ACT I

Scene 1:

[It is early morning in the palace of King Banmeni. The sun is shining brightly. The
servants are preparing breakfast for the king and all ministers. Some cleaning services
are cleaning the floor. One of them begins the dialog in that early morning.]

Lomi : Tefu….! It is unusual that the king doesn’t control us this morning. Do
you know where he is?
Tefu : Just keep working Lomi, maybe he is still asleep.
Lomi : Asleep? I don’t think so, maybe…. [Stop, Interrupted]
Oni : [Interrupting] Don’t you guys know that the king always takes a walk
around the palace every morning? He has a lot of animal. He likes to
check them up before the shepherds take them to the savanna.
Lomi and Tefu : oww yeeaah…??
Tefu : How do you know that?
Oni : yeah of course! I just know…no reason…Let’s clean up over there..
[They move to another part of the palace]

Scene 2:

[In the palace, breakfast time. The king and his queen are sitting side by side. They are
having breakfast together with the ministers. The queen put some rice into the king’s
plate.]

Queen : [give the plate to the king] You’re Majesty?!

King : [take the plate, smiling] Thank you honey!
Queen : [smiling too and take her turn]
King : [look among the ministers] Let’s eat together..!
ALL MINISTERS : Let’s eat together You’re Majesty
King : [while eating] Are all the herdsmen already out to the field?
Minister 1 : Yes You’re Majesty. They got off on schedule.
King : All of them? How about Neno and Fai?
Minister 2 : hhmmm… [Think] Yes you’re Majesty. They went out before
sunrise!
King : Good!! I like them very much. [Turn to the queen] They had their breakfast?
Queen : [glance to the servants]
Servant 1 : No You’re Majesty. But they brought it with them.

Scene 3:

[In front of the palace, after breakfast. The king is sitting on the throne, drinking his
wine. The queen is having hair comb while the people come in with many kind of
offering.]

Civilian 1 : [Put the banana before the king] Long live Your Majesty!
King : [Drinking his wine and smiling]
Civilian 2 : [Bring a cock and tide it before the king] May peace is always upon you,
The Great King Banmeni.
King : Thank you. [Then turn to one of his ministers] Kela…! Tell me! What are the
best rewards for the goat herdsmen? mmmhh…who are they?
Kela : You mean Neno and Fai Your Majesty..?
King : Yes…. Yes…! You know, they are very diligent.
Kela : mmm…. I suggest you’d better raise their salary. They have very poor
family, so it might help them Your Majesty.
King : I think you’re right. That is a good idea… [Nodding]
Scene 4:

[In the kitchen, some servants are cooking, while one comes in panic expression.]

Servant 1 : Hey guys…. [Almost whispering] come closer..! I have bad news.
Servant 2 : Huuh..? Bad news?
Servant 3 : What is it?
Servant 1 : I heard that King Banmeni wants to rise up Neno and Fai’s salary.
Servant 3 : Huuh..? Ow that’s bad. So what about us? We cooked for them. EVERY
DAY…
Servant 2 : And still in low salary?!
Servant 1 : Yes, you know, it’s not fair!
Servant 4 : Icch… I wish they will be killed by Be’lana’!
Servant 3 : Be’lana? That dangerous ghost??! Woouuuufff…[ shakes her body] it’s
scary..!

[The four servants laugh together]

ACT II:
Scene 1:

[Neno and Fai are walking through a dark forest. Each of them holding a long stick
used to herd the goats. They look enjoy the activity. They blow a song, and sometimes
smiling and laughing.]

Scene 2:

[At the green field, midday. Fai see a green field.]

Fai : [pointing] Look Neno…there‘s a savanna down there. It’s a right place to feed
the goats.
Neno : [laugh] Yeaah… Let’s go. Maybe we can also have lunch there.
Fai : [nodded] Good idea…. Come on..!
 [They herd the goats to the savanna]

Scene 3:

[At the savanna, Fai and Neno let the goats eating while both of them sitting under a
tree and having lunch]

Neno : Fai… do you have any more provision? Could you give me some? My family is
running out of food. [look somewhere else with empty glance]
Fai : hhhhhh…. [take a long breath and exhale it] Neno… we have the same fate.
[taps Neno’s shoulder] At least the king still take care of us and our
family. You know, our lives belong to him. Just enjoy the job my friend.
Neno : Yeeaah… I do think so. We have to serve him with the best of ours. Anyway
[changing topic] we’d better find a river to let the goat drink. It’s very hot.
Fai : Yes you’re right. But can we take a little nap after this? I’m really tired.
Neno : [nodded] mmhhmm….

