Week 9 (Monday (3/28/2011 to 4/1/2011)

Before the Lesson-

Topic/Subject/Grade: Youth Interventions and Empowerment (Self-


Determination)

Primary Standard of Learning:

C/T 9-12.5- The students will demonstrate knowledge of technologies that support collaboration, personal pursuits,
and productivity.

• Respectfully collaborate with peers, experts, and others to contribute to an electronic community of learning.
• Model responsible use and respect for equipment, resources, and facilities.

Clarification:

Each child will be receiving their core curriculum through a virtual program called APEX. Various students in the class
will be taking various courses. My responsibility is to tailor the virtual learning to the appropriate needs (special
education needs) of the student.

Communication and Collaboration


Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to
support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

Students will:
a. Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and
media.
b. Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.
c. Develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other cultures.
d. Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.

Objective:

Students will receive a 65% or better on all APEX assignments, quizzes, and tests on their daily agenda (calendar).
Students will participate in youth intervention activities for 30 minutes during each class period in order to gain skills
and knowledge for behavioral and social success in the real work, in addition to, obtaining behavioral/ social goals/
objectives within the IEP.

Classroom Diversity:

1st block- Currently, I have five students in my first block class. I have all males, which include two African Americans
and four Caucasians. The student’s disabilities range from Other Health Impairment to Emotional and Behavioral
Disability to Autism Spectrum Disorder.

2nd block- Currently, I have four students in my second block class. I have one female and five males. I have five
Caucasian students and one African American student. The student’s disabilities range from Other Health
Impairment to Emotional and Behavioral Disability to Autism Spectrum Disorder.

3rd block- I have three students during this time, which all happen to be males. I have one African American student
and two Caucasian students. The student’s disabilities range from Other Health Impairment to Emotional and
Behavioral Disability to Autism Spectrum Disorder.

4th block- I have four students in my class during this block : 1 African American male and 3 Caucasian males. The
student’s disabilities range from Other Health Impairment to Emotional and Behavioral Disability to Autism Spectrum
Disorder to a specific Learning Disability (in reading and/ or math).

APEX material (computer/ daily agenda)

Pens and pencils

Project material, if necessary

During the Lesson-

Set:

Get your daily agenda of assignments off the from white desk. Listen to announcements. Prepare yourself and mind
for the day. Log into Apex.

Lesson:

Instruction (APEX)/Independent Practice


Every day the students have various assignments in which they participate on the computer , manually, orally, and/
or kinesthetically. This schedule is in place every day. A more detailed schedule is attached. Individual students
have individual assignments in each individual course.
