PITER Final Seminar
About 50 participants from EU and
Regional bodies, renewable energy
companies and academic members
took part in he final act of PITER project:
an international seminar, held on 14th
December in Brussels, at the Alps-
Mediterranean Euroregion Head Office.
This event was aimed to assert the
importance of an important trans-
national cooperation and show the
results of the project itself.
First of all, it was stressed the importance
of partnership between EU and Member
States if we want to reach the objectives
proposed in the Europe 2020 strategy. It
will be necessary to set up a coordination
effort between the different levels of
governance, with a Regional impulse
in proposals and commitments, and a
strong attention to support actions close
to the real needs.

A New Proposal: CLAIRE
Last November the PITER consortium submitted a
project proposal call “CLAIRE” in the framework of the
INTERREG ALCOTRA programme.
This two years project can be read as a second phase of
PITER, and its main purpose will be to put into practice
some of the primary actions proposed by PITER, with the
aim of exchanging knowledge and innovation about
renewable energy development.
This goal has to be reached through the exploitation
of the potential of companies and the enhancement of
synergies among the two bordering Regions.
In particular, the main objectives are:
• to contribute to REs and energy savings
opportunity and consolidate industrial, research
and institutional relationships;
• to support and to inform enterprises about the
development of innovative products and available
resources;
outlooks of the Franco-Italian partnership project: PITER
has been a platform for research and technological
development, and a starting point for political and
economical strategies conveyed in a Joint Action Plant.
The JAP, including a business plan, gives the guidelines for
facilitating knowledge transfer from labs to industry and
then its dissemination toward EU regions and clusters,
as well as the priority actions to set up collaborative
R&D projects aiming to develop and commercialize
renewable energy technologies.
This first part of the seminar, after the congratulations for
the results of PITER Project in the hope of a future closer
trans-regional cooperation, ended with the signature of
the JAP by the delegates of the two Regions, Piemonte
and Rhône-Alpes, and the delegates of Environment
Park and Tenerrdis.
The topic discussed in the afternoon concerned the
internalization of clusters: these realities, given their
innovation capabilities and market competencies, have
the potential to became leading actors of the EU policies
in the energy sector. This could be facilitated by the
sharing of results and by permanent contacts, allowing
free, interchange of knowledge, for an efficient and more
competitive cluster presence in Europe.
Innovation will lead the way for a new competitive
Europe.
• to enlarge the cooperation through enterprises
and research centres via the R&D Clusters;
• to increase regional Institutions, enterprises and
research centres visibility to a local, national and
European level;
• to upgrade European and national participation of
the partner territories in the initiatives for energy
innovation;
• to support the product diversification of SMEs in
the direction of an innovative market in the field
of new energy and energy efficiency.
The CLAIRE project will propose a Summer School
focused on REs, to increase skills and cooperation
between the researchers of the two Regions, and pilot
actions to help the diversification of enterprises profiting
of the new field of REs.
The CLAIRE project is one of the post PITER initiatives
that the two Regions decided to develop to broaden
their collaboration in the REs field.
