1. Getting Started
------------------------------------------------

1a. The system specs required to run this software game


In order to play this Software, it is required that your PC satisfies the follo
wing system environment.
In case your PC does not satisfy the system environment, we cannot guarantee pr
oper operation of the Software.
Minimum System Environment:

OS: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
CPU: PentiumIII 1.0GHz or higher Pentium4 1.4GHz or higher
Memory: 128MB or higher 256MB or higher
HDD: 700MB or higher
Resolution: 640 x 480 or higher, FullColor(32 bit color)
Graphics Card: Direct3D, 64MB VRAM 128MB VRAM
Sound Board: DirectSound
CD-ROM: x8 or higher
DirectX: DirectX 9.0c or higher
PLEASE NOTE! ONLY THE FOLLOWING GRAPHIC CARDS ARE SUPPORTED:
NVIDIA GeForce 3 or higher (except NVIDIA GeForce 4MX series)
ATI RADEON 9600 or higher.
Depending on the performance of your hardware or of graphic board, performance a
nd graphic display accuracy of the Software result in differences.

1b. Installation
Insert the "THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD III" CD-ROM into your CD drive, select "INSTAL
L GAME" and install Game following the instructions that will be displayed on th
e screen.
* In case the Installation menu is not displayed even if you insert the disc
into CD drive, please double-click "Setup.exe" in CD-ROM.
To run the Software, DirectX 9.0b or later is required.
If you select "INSTALL DirectX" from the launcher in the "THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD
III" CD-ROM, you can install it.
If DirectX9.0b is not installed in your PC or the version of your DirectX is old
, please install DirectX9.0b.

If problems occurs or you have problems you cannot resolve with the information
within the user manual, please access the official website of SEGA PC:

You may find an answer to the question you want to know. Moreover, as the lates
t information is released on official websites for each game, please check them
on regular basis.

2. Trouble Shooting
------------------------------------------------

2a. Problems in installation


# Cannot install Game
--> When the installation screen is not displayed even when you insert CD-ROM in
to the CD drive, please double-click "setup.exe" in CD-ROM.
With Windows 2000 or Windows XP used, if the error message "You have no authorit
y" is displayed when you attempt to install Game.
For Windows 2000: to install an application, your access right must belong to th
e PowerUser or higher group.
For Windows XP: to install an application, the type of your account must be "adm
inistrator".

2b. Problems when starting Game


# Game does not start up or an error occurs during power-up
--> Your graphic board may not satisfy the minimum system environment.
--> Your graphic board driver may not be compatible with DirectX9.0b.
Please get the latest driver. (Sega does not distribute drivers.)
--> The Direct3D accelerator may be disabled. Please check that the Direct3D fu
nction is enabled with the entries of DirectX functions.
To start up the DirectX diagnostic tool, select "Run" in the Start menu of Win
dows, and enter "dxdiag.exe".
--> The hardware accelerator may not be set optimal in the entry of the performa
nce settings for your graphic board. Right-click on the Windows desktop, then s
elect "Settings"--> "Detailed Settings"
(in case of Windows 98/Me/2000, "Details")--> "Trouble Shooting"
(in case of Windows 98/Me, "Graphics" in "Performance") to check if the hardware
accelerator is set maximized.
* When a problem does not improve even if you check the above contents, please t
ry uninstalling Game and installing it once more.
2c. Problems in Operation of the Game
# House of the Dead III runs at low speed
--> According to your system environment, Game may sometimes operate at higher s
peed if you set RESOLUTION to 640x480, SCREEN MODE to FULL SCREEN and FRAME RATE
to 10fps. Furthermore, House of the Dead III may also run faster by turning ANT
I-ALIASING off.
# If you leave House of the Dead III runnung for a while, the operation speed wi
ll lower
--> Using power management (power-supply management function) or energy saving d
uring the gameplay may lead to malfunction. Therefore if you are using these fu
nctions, please turn them off.
# Game will be shut down
--> Do you use power management or energy-saving functions? When you are running
House of the Dead III, please turn them off. If you are using them during game
play, they may lead to malfunction.
# PC shuts down or restarts during the gameplay
--> Your PC power supply may not be adequate to power your hardware.
This is most likely to occur if you have installed a graphics board that requi
res its own independent power supply. Please ensure your graphics board is corr
ectly installed and connected to your power supply. Also ensure that your power
supply has sufficient capacity for the graphics board.
# You cannot control Game with Keyboard or Mouse
--> Select Keyboard or Mouse in "CONTROLLER SETTING" and assign each button onto
them.
--> If you cannot control Game with Keyboard or Mouse after booting up Game, ple
ase click the screen once with mouse.

2d. Problems with BGM and Sound Effects


# Ill-balanced sound volume
--> Adjust sound volume of each sound in the "Sound" option in Game or adjust th
e sound balance in Volume Control in the Windows menu.
2e. Problems with Screen Display
# Screen display becomes corrupt or movie is not displayed appropriately
--> With some combinations of system environments and graphic drivers, screen di
splay may improve if you set "COLOR MODE" in
"GRAPHIC SETTINGS" to "32bit".
--> Some combinations of system environments and graphic drivers will make scree
n display corrupt, slow down movies or cause partial image problems or sound pro
blems. In these cases, please update the driver of your graphic board with the
latest driver.
(Sega does not distribute drivers.)
* About graphic cards
According to performance of graphic cards, problems may sometimes occur in displ
aying textures. Please note that this is a problem caused by performance of spe
cific graphic cards.
The above information on chips whose proper operation we guarantee is
one as of August 2004 and chips may be added whose proper operation
is checked, depending on the later verification. As for the latest graphic
cards, please check them on the following homepage of Sega:
