The January 12 earthquake brought the educational system in Haiti to a screeching halt, affecting around
2.5 million children. According to the Post Disaster Needs Assessment conducted by the Government of
Haiti (GoH), sector damages and losses amounted to over $ 477 million and will require over $ 600 million
for fully reconstructing. Rubble clearance has posed the greatest challenge in the effort to reconstruct
schools.
