our
beloved Prophet(pbuh) said, that among the muslims some will consider
playing of musical instruments as halaal. Yes. We are the ones who made
him great in the eyes of people. What is the status of this man in Islam? I
mean if we look at his saying that “I can never believe that Allah will ever
hate two of His most beautiful granted things in this world i‐e Music and
Painting.” It means that what he thinks to be beautiful is also beautiful in
the eyes of Allah Almighty and his liking is surely the liking of Allah
Almighty and whatever is in Quran and Authentic Ahadith about music is
wrong? (Nauzbilla). Then he says that Junaid Jamshed has led astray
thousand of his fans by leaving music and singing(Astaghfirula). He’s
totally got it wrong. Infact he’s the one leading millions of people astray
by telling them through his movie that Music is halaal. I don't understand
that none has called him to an open debate and challenged him to prove
through Quran and AUTHENTIC Ahadith that music is halaal. Maybe
someone had but I don't know.
People don’t realize that Islam is complete and cannot be changed or
reformed. They misunderstand the meaning of Ijtihaad and try to add
new things and customs in Islam. Islam is for all ages and till the Day of
Judgement. So those who think that Islam should be applied according to
16‐02‐08 Page 35
MUSIC‐ALLOWED OR PROHIBITED

a particular era are absolutely confused and are in plain error. Infact a
particular era should be made according to Islamic principles and laws
and regulations. One shouldn’t change Islam according to his/her life.
Instead his/her life should be changed according to Islam. Arguing that it
is a modern era and everyone is doing this and that so why not I do that is
nothing but confusion. We are confused about our purpose in this world.
Sadly we don’t have time to study the Glorious Quran with understanding
because of our so‐called ‘BUSY’ routine. People just listen to some Mufti
and Scholar and don’t even check whether whatever he told is authentic
or not. Lots of activities are going around in our country that a person
who has never thought of reading his Manual to spend life in this world
i‐e The Glorious Quran, will easily be deluded by these activities and
would think that whatever is happening on a majority level is right and is
according to Islam.
Only if we ponder for some time about our purpose in this world, we’ll
realize how wrong we and our nation is going. We’ll only realize this fact
if we read the Glorious Quran with deep understanding and act upon it
and the Authentic sayings of our beloved Prophet(pbuh).

PRAISE BE
TO ALLAH
We all know what happens on a music concert. Intermingling of sexes is
so common everywhere in our country so one could imagine what kind of
intermingling would be on a Music concert. People are dancing on the
songs including the females. If you ask our young generation, sadly most
of them would say they love it. But when it comes to their own spouses
and sisters, they will have a different point of view. What kind of justice is
that? Why hypocrisy? Why the double standards? Sadly in our country
Pakistan lot of immoral activities are going on and a few open their
mouth to stop them.
Let there arise out of you a band of people inviting to all that is good,
enjoining what is right, and forbidding what is wrong: They are the
ones to attain felicity.
One should know that we will be held responsible for all such immoral
activities and will be punished for not forbidding wrong things. One
should atleast open his/her mouth and tell the people around them
whats wrong and whats right.
Allah (SWT) says in the Glorious Quran :‐

Curses were pronounced on those among the Children of Israel who
rejected Faith, by the tongue of David and of Jesus the son of Mary:
because they disobeyed and persisted in excesses.
Nor did they (usually) forbid one another the evil which they
committed: evil indeed were the deeds which they did.
We should all recite the Glorious Quran with understanding and the
Authentic Ahadith of our Beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Just try to
read one page of Quran and one hadith daily with understanding and see
the change in your life.
Allah Almighty says in the following verse :‐
Whoever submits his whole self to Allah, and is a doer of good, has
grasped indeed the most trustworthy hand-hold: and with Allah rests
the End and Decision of (all) affairs.
[SURAH LUQMAN‐CHAPTER 31 VERSE 22]
The question which might arise here in people’s mind could be that what
if I go to some hotel or some place where music is being played and its
difficult to stop it. Will I be held responsible for hearing that music?
Shaykh Ibn Taymiyah (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: Concerning
(music) which a person does not intend to listen to, there is no prohibition
or blame, according to scholarly consensus. Hence blame or praise is
connected to listening, not to hearing. The one who listens to the Qur'aan
will be rewarded for it, whereas the one who hears it without intending or
wanting to will not be rewarded for that, because actions are judged by
intentions. The same applies to musical instruments which are forbidden: if
a person hears them without intending to, that does not matter. (al‐
Majmoo', 10/78).
Imaam Maalik (may Allaah have mercy on him) was asked about playing the
drum or flute, if a person happens to hear the sound and enjoy it whilst he
is walking or sitting. He said: He should get up if he finds that he enjoys it,
unless he is sitting down for a need or is unable to get up. If he is on the

