In 1979, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) published its first ICS Guide to Helicopter/Ship Operations. Since then,
the publication is being constantly revised so that each new edition contains the latest modifications in norms for this type of
operation, as well as updated technology developments applicable to both ships and helicopters.
The guide is primarily intended for ship masters, officers and crew, but also for helicopter pilots involved in this type of
operation and for harbor pilots who more and more frequently use helicopter transfers in pilot operations.
The fourth edition published at the end of 2008 and recently distributed by the ICS includes a CD/ROM version which greatly
facilitates the use of the manual.