ACT III

Scene 1:

[There is a cave in the middle of the forest. The cave is covered by spider webs and
human bones and skulls spread all over the cave. The ugly old Be’Lana’ is sitting on a
big stone with her untidy hair falls on her ugly face. Her eyes are closed.
There are blood remains at the corner of her lips. Her skinny hands with long nails are
put on her laps. Just like in meditating position. A horrible smile comes slowly to her
face, and continued with a crazy laugh. ’Eh…he...he...he...he... I’ve got a vision of my
prey! Two herdsmen with goats huh..? Not bad… I’m gonna be stronger and stronger by
eating their souls…eh…he...he...he…’ She is laughing harder and harder while scratch
one of the skulls with her long nails.
Scene 2:

[Neno and Fai have just finished their lunch]

Neno: [Drinks Water]

Fai : Let’s have a little nap Neno. [Lean on the stem of the tree and closes his eyes]
Neno : [Yawning] Yeeaaahh…! I’m really tired. We can herd the goats to the river when
we got up.
[Fai doesn’t give any more comment because he falls asleep so fast]
Neno : ooohhhh… Fai…… You are a sleeping beauty.. [smiles]

[Neno lay down on the grass and both of them fall asleep]

Scene 3:

[In her cave, the ugly Be’lana had change to a poor solitaire granny in the forest. Her
cave also magically changes to a small house.]
‘So your names are neon and fai…! I’ll guide you to come straightly to my mouth…
He…he…he… with this new appearance, it wouldn’t be difficult to trap you…!
[She laughs again]

Scene 4 :

[Neno and Fai are in a deep sleep. They don’t realize that two of the goats are forced
by Be’Lana’s magical power. The two goats walk into the forest and
disappear in the dark. There even no sign that there was a living thing
ever exist.]

Scene 5 :

[In the little house of Be’Lana, the poor granny with horrible smile still holding the
skull. playing it as a toy, but it is only another phase of her ritual to
guide the goats close to her.
‘Come to me fool creatures…! Come to me…! Come closer and I’ll eat you before eating
your fool herdsmen..! He..he..he… [Laugh like a crazy]

ACT IV

Scene 1 :

[Fai gets up while Neno still asleep. He comes to the goats. Checks them and he gets
shocked. Two of the goats have gone. He gets back to Neno.

Fai : Neno..! Neno..! Wake up..! WAKE UP…! Some goats have gone. I don’t know
where.
Neno : What? [Sweeping his eyes] What did’ya say ?
Fai : I SAID… SOME GOATS HAVE GONE ….!!! We have to find’em.

[Fai and Neno run to the goats and count them]

Neno : Oh… No….! We will be punished. The king must be very angry with us.
Fai : So, what should we do now…?! I have no idea. [Grabs his head]
Neno : Calm down… Calm down my friend.. Let’s tide the remaining goats here and go
search the other two…
Fai : Yeah.. OK..OK… They might not far from here.
[They spread their selves to different directios]

Scene 2:

[Neno goes to through the bush, trying to find the missing goats. Sometimes he cuts
the bushes off. He keeps on searching as well as Fai.]

Fai : How is it Neno..?!! Any sign of them??!!

Neno [voice from another side] : Not yet…!! Keep searching…

Scene 3 :

[They meet in the edge of the forest. They looked pale and exhausted, while the day is
getting dark.]

Neno : Fai …, I found nothing.