road, he should either go back or move on. (al‐Jaami' by al‐Qayrawaani,
262). He (may Allaah have mercy on him) said: "The only people who do
things like that, in our view, are faasiq's." (Tafseer al‐Qurtubi, 14/55).
MAY ALLAH (SWT) GIVE US ALL GUIDANCE AND STRENGTH TO BE
AMONGST THOSE WHO FORBID WHATS WRONG AND ENJOIN WHAT IS
RIGHT. AMEEN.
CONCLUSION
Again I would say as I said in the introduction that my intention of writing
this article is nothing but telling my brothers and sisters whats right.
Neither is my intention to convice anyone forcefully that music is haraam
or to impose on anyone forcefully. Everything needs steps. It needs to be
done with ‘Hikmah’ and proper planning. That’s why I kept on saying that
read the Glorious Quran with deep Understanding and Authentic Ahadith.
This is the first step. Then accepting the commands of our Creator
ALLAH(swt) earnestly. That is the second step. This includes praying five
times a day and many others. Following these steps will yield great results
insha Allah and automatically such evils like music will be removed from
our lives. Islam is not just a religion. It’s a complete code of life. Its not
like a bakery shop that you go into it and buy two cakes and five pasteries
of your choice and leave the other cakes and pasteries and return home.
No! This is not Islam. Islam is a way of life which needs to be followed
completely. You can’t just pick one or two good things of it and ignore the
others and do forbidden things. As Allah Almighty says in the Glorious
Quran :‐

So this is the beauty and true nature of Islam that you enter into it whole
heartedly and then see the change. I would consider myself successful if
even one out of a billion people gets convinced with my article and starts
reciting Quran with understanding and Ahadith and leaves music insha
Allah. If none got convinced even then I would consider myself successful
because I did it because I am told by my Almighty Allah in my life manual
i‐e Glorious Quran, to enjoin whats right and forbid whats wrong. Its not
me and sinners like me, it is Allah Almighty who puts in the hearts of His
creation and gives guidance. We human beings can only convey the
message. I Pray Allah(swt) opens everyones heart and minds and guides
all. Ameen.
Secondly honestly telling all my brothers and sisters the greatest reason
that I found music being haraam is because truly it takes one away from
the remembrance of Allah Almighty. No wonder why so many people who
are offerring prayer five times a day are yet doing a lot of immoral things
like lying, cheating, talking on cell phones with ‘Girl friends’ etc. No
wonder that their prayer is not saving them from shameful and immoral
acts. No wonder why so many people complain that their prayers are not
being accepted by Allah(swt). You will agree that if you earnestly follow
Islam and offer duties prescribed by Allah (Swt) from the core of your
heart. If we ponder for sometime about our creation and purpose in this
world we’ll for sure realize that such Satan handiworks are a great
distraction for us in remembering our task in this world. Allah Almighty
says in the Glorious Quran :‐
The (material) things which ye are given are but the conveniences of
this life and the glitter thereof; but that which is with Allah is better
and more enduring: will ye not then be wise?
What is the life of this world but amusement and play? but verily the
Home in the Hereafter,- that is life indeed, if they but knew.

[SURAH-AL-ANKABUT-CHAPTER 29-VERSE 64]
This reason is truly the biggest influence for me that I left music. All other
logics and reasons are true but this one reason is enough for a good
muslim. Its really a heart shattering time which our Muslim nation is
going through. I mean, people need logics and arguments to be convinced
about music and other things being haraam. Shame on us. Is this the
Ummah for which our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) worked so
hard. We blindly believe on what the newspaper tells us but question
what Quran and Hadith tells us? What has happened to the Muslim
nation. Please brothers and sisters think for a while. Where is this Muslim
nation going? Is the Ummat of the greatest Prophet(pbuh) worthy of
dancing on music? If it is then why didn’t any companion(male or female)
of the beloved Prophet(pbuh) did that? Why don’t we find any evidence
from any AUTHENTIC Islamic history book that the companions of Holy
Prophet(pbuh) ever did that? Can we expect that such nation will ever
produce someone like Hazrat Umar(May Allah be pleased with him) or
someone like Hazrat Ali(May Allah be pleased with him) or Hazrat
Aisha(May Allah be pleased with her) and Hazrat Fatima(May Allah be
pleased with her) and other great companions and Islamic heroes? We
still have time to ponder. Please think before its too late.
For those who still are confused about music being halaal or haraam. Ok
fine. No problem. Why don’t they personally research on it and tell
everyone what have they derived from Quran and Sahih Hadeeth. And if
they think its halaal. Then please bring their proof. They have time to
research for some movie’s ranking on the websites and research which
musical album is on top these days. But don’t have time to research what
our religion says about music? But make sure you research from Quran
and Sahih hadith. Not from some Website or Reformist Islamic scholar. I
repeat‐ NOT FROM SOME WEBSITE OR REFORMIST ISLAMIC SCHOLAR!
Please just don’t go and type at google.com. You will find many articles
there about music in which people have tried to prove music as halaal. So

your time will be wasted. Just research from Quran and Hadith or some
Authentic Islamic history book. I am again and again using the word
Authentic and highlighting it because Quran is the most Authentic book
on the face of earth, then Sahih Ahadith(as accepted by Ulemas), so any
books beside these might not be fully authentic so first confirm their
authenticity and then read and research. Otherwise you might (God
forbid) result in something which has nothing to do with our religion.
