Objectives
Every project is carried out with some predefined
objectives. Objectives of my project were as follows under:

 Occupational Safety and Health.


 Causes of safety and health problems at the Work Place.
 Provisions to Prevent Accidents in the Work Place.
 Safety and Health Programs in Organizations.

Introduction

According to the survey conducted by the International


traffic Organization (ITO), more than 125 million peoples
worldwide are victims of accidents and in a single year. Of
these, approximately 220000 peoples die and about 10
millions are seriously disabled because of accidents at the
roads caused by the carelessness of the driver. It is
important to identify the causes of accidents. After
identifying the causes of accidents, organizations should
take steps to prevent them.

Causes of Safety and Health problem at
workplace
Here are some causes of Safety and Health problem at
workplace:
1. Lack of Education and Training: Most of the
organizations do not educate about the usage and
maintenance of machinery and chemicals, it can lead
to serious injuries.
2. Human Errors: some employees are careless and
tend to make mistakes. This can result in injuries and
can sometimes prove to be fatal.
3. Technical failure: Accidents at the workplace can
also occur due to technical errors. The machinery
should be thoroughly inspected regularly.
4. Stress/Work-load: Sometimes stress/work-load
also results into accident.
5. Nature of industry: Some industries by their very
nature are harmful for employees working there.
Asbestos is the largest known cause of occupational
diseases, causing asbestosis, lung cancer, and
mesothelioma.

Provisions to prevent Accidents in the
workplace

It is very important for any organization to ensure safe


working conditions in order to prevent accidents at the
workplace. There are some provisions which says that there
should be following things for the:

Health of workers
1. Cleanliness, Disposable of wastes and effluents.
2. Ventilation, Prevention of dust and fumes, artificial
humidification and overcrowding.
3. Providing adequate lighting, drinking water, etc.

Safety of workers
1. Fencing of machinery; working on or near machinery in
motion.
2. Revolving machinery, pressure plants, floors, stairs,
means, pits, pumps, and excessive weights should be
carefully protected.
3. Employees should be given precautionary equipments in
case of fire, etc.

Measures for the prevention of accidents in
the workplace

Here are some measures that are taken by the firm to


prevent accident in the workplace:

1. Educating and training the employees: safety education


develops safety awareness among employees and ensures
safe work conditions and improved performance.
2. Machine re-conditioning: machine reconditioning refers
to the regular check-up of the machine before the
occurrence of the actual problem. This will reduce the
possibilities of technical failures.
3. Frequent inspections: this refers to the physical
inspection done by the management to ensure that the
infrastructure is out of any kind of damage.
4. Regular breaks: apart from all the things, regular breaks
are given to the workers to provide them mental and
physical rest. With the help of this technique workers can
work more and with less workload.

Conclusion

Hence, I can finally conclude that accidents at the


workplace caused by the carelessness of the employer or
the employee. It is important to identify the causes of
accidents are lack of education and training, human errors,
technical failure, stress/workload, nature of industry, etc.
after identifying the causes of accidents, organization
should take the necessary steps to prevent them.

Recommendation
Here are some recommendations given by the firm to
ensure reduction in accidents/burnout’s:

1. Make job more interesting by teaching new


techniques of doing it.
2. Ensure job rotation among the
workers/labors so that they will not get bore of
doing the same job again and again.
3. Retrain the worker instead of hiring the new
talent so that your productivity will not get affected
and this will keep satisfaction among the workers.
4. Appreciate the workers for their work. By
this workers will get job satisfaction and can
concentrate more on their work, etc.