Fai : Oh my gosh… Me too...! so, what we have to do now? The day is getting dark.
Should we go home? Empty handed? Oh…NO…!![Crying]
Neno : Come on Fai… We haven’t crossed the river. [Pointing] Maybe there still a
hope.
Fai : No…! No Neno, we can’t. We have no more time. The sun is almost sets. Do
you want us to die? We have no food, no drink Neno..!?
Neno : Fai….! [Scream out] We find the goats or go home with nothing, and the king
will kill us with the entire family huh….? No Fai…! No..!
Fai : But….[Interrupted]
Neno : [puts sword on Fai’s neck] You’ll never see the palace and even your wife
gonna be a widow if you keep talking. [silent for a moment] don’t you know, it is our
responsibility to do. Even to the death.
Fai : [ raise his hands up] o..okay,,, [tears]
[Neno walks to the river and Fai follows him]

Scene 4:

[At the same time, in the palace, king Banmeni is sitting on his throne, eating some
snacks and gives an order to a minister.]
King : Tua’..!
Tua’ : Yes Your Majesty…
King : The sun is almost sets. I need you to check up all the herdsmen and let me know,
are they already back or not…! [Continue eating]
Tua’ : As you wish Your Majesty. [Go out]

[As the minister goes out, the king turns to his queen]

King : [While eating] mmmm…. My lovely queen, don’t you eat?

Queen : [Smiling and shakes her head] I’d like to have some fresh mango.
King : OK…OK… Just a moment my queen. [Turns to the servant and give order]
Bring some fresh mango for the queen..!

[The servant goes to the kitchen and comes back with a tray of mango. The king and his
queen enjoy the evening.]

[Some minutes later, while king and queen still having snack, Tua’ comes back, and
gives the report pantingly.]

Tua’ : Excuse me your majesty, all herdsmen are back, only Neno and Fai…
hhh….hhhh
King : Neno and Fai, what….? What happen to them?
Tua” : I’m sorry Your Majesty, I mean they haven’t come back yet.
Kela : [Wondering] I’m sorry Your Majesty, maybe they went little bit further. I guess
they’ll be back some moments later.
King : OK…OK… Let me know if they already here.
 ACT V
Scene 1:

[Neno and Fai come to the river of Tumut. Fai is unstable. He is starving and thirsty.
He straightly drinks the water and fills his bottle. Neno also does the same. Now they
have enough strength to continue searching. They continue walking across the river.
Darkness slowly but surely fills the forest.]

Scene 2 :
[In the middle of the river, they are still searching the goats among the rocks.
Wondering if the goats are drinking. They find nothing. Thunder roars and the sky
become dark. It seems to be rain.]
Fai : Look Neno…! [Pointing the sky] It seems to be rain.
Neno : Yeah… I know… I heard the thunder.
Fai : Le’s go back. [Get closer to Neno, shaking] We...we… can research tomorrow
morning. [Holds Neno’s right hand.] please Neno… it’s scary out here..[Shaking]
Neno : What the hell are you talking about…??!! I can’t understand you… I can’t take
the risk of going home without the goats. The king gonna kill us.
Fai : But…B..b..b..but it’s dark already. And…[Rain drop falls on his hand] The rain
is coming now. Can’t you feel it?
Neno : I…I…. I think so. [A little unsure] Come on!

[They run to the edge of the river]

Scene 3

[The rain falls hardly, both Neno and Fai already wet, cold and hungry. They try to
find shelter under the big trees. Then they see a dull light in the darkness not far from
their place. It seems to be a house.]

Neno : [Smiling] Fai, look! There must be a house. Maybe we can have a shelter there
for a while.
Fai : Oohhh…. Thank God…! That’s what I ever expected for... warm house, good
food… hmmmm..!
Neno : yeah..yeahh! Let’s go there..!
[They walk closer to the light]

Scene 4 :

[In the palace, the king is still waiting. He is worry about his men. It is unusual that
they come late. It is already dark and they haven’t arrived. King Banmeni walks
around the room. Sometimes goes to the door and looks out.]

Queen: why you look so upset honey? Is there anything bothering you my king?
King : [Touching queen’s hair] I am worrying about our men. Goat’s herdsmen.
Queen : What’s happening with ‘em?
King : They haven’t got home, while the day is getting dark already. I’m afraid if
something happen with ‘em.
Queen : Oh… My king. Be cool. Maybe they are caught by the rain.
King : I hope they didn’t cross the River of Tumut.
Queen : I afraid so my king. There was a horrible legend about it. I… I just…[Stopped]
King : [Inhale] Huffff….!! Hopefully they are OK.

Scene 5 :
[A moment later in the kitchen, the servants are happy to hear the news. They are
gossiping about Neno and Fai.]

