JOHOR BAHRU

MONTHLY TEST 1 (MAC 2011) DATE: 9/3/2011

SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS S PAPER 2 (950/2) DAY:
WEDNESDAY
CLASS: 6AA1 TIME: 7.50 –
8.50 AM

Answer all questions. All necessary working should be shown clearly. Non-exact numerical
answers may be given correct to three significant figures, or one decimal place in the case of
angles in degrees, unless a different level of accuracy is specified in the question.

1 A cooking oil company runs 2 production lines A and B with different production
capacities to refine 3 types of cooking oil; the Superior Cooking Oil, Deluxe Cooking Oil
and Special Cooking Oil.
The production capacity per day of each production line is as shown in the table below:
Type of Cooking Production Line Production Line
Oil A B
Superior Cooking 5000 liters 1000 liters
Oil
Deluxe Cooking 1000 liters 2000 liters
Oil
Special Cooking 1000 liters 5000 liters
Oil
The company needs to send at least 29000 liters of Superior Cooking Oil, at least 22000
liters of Deluxe Cooking Oil and at least 40000 liters of Special Cooking Oil to its
marketing department in the shortest possible time so as to minimise cost.
The daily costs of operating the production line A and production line B are RM 1600 and
RM 2900 respectively.
If x and y represents the number of days production line A and line B needs to be
operated respectively.
(a) Formulate a linear programming model by writing the inequalities that satisfies the
above conditions.
[3 marks]
(b) Plot and then shade the feasible region that satisfies the above inequalities.
[3 marks]
(c) Using the graph above, find the number of days production line A and line B must be
operated such that the cost is minimised. Find the minimum cost of production.

2 Syarikat Sinar has identified the following activities for a project to be completed.
Activi Preceding Duration (days)
ty activity
A - 1
B A 2
C B 1
D C 5
E C 4
F C 2
G D, E, F 3
(a) Draw a network diagram for the project. [3
marks]
(b) Hence, state the critical path and the time for completing the project.

(b) Construct a table to shows the activities, their duration, earliest start time,
earliest finish time, latest start time, latest finish time and total float. Hence,
determine the critical pathway and the minimum duration for the project.

(a) Draw the network diagram for the project.
[3 marks]
(b) List down all the possible pathways and their durations. Hence, state the critical
pathway and the minimum time needed to complete the project.

(c) Can activity C be delayed without delaying the completion of the project? Give a
reason for your answer.
