Manager It was another beautiful Tuesday afternoon that saw 19
“Pool Bar Dave” Nichols players assemble into five teams to take on the challenging
back nine while trying to beat the darkness in the waning weeks
of the 2006 ATAG season. Despite starting at 4:33 pm, the last

18 UNDER SETS ALL TIME ATAG
1912 RECORD!
196 Montgomery Ferry Dr In an unbelievable display of consistently good ball striking,
Atlanta, Ga 30309 Team 4 members Brad Reese, David Danzig, Dick Pease,
and Don Nichols blew away the field and set an all time
team ATAG record of 18 under with gross scores of 38, 43,
40, and 41 respectively. Presenting the golden ale trophies to
the all time champions were Team 2 members Scotty
Greene, Henry Sawyer, Doug Healy, and Frank Corrigan
whose collective best was 2 under, dropping three shots on the
last hole to also earn the day’s “Choker Award” and obviating
the need for the Team 5 threesome to select a draw partner.

DANZIG DOES IT AGAIN!
Reese, Pease, Danzig, Rookie David Danzig, still carrying a 27 handicap (which is
Nichols plummeting as this is being written) followed his 42 on the front
(previous record was 16 nine last week with an identical score on the arduous
under) second nine, easily winning Low Net again with a net score
of 6 under. Danzig parred six of the nine holes on his way to
yet another “career round” and another pocketful of money
while dodging the raised eyebrows of the other players. The
Commissioner congratulated the seemingly embarrassed
Danzig for his fine play but informed the youngster that under
hastily redrawn ATAG Bylaws, he will have a new “ATAG
Handicap” going forward as it has become apparent that he is
no longer the golfer he once was. Danzig agreed, relieved that
his game had taken a positive turnaround from where it had
been all summer when he rightfully “earned” the 27 handicap
status.

GOODING AND CORRIGAN HAVE

SHOTS OF THE DAY!
Doug Gooding and Frank Corrigan earned co-honors for
“Shot Of The Day”. Gooding’s 180 yard approach shot on
#13 hit the pin, enabling him to make the birdie-net eagle-
putt while Corrigan’s approach shot of the same length on
the double popping hole #16 landed within 4 feet of the
hole. (don’t ask if he made the putt) Receiving honorable
mention was Dick Pease’s 65 yard approach shot on # 14
that landed within twelve inches of the hole for a tap in
birdie-net eagle.

SIX TWEETERS!
The back nine yielded more birdies than usual as six birdies
were added to the Birdie Club total with Kevin McGlynn and
Dick Pease putting their name on the roster for the first time.
Adding to their personal cumulative totals were Andy Tyber,
ATAG Richard Batelaan, Richard Gilmore, and Doug Gooding.

Ansley Golf Club OTHER TIDBITS
1912
● It was a more subdued crowd on the porch this week as
196 Montgomery Ferry Dr
Atlanta, Ga 30309
several players had to leave shortly after the match ended.
Surprisingly, the unidentified woman from the prior
week was again on the Men’s Grill porch, apparently ready to
confront Scotty Greene who bolted as soon as he saw her. The
mystery woman intruder left just as the last group finished.

● Last year’s regular attendee Dick Pease made only his

second appearance of the 2006 season, admitting that he had
somehow let work take priority over the pursuit of happiness.

● Andy Tyber is sporting a sleek new look—opting to shave

off whatever remnants of hair he had remaining to make him
look even more intimidating to his match play opponents and
making him eligible for the casting call for villainous roles in day
time soap operas.

● Kevin McGlynn and Richard Gilmore had their season

best scores of 43 and 41 respectively (Gilmore was shocked
that his net 4 under didn’t win it), and Tom Player was only
one shot more than his season best, finishing with a 43.

● For the second week in a row, the beverage cart was out on
the course and several players showed their gratitude by
purchasing one or more “swing oil” beverages.

That’s it for this week. See you next week when it is back to the
front nine. Because of the shorter daylight, the first tee time will
be between 4:00 pm and 4:15 pm, depending on the size of
the group. Look for the Call For Players on Monday. It may be
that we will have to assign tee times to those who can make the
earlier times. To speed up play, the Commissioner has
requested all players to play “hit when ready” even if it
means hitting simultaneously with one or more playing
partners.

THERE ARE ONLY 2 MORE MATCHES IN THE 2006

SEASON. However,
the general consensus is that players favor an 18 hole finale,
tentatively scheduled sometime during the week after the last
match and after daylight savings time has ended. Players will
be polled by e-mail as to their preference and the majority will
rule.