Servant 3 : [Dancing and cheerful]

Servant 1 : Hey ?! Are you OK?! Why you dancing?
Servant 4 : [Give a sign] hussshhh…! She gets mad![without voice]
Servant 3 : I have a good news for you guys. You know what, Neno and Fai haven’t
got home!
Servant 2 : Is that all? So what’s the benefit for us dummy? Go back to work!
Servant 1 : Disturbing!!!
Servant 3 : Wait… Wait… don’t you remember what we were talking about this
morning? You know, it would be benefit for us if they never come back. Then the king
will change his mind to give the present to one of us. Am I right?
Servant 2 : yeah… you are right…
Servant 1 : Hopefully they’ll never come back again.
Servant 3 : yeah, haha…! [Laughing together]

ACT VI.
Scene 1:
In the house of Be’lana.
[Neno and Fai reach the source of the light. There is a small house, with a light inside.
The door is open, but no body’s in. the fire is burned in the fireplace, and really warm.
They get into the house without any fear. Directly both Neno and Fai come closer to
the fire and warm up their wet body. They are shaking of coldness.]

Scene 2 :
[In the deep darkness outside the house, an old granny walks slowly to the house with
a stick in her right hand and a basket full of fruits and vegetables in her left hand. She
steps into the house while Neno and Fai are sitting near the fire.]

Granny : Ugh…Ugh…Ughh…[Cough]
Fai : [Whispering] Neno… who is outside…? [Get closer to Neno]
Neno : [Look carefully to the door] Maybe the owner of this house…
[Whispering]
Fai : Oh no..!
Granny : [Stands in front of the door and steps slowly into the house] Ugghh…
Ugghh… Hallo there…! Who are you…!
Neno : [Fearfully] We are very sorry momma. We are Neno and Fai. It’s heavy
rain outside and we come for a shelter. [Fai looked so scared, he can’t say anything.]
Granny : Don’t be afraid my dear… Ugghh…. uuughh… It’s OK… I’m
glad to meet you here. It’s been hundreds of years I haven’t met human being. I…
Uuughhh… uuugghhhh…. [Interrupted]
Fai : [Surprised] Hhuuhh…? Excuse me… for hundreds of years?
Granny : [Laughing] ha..ha..ha… No my dear…Ughh…ugghhh… I mean
it’s been a long time I live alone in this forest. I have never met my relatives. Ugghh…
ugghh…ugghh… I was just kidding…ha..ha..ha…
[Neno and Fai are smiling. They’ve got their courage back]

Fai : oouu yeaah… I see…I see…!

Granny : So. What are you doing in this forest?
Neno : We are herding the king’s goats, but we lost two of them. So, we are
trying to find them in this forest, but we were caught by the rain after we cross the river.
Then we saw a light from this house and here we are.
Granny : Ouuhh…! Uugghh… [Cough] You must be very hungry and tired.
Fai : Ow… Yes…yes… We are in a terrible hunger..! Is there anything to
eat??Oouuch…. [Neno bangs his head]
Granny : Oh…ha…ha…ha… [Laughing while covering her mouth with
palm of her hand] Ugghh…ugghh…ehhmmmm… Here is a little soup [pouring into a
bowl—made of the hardcore of the coconut], take it.
Fai : Thank you momma…thank you !
[Fai takes the soup and eats it. He offers the soup to Neno and Neno takes it. He can’t
deny that he is also hungry. They are eating while having a warm conversation with the
granny]

Scene 3 :

[In the palace, the king can’t sleep. He is thinking about his good herdsmen. His
queen is so sad.]

Queen : My king…do you still thinking of your herdsmen?

King : [Look at the queen] Honey, I’m afraid if something bad happen upon them. They
are my best herdsmen.
Queen : I know my king… but you need to sleep. It is midnight already. Trust me [Taps
the king’s shoulder], they’ll be back tomorrow.
King : Hhhmmm…. Yeah… hopefully they’ll be here tomorrow.
[The king looks a little calmer then before. He walks into the room to sleep]

Scene 4 :

[In the small house of Be’Lana, Neno and Fai have just finished eating. They put the
bowl on the floor and wipes their stomachs]

Fai : woooaahhmm…. [Yawning] such a delicious soup I ever taste.

