Intro (1-2 minutes) – Take role and remind students that today we will be starting a new and exciting
game. The game is called Ultimate Frisbee!

Warm up (5-7 mintues minutes) – Have students complete five suicides in five minutes. They will line
up on the basketball court on the blacktop. They will stop and return at the endline, then return to the
starting line. After they return to the starting line, they will then do a 180 and run back to the second
free throw line where they will run back. After they get back to the starting point, they will then turn
around again until they reach the midline where they will return again. Lastly they will hit the starting
line, turn around and hit the first free throw line where they will return to the starting point. This counts
as one suicide. Have them complete five of these in 5 minutes.

Activity #1 (5-10 minutes) – Review the critical features of the backhand throw and pancake catch.

Backhand throw
1. Grip – thumb on top, index on side of Frisbee pointing at target
2. Same foot – step toward the target with the throwing foot.
3. Flick/snap the wrist – Like snapping a towel.

Pancake catch -
1. Ready stance – Feet shoulder width apart, knees and hips slightly bent.
2. Alligator/pancake catch – use your hands to clap down on the Frisbee like alligator jaws.
3. Absorb force – don't let the Frisbee bounce off, SOFT HANDS!
Next have the students practice catch for 5 minutes using both the backhand throw and the pancake
catch. Next the teacher will explain the rules of Ultimate Frisbee for the students to play.

Activity #2 (5-15 minutes if time permits) – Split up teams into groups of 5 with even amounts of boys
and girls on each team, as well as attempting to balance them by skill level. After teams are made, have
students participate in Ultimate frisbee. Explain the rules of the game which are listed below.

#1. Everybody's gotta get it! (before scoring)

#2. You cannot move with the frisbee.
#3. When the frisbee is dropped, it indicates a turnover.
#4. When on defense, one must keep a double arms distance. If I can smell your arm pits, your too
close – Fragrant foul!
#5. When holding the Frisbee, they must pass it within 10 seconds (10 alligator/Mississippi)
#6. When one team scores, they start like in soccer. The team that scored will now be on defense. The
newly offending team will start off in the middle of the field. They will start by passing backward to a
teammate. Each team must be on their own side of the midline of the field at this point. Once the first
pass is made, everyone is allowed to move.

Closure (1-3 minutes) – Ask students what the three critical features of throwing a backhanded frisbee
are. Ask them the three critical points of the pancake catch. Ask them how many people must get the
Frisbee before they can score. Ask if they can move with the Frisbee. Ask how close a defender can get.
Lastly ask them to raise their hands to give one of the rules of Ultimate Frisbee.
