ICT Manager
Accountable to: ARVP
Profile
The appointed ICT Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the provision of ICT services as
defined in AMU documents like the AMU ICT Service Catalog to the AMU community, with respect to
their operational availability, their development and implementation. His/her responsibilities include
• Management and planning of the development of the ICT Services and ICT team at AMU
• Maintaining and contributing vision about ICT development, technology and cost-
effectiveness to AMU management
• Working with management to develop and adhere to a sustainable ICT Policy for AMU
• Providing clear and structured information about ICT Services to the AMU ICT user
community
• Carrying end responsibility for the operational availability and performance of AMU ICT
services
• Staff management of the ICT team
• Arranging the enabling infrastructure for the team (rooms, workstations, tools, trainings)
• Steering and directing the individuals of the team in their respective responsibilities

ICT Consultant / Information Technologist
Accountable to: ICT Manager
Profile
The appointed ICT Consultant / Information Technologist is responsible for the support of the ICT
Manager in terms of ICT technology, policy, organization, and implementation. In addition he/she
will assist the ICT manager in his duties, and deputize for him when required. His/her responsibilities
include
• Performs preparatory studies about ICT technology, ICT organization and practice, as
required to support the ICT Manager
• Works out the detailed proposals that the ICT Manager must bring up towards management
• Works out the planning of ICT implementations, and maintains the overview of deadlines
• Verifies any proposed new implementation against the ICT Policy, and advises in conflicting
cases about the best way forward
• Builds and maintains relationships with comparable university IT departments in and outside
Ethiopia, in order to have AMU benefit from their experience
• Verifies the agreed quality criteria for the effectiveness and performance of ICT services,
alerts when quality levels are not attained, and proposes measures to re-attain them
• Manages the ICT documentation and sees to it that all actors keep it up to date

Network engineer
Accountable to: ICT Manager
Job profile
The appointed Network Engineer will be in charge of the implementation of all aspects of the AMU
LAN. This includes
• Designing the required additional cabling systems between/within buildings (copper and
fiber), to expand the network as desired,
• Adapting the AMU network design at times that is necessary, if needed with assistance by an
AMU partner company,
• Configuring and managing Cisco Catalyst Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, following the existing
and defined network architecture,
• Configuring and managing Cisco firewall equipment (ASA, PIX) for Internet security,
• Configuring, managing and troubleshooting the AMU Internet connection, including
bandwidth management, browser and proxy configuration,
• Monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization of the use of the network and the access to
its central services,
• Participate in network-related procurement issues,
• Maintaining up-to-date documentation about all of the above for other ICT staff at AMU.

System engineer
Accountable to: ICT Manager
Profile
The appointed System Engineer will be in charge of the implementation of ICT services.
The responsibilities include
• ICT software product installation, configuration, and customization, amongst others on SUN
Solaris systems in the Data Centre, and on Windows 2003 servers there, and on Windows
client systems that access the central services over the network
• Implementing and maintaining system and software projects, like remote distribution of
software to workstations, data sharing, and automated virus signature updating on all LAN-
connected PCs
• Implementing and maintaining Intranet servers, and ensuring an appropriate web contents
management environment for the Administrators in charge of content,
• Implementing and maintaining other central and web-based services such as asset
management, incident management, special software as requested by faculties,
• Studying and implementing other system software and user software as required,
• Troubleshooting and solving the problems that may occur with the above systems,
• Maintaining up-to-date documentation about all of the above for other ICT staff at AMU.

Network Administrator / Network Professional
Accountable to: ICT Manager
Job profile
• Designing the required additional cabling systems between/within buildings (copper and
fiber), to expand the network as desired,
• Configuring and managing Cisco Catalyst Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, following the existing
and defined network architecture – if possible and where necessary under directives and
guidance of the Network Engineer
• Assisting the Network Engineer in configuring and managing Cisco firewall equipment (ASA)
for Internet security,
• Configuring, managing and troubleshooting the AMU Internet connection, including
bandwidth management,
• Monitoring, troubleshooting, traffic analysis and optimization of the use of the network,
• Participate in network-related procurement issues,
• Maintaining up-to-date documentation about all of the above for other ICT staff at AMU.