Neno : Yeaah… you’re right Wooaaahhmm…[Yawning]. It’s delicious… [Still wiping
his stomach, while smiling to the granny].
Granny : Ha…ha… is it good? Thank you… [Tricky smile comes to her face] Are
you both sleepy my dear?
Fai : Woooaahhmmm… yes momma…
Granny : Don’t worry my dear… you can sleep here tonight and will
never…. Oh… [Correcting] I mean you can sleep here if you want and continue your
search in the morning.
Neno : I think it’s a good idea momma. It was a tiring day…

[Neno and Fai lay down on the floor and fall asleep]

Scene 5 :

[When Neno and Fai fall asleep, the granny stands up; she looks at their faces and
makes a tricky smile. It’s a victory for her. She walks out from the house and changes
her appearance into her basic “ugly ghost Be’Lana”
‘Gotcha…!!! Ha…ha…he…he…he…!!!’
She also changes the small house back into the cave]

ACT. VII

Scene 1.

[Early morning in the cave, when they get up they are surprised. The house has
changed in to a horrible cave. No more plate or fire. Only spider webs everywhere
covering the cave. They were sleeping on the bones. The smilefull granny has gone.
They are very scared.]

Neno : It’s smelly..! uhuh.. (sweeping has eyes and surprised) am I dreaming? Oh no!
(can’t believe what he is seeing. Turn to Fai and shakes Fai’s body)
Fai : (still asleep while moves his body) hmmmm…. Go back and sleep Neno???
Neno : wake up dummy?? We are in a trouble. We have been trapped,,,
Fai : trapped?? Whoaahhh… (yawning) by what?? You may dream Neno??
Neno : (trying to find the door of that cave) Faiiiii……… (screaming)
Fai : (unconsciously grabs some bones and…) haahh? Oh no…! Nenoo???? Where
are we??
Neno : I,,, I don’t know! I think last night we were sleeping in a warm house with
delicious food, right?
Fai : where is that momma? The owner of the house. (sweeping his eyes)
Neno : (slap Fai’s chick)
Fai : a awwww……
Neno : is that hurt? I thought we still dreaming….
Fai : are you crazy? It’s hurt … wait, wait,,, mmm….. have you ever heard the legend
of Be’lana? (Neno nodded) yeah…? “an ugly dangerous ghost that can change her
appearance into a solitaire granny to trap anyone enters her area. I am afraid she was that
granny last night” huffffff…
Neno : oh… come on Fai. Don’t you make me scare anymore? Let’s find a way out
from here.

Scene 2.

[At the same time, in the palace. King Banmeni and his ministers are sitting in the
front of the palace, while the wives of Neno and Fai are coming.]

King : Tua, Kella,,,how about Neno and Fai. Is there any news bout’em?
Kela : I’m sorry your majesty. There still no news about them until this morning.
King : oh God,,, what’s happening with my men?
(while talking…)
Guardian 1: (Bows down and a moment latter)
Wifes : Good morning my adored king…
King : ooh,,, good morning,,,
Fai’s wife: we are sorry for bothering you my king. We just want to ask you about our
husbands. They were not at home last night your majesty…
King : you mean Neno and Fai?
Neno’s wife: yes your majesty..
King : yeah… we are also wondering about them. They were not here too last night.
Fai’s wife: oh,,, (crying) please my king… please my king,,, please find them… we need
them.
Neno’s wife: please my king, the kids are hungry because they haven’t got home.
King : ok, ok… calm down… I’ll give a command to my men to search them. I’ll let
you know later.
Wives: thank you your majesty. (out)

Scene 3.
[In the cave, Neno and Fai are fearful of being trapped. They are running to the
door of the cave but the door is slowly closed and there is only a narrow whole. They
put their hands out and scream for help but no one listen.]

Fai and Neno: help, help,, heeeeelp,,, take us out from this cave.

Scene 4.

on the cave. Be’lana is laughing in satisfaction; ha…ha…ha.. hi…hi…hi.. I’ll eat your
soul, fool creatures,,,,? Ha…ha…ha… hi…hi…hi…

ACT. VIII
Scene 1.

[in the palace.]

