2.2.3 Crane operation

• The automated electrode handling crane equipped with one positioning lifting bale will
be used to perform the following main duties:
• Lift batches of deposited cathodes from two adjacent electrowinning cells and transfer
them to the stripping area. Consecutively returning with stripped cathodeblanks to
deposit them in the spaces of the cells that were vacated by harvesting cathodes.
This operation will be cyclical and fully automatic
• Lift anodes from two adjacent cells for draining and cleaning. Periodic, semi-
automatic operation with lifting bales.
• Pick up, install and remove jumper frame for cell maintenance in semi-automatic
operation mode.
• General maintenance duties including the removal and replacement of damaged
cells. Occasional, manual operation with hooks of the auxiliary hoists and other
equipment as required.

Cathodes will be pulled from the two adjacent cells in groups of 40 for washing and
stripping. Replacement stripped blanks, also in pre-spaced groups of 40, will be returned
by the tankhouse cranes for reinsertion into the electrowinning cells, before any additional
cathodes are pulled.

The automated electrode handling crane will perform the following operational sequences
with no interruptions between any set of consecutive tasks:

• Crane transfer from previous harvested cells to new cells to be harvested

• Crane bale movement to pick up a specific third of cathodes in two adjacent cells
• Hood lifting movement above two adjacent cells
• Open drip trays
• Picking up cathodes
• Closing drip trays
• Relocate hoods
• Crane drive to inlet CSM
• Open drip trays
• Deposit of 40 cathodes to the inlet rack of the CSM.
• Empty drip tray
• Crane transfer to the outlet rack (blanks) of the CSM.
• Picking up 40 blanks
• Closing drip tray
• Crane travels to cells
• Crane bale fine positionning movement in order to prepare the deposit of a specific
third of blanks in two adjacent cells
• Hood lifting movement above two adjacent cells
• Open drip trays
• Deposit of 40 blanks
• Relocate hoods and close drip trays
