Dear Students,
I have enlisted some questions below, chapter-wise according to your syllabus. This is to give
you an idea as to in which forms and what type of questions may be asked. Hope this will help in
your preparation.
As discussed earlier, it is necessary to give equal weightage to examples also. Examples may be
asked from the following topics.
1) Series and parallel operation of SCRs
2) Snubber circuit design
3) All the examples of phase controlled converters
4) All the examples of choppers
5) All the examples of converter based and chopper based dc motor drives.
Out of the above, examples of topics 1, 3 and 5 are more important.
Q–1 Draw and explain basic construction of power diode. Also explain the significance of drift
region.
Q–3 Draw and explain transfer and output characteristics of a power BJT. Also explain
significance of different regions of the characteristics. How does the output characteristic
differ from a low power BJT?
Q–4 Write a short note on Safe Operating Area (SOA) of a power BJT.
Q–5 Explain the following in brief with reference to a power BJT.
1) Quasi Saturation
2) Second Breakdown
