Theme: The Mathematic and Computer Role to Increase the Quality of Indonesian People

Good morning ladies and gentlemen and honorable juries,

First of all let’s thank to God for the health and the opportunity so we can be here know
and meet together. In the beginning of my speech allow me to introduce my self; my
name is Epafras Sehvidi Sitepu, a representative from Francies Senior High. In this nice
occasion I am going to present my opinion about Mathematic and Computer Role to
produce competitive Indonesian society.
First I am going to talk about Mathematic side, it is undeniable math have already
exist since primitive world, Egyptian build their awesome treasure also by using
mathematic, in that period pharaoh’s servant always count the width of Nil river to get
correct answer how much the tax that their society have to pay. Because it takes a part in
human life, it is one of the most humanistic things, and it play very important role in
human empire. With mathematic we can learn how to work independently or as a team,
become more critical to every thing. Mathematic influence us to grow as creative person
because when we have to solve one complicated problem in math, we have to find
different way, manipulate or create a new solution. Not only that benefits that we can take
from it but also we can learn how to make c consistence result and have strong basic,
base on the fact, it is undeniable we have to work systematically.
So, where is the Mathematics’ role in order to shape new Indonesian people? The
answer is with math we grow to be more responsible to our life, and our country
Indonesia, because in math we have to find the most logical answer, and do not contra
productive with previous theory, natural law in mathematic. Mathematic and human life
like two side of the coin that hard to be separated.
There are many topics that use math as their key. Art, especially painting, use
symmetry and perspective diagram to reach high quality artificial. For the businessman,
their profit, loss, prediction, need mathematic as their best friend to be successful. In this
case, they use principle of function, algebra, and matrix. In the other hand, in medical
point of view, it is hard to make the model of human body without use scale that one of
the theory which come from math. The application of math not only in science use but
also in social department, the new one is geographic Information system, which use math
modeling technique to operate the geographical data so we can know how good the earth
surface is.
In our educational world, exact knowledge like physic and biology, also use math,
to stand upright. Our student can express they curiosity, and they hungry about the clear
explanation from the theories by using math, so there is no doubt that math is one of
important value in our culture and human empire. Our country also use mathematic to
develop and design new project of city planning or regional planning.