King : (asking his men) Tua,,,

Tua : yes your majesty,,,?
King : you go with those guardians and do searching in the forest around the palace,
and let me know if there is any sign. (turns to Kella) and you Kella, you stay here with
me.
Kella and Tua : as you wish your majesty… (Bow down)

Scene 2.

[in the forest, Tua and the other two men keep searching but there is no sign of
them. Then,,,]

Tua : It is mid-day now, but we found nothing…

Guard 1: So, let’s search any further…
Guard 2: But the king asked us to search only in the forest around the palace. We’d better
go back and give any report to the king.
Tua : No..! we can’t go back to the palace before we find them. (thinking)uh huhh,,,
we haven’t cross the river of Tumut. Let’s go any further.
Guard 2: Ok,,, it is ok.
Guard 1: yeah,,, lets go there before the sunset.

Scene 3.

[ across the river of Tumut. They scream out loud and call their name.]

Tua : Nenooo,,, Faiii,,,

Guard 1: let’s go up there…!
Guard 2: Yeah,,, Tua maybe there is still a hope…
Tua : Ok. Come on,,,
(they come closer to the cave and one of them hears human’s voice scream for help)
Guard 2: (hear something) wait, wait,, wait,,, listen..! do you guys hear that?
Tua : Yeah,,, yeah,,, someone needs help up there…
Guard 1: Let’s go…! (running close to source of the voice)

Scene 4.

[Near the cave. Tua and the guardians are surprised. The voices are out from the
stone and there’s no hole.]

Tua : huh..?? oh my gosh…

Neno : is there anyone out there? Help us please,,, help us…!
Tua : Huh?? Is it you Neno? Where is Fai??
Fai : Yes. I’m here Tua. Help us.! Take us out from this cave. Please,,, we are
trapped.
Guard 2: Trapped? By what??
Tua : ok, ok,,, wait. (they try to take those stones apart but they can’t)
Neno : help us Tua, help us..!
Fai : I’m hungry, help us out from here please…(put their hands out from the cave)

Scene 5.

[All are useless. One of them go back to the palace.]

Guard 1: Tua,, we have to tell the king about this.

Guard 2: yeah Tua..! we can’t do it alone here. We need more people to help them out.
Tua : ok..! Now, you go back to the palace and tell the king about this and come back
here with many more men with any good equipment. And you, stay here with me.
Guard 1: ok… (leave. Go back to the palace)

ACT. IX

Scene 1.

[In the palace.]

Guard 1: (breathless) excuse me your majesty,,,

King : (surprised) oh, you..! what happen? Is there any information about Neno and
Fai? (the queen come closer and Kella too)
Guard 1: yes your majesty. We find them your majesty, but,,,(interrupted)
King : But what?
Guard 1: I am sorry your majesty, they were trapped.
King : (little bit confuse) huh…? What do you mean?
Guard 1: I am sorry your majesty, I mean we find Neno and Fai but they were trapped in
the cave across the river of Tumut. And the stone has no way in or out your majesty.
Queen : (seems to cry and the king sweep her hair)
Kella : I am sorry your majesty, you have to figure this out as soon as possible.
King : yeah,, yeah.. oh my God, help my people. (praying)
(turns to Kella) Kela, now you let the whole people around the palace about this bad
news. Ask them to go with us to the cave today with their own equipment to help Neno
and Fai out from the cave.
Kella : as you wish your majesty.

Scene 2 :

[King Banmeni and his people arrive at the cave, while Neno and Fai still crying for
help.]

Fai : mmmm….. hhh…help…. Mmmm…me….. I am…… hungry…. [The voice

become slow]
King : Where are they?
Tua and Guard 2 : (Bow down and point the cave)
King : Neno….? Fai…?
Neno : Yes…… Y….Your Ma…jesty…?
Fai : h…help…. Me…. My king…!
Fai’s wife : [crying out loud] Fai… my dear husband…..! How did you get in
there…? Do you wanna leave me alone with our baby? Oh……No…..!
Neno’s wife : [only tears, give hug to Fai’s wife] Come on…. They’ll be OK.
King : Calm down.. I’ll do my best to help your husbands.

Scene 3 :

[People are trying to break the stone.]

King : All of you! Bring the equipments to break the stone and let them out
Kela and Tua : As you wish your majesty…
