Accordingly the syllabus was framed and finalized after incorporating feedbacks from experts from academ-
ics, corporate sector and banks. After a due screening process, the first batch was admitted in July 2009. The
National Assessment and Accreditation Committee team that visited Gauhati University earlier this year highly
appreciated the endeavor of the two departments. We believe that organizations that will come forward to re-
cruit the products of this joint endeavor of the two departments will also get to appreciate our effort.

Gauhati University is the oldest university in the North-east India. It was established under the Gauhati Univer-
sity Act 1947 (Assam Act, 1947). The first court meeting was held on 26th Jan. , 1948 at the Sudmerson Hall
of Cotton College, Gauhati. Hence, 26th Jan. has been observed as the foundation day of Gauhati University.
Initially, it functioned from the city centre. It shifted to its present location in 1955-56.
It is located at Jalukbari in Guwahati. The campus area has been developed in a small township, now known as
Gopinath Bordoloi Nagar. The University is located 10 kms from Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and 10
kms from Guwahati Railway Station.
The Gauhati University is affiliated to the Association of the Universities, which is the affiliating body of the
Commonwealth Universities. It is also the largest University in the region, with 194 colleges offering under-
graduate and post-graduate courses in Medicine, Engineering, Science, Commerce and Arts and a number of
other vocational courses under it. There are about 5000 students in the University with around 1500 of them
residing in the hostels. Besides the residential quarters of the teachers, officers and other employees of the
University, there are 20 halls of residence for University students. The necessary Civic amenities such as health
services, water supply, street lighting, internal roads, guest-house cum clubs, post and telegraph office, a
branch of State Bank of India, ATM, canteens, a market, parks, play grounds, auditorium etc. are all provided
within the campus.