System Administrator / Internet Service Professional 1

Profile
The appointed System and network Administrator 1 will be in charge of the implementation of ICT
services.
The responsibilities include
• ICT software product installation, configuration, and customization, amongst others on SUN
Solaris systems in the Data Centre, and on Windows 2003 servers there, and on Windows
client systems that access the central services over the network
• Implementing and maintaining system and software projects, like remote distribution of
software to workstations, data sharing, and automated virus signature updating on all LAN-
connected PCs
• Implementing and maintaining Intranet servers and other central and web-based services,
• Implementing data backup facilities on central services
• Troubleshooting and solving the problems that may occur with the above systems,
• Maintaining up-to-date documentation about all of the above for other ICT staff at AMU.

System and Network Administrator / Internet Service Professional 2
Accountable to: ICT Manager
Job profile
• Support the System Engineer(s) and the Network Engineer) in administrative and
implementation-related tasks
• ICT software product configuration and administration, on Windows 2003 servers, mail
servers, and Windows client systems; including user definition and administration
• Performing periodic backup of data on servers and maintaining adequate administration of
these backups
• Maintaining Intranet servers, and assisting in Faculties’ web contents management
• Administering ICT Centre’s web content
• Administering ICT Centre’s web-based procedures such as asset management, incident
management
• Maintaining up-to-date documentation about all of the above for other ICT staff at AMU
• Handle other duties assigned by the Network Engineer or the System Engineer
Candidates must have a BSc in Computer Science. Computer network knowledge will be essential.

Assistant System engineer / Software Development Professional

Profile
The appointed Assistant System Engineer will assist in the implementation of ICT services.
The responsibilities include
• ICT software product configuration and customization, amongst others on SUN Solaris
systems in the Data Centre, and on Windows 2003 servers there, and on Windows client
systems that access the central services over the network
• Maintaining and administering system and software projects, like remote distribution of
software to workstations, data sharing, and automated virus signature updating on all LAN-
connected PCs
• Maintaining and administering central and web-based services such as asset management,
incident management, special software as requested by faculties,
• Studying and implementing other system software and user software as required,
• Troubleshooting and solving the problems that may occur with the above systems,
• Maintaining up-to-date documentation about all of the above for other ICT staff at AMU.

Senior Maintenance Technician
Accountable to: ICT Manager
Job profile
The appointed Computer Maintenance Technician will be providing the following services:
• Assist and advises users in analyzing and troubleshooting hardware problems on their ICT
equipment
• Performing required hardware maintenance and repair on ICT equipment, notably PC’s,
Printers and Photocopiers
• Request and follow up maintenance spare parts per case; check and report imminent
shortage of parts timely
• Keep record of ICT assets and the hardware maintenance actions performed on them
• Ensures that the standards that AMU sets for the use of its computers are adhered to
• Give training as required

Network technician
Accountable to: ICT Manager
Job profile
• The implementation of the AMU LAN with regard to its physical installation (copper cabling,
fiber cabling, network and equipment racks, patch panel and switch installations, patching),
• Configuring Cisco Catalyst switches and other network equipment following documentation
and directives of the AMU Network Engineer,
• Physical equipment installation including racks and rack-mounted equipment, both in the
Data Centre and in other ICT locations on campus (LAN concentration points, racks),
• The overall electrical and mechanical maintenance of the Data Centre,
• The proper arrangement of all equipment in the Data Centre, the appropriate connectivity of
all equipment there, and the overall clean and professional appearance of the Data Centre
interior,
• Interaction with the ICT suppliers of AMU (including ETC) about quotes, orders and deliveries
• Interaction with ETC whenever there is an ETC service quality issue
• Maintaining up-to-date documentation about all of the above
• Handle other duties assigned by the Network Engineer
Experience requested
• Technical installation of 100Base T and fiber networks, patch panels, racks, conduits,
network and other ICT equipment physical installation,
• Skills in delivering well-organized, well-kept, reliably implemented equipment racks and
cabling,
• Skills in documentation software like Visio and Autocad,
• A total of 3 years experience in the above.
