6.0 ELEMENT REPLACEMENT
1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION
The NL Module element is designed for long life. Depending on loading and
condition of the air system, NL Module elements can last 10 – 15 years. The The NL Module Filter is a coalescing type, self-cleaning filter/separator designed

bottom of the tank, where it can be removed through an optional automatic drain
valve.
NOTE: Depending on location, it may be helpful to disconnect the NL Module
completely from the air system and lay it horizontally on the floor. Differential Pressure Gauge – The differential pressure gauge is used to
measure the pressure drop across the filter. The pressure drop, under normal

observed. The inlet air temperature to the NL Module must not exceed 150°F
7.0 TECHNICAL INFORMATION (66°C).
Foundations - The module can be installed on any flat, level floor of sufficient
strength to support its weight. Mounting holes are provided in the base of the
legs.

WARNING
NL Modules must be operated below the maximum allowable working
pressure and maximum allowable working temperature. Failure to do so will
void the Ingersoll Rand warranty and may result in severe injury or death.

NOTE: All dimensions shown in inches.

Connections – Refer to TECHNICAL INFORMATION TABLE for connection 5.0 SPARE PARTS
sizes for all NL Modules models.
Drains - A suitable drain must be fitted to the bottom of the filter housing.
Automatic drain models should be inspected regularly to ensure correct drain
operation.
Pre-installation - System Cleaning - New and existing compressed air systems
should be purged prior to installation of the NL Module. This should remove from
the system any loose dirt, rust, or carbon particles which might otherwise flow
into the element. With older air systems, varying degrees of oil and water may
have accumulated in the air piping. Purging older systems will reduce these
contaminants, allowing the NL Module to begin operation without a preloading of
oil and water.

4.0 OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

CAUTION
When introducing air into the NL Module, the air must be introduced slowly.
Failure to do so may rupture the element and reduce filtration efficiency.

Initial Start - Upon initial start all inlet and discharge piping should be carefully
checked for leaks. In addition, the condensate drain and tank sample
connections should be checked for leaks.
Routine Operation – The NL Modules require very little maintenance.
Periodically check the automatic drain to insure proper operation. In addition,
period inspection of the differential pressure gauge is recommended to insure
pressure differential remains below 3 psid.
Extended Shutdown Periods - If the air system is to be shutdown for a long
period of time the N.L. Module's tank must be drained of any moisture
accumulation. When the system is put back into service the NL Module's piping
connections should be rechecked for leaks.

CAUTION
A sudden increase in pressure differential on the element may cause
accumulated oil to be forced through the filter element. Therefore, sudden
blow-downs must be avoided. Reduce the system pressure gradually during
shutdowns.
