THE PROCESS

The Nomination

The U.P. College of Education Research and Development Committee handles the selection
process. For best thesis and best dissertation, each area in the College of Education is
invited to nominate one candidate for every ten [10] masters graduates and one candidate
for every ten [10] doctoral graduates from the area. The nomination form should be
supported by the area’s description of the student’s research contribution, addressing the
criteria listed below (see criteria). The nomination documents must consist of:

• A signed nomination form that clearly establishes the reasons for nominating the
dissertation.
• Five (5) bound copies of the thesis/dissertation.

All nomination materials must be received by the UPCEd R and D Committee (c/o Ate
Lita Sanghel???) no later than March 28, 2011. Submissions after the deadline will
not be considered.

The Selection

Three invited selected evaluators, who must be scholars and must have good research
track, will judge the submitted nomination documents. The team of evaluators may be
composed of the following:

• A graduate [not within the span of five years] or retiree from the UP College of
Education or a faculty of UPIS or NISMED
• A faculty from other UP colleges related to College of Education
• A non-UP administrator/ faculty in other prestigious universities (who may also be a

The evaluators will be given selection guidelines and will use assessment templates
specifically developed for this task. They will also be asked to write a brief report on the
strengths and weaknesses of each thesis/ dissertation.
The scores of the theses/ dissertations will be ranked based on the scores they gave each
thesis and dissertation. The ranking of the evaluators will be tallied and the highest rank will
be given the award.
