Multi-genre Writing Project

In completion of your Literary Circles, you (as a group) will be composing a project
in which you will use multi-genre writing to show your understanding of the novel.

What is multi-genre writing? “Multi-genre writing is the discovery of ‘truth

through fiction’”.

In other words: A multi-genre paper is composed of many genres and sub-genres,

each piece self contained, making a point of its own, yet connected by theme or
topic and sometimes by languages, images, and content. In addition to many genres,
a multi-genre paper may also contain many voices, not just the author’s. The trick is
to make such a paper hang together.

In common terms: A multi-genre paper is taking many different forms of writing

and combining them into one, coherent piece. All of the different genres are
written about the same topic and focus around a central theme.

Assignment:
You and your group are going to compose a multi-genre writing project that focuses
around the novel you read for literary circles. Listed below are the criteria for the
project.

• The project is to be typed (ALL OF IT!)

• You must have a cover page that includes the name of your novel, a title of
your project, the names of your group members and the hour you are in
class.
• The minimum length is 8 pages… try not to make it more than 10.
• You must use at least 6-7 different genres. On the back of this sheet you
will find a list of 69 genres. Choose from this list.
• BE CREATIVE! I do expect this to look nice and by nice I mean you must
decorate. (Always keeping in mind that your teacher will be reading it.)
• I am, as always, looking for neatness and completeness.

If you look at the list and are confused or curious about an unfamiliar genre…
please ask me individually.
