In this lecture, Omid Bürgin talks about his experience in a very different job market:
Making quality recordings on the field.
The lecture focuses on political, ethical, ethnomusicological issues as well as the
technical aspects involved. In the first part of the lecture, working procedures are
exposed, such as preliminary research, paper work, and working with federal
agencies. The second part focuses on technical setups, especially different
microphone techniques involved and how they will translate into a final product.

Omid Bürgin, recording engineer, producer and composer, has recorded

Brazilian Indian Tribes, such as the Mehinaku in the Xingu in very remote
jungle villages. These recordings have been used for didactical purposes,
archives and also for his own compositions. He has appeared at the
Haus der Kulturen der Welt, integrating the field recordings with his own
electronic music compositions. He owns a recording complex in São
Paulo, Brazil and teaches regularly on recording techniques and recording
studio design at NYU, Manhattan School of Music and other institutions.
