2011 UNDERGRADUATE SUMMER FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION

Application Deadline: Friday, April 15, 2011

Processing will begin the first week of March 2011. Please allow three weeks for processing.

Summer Session Financial Aid is available in the form of work and loans for matriculated Cornell University
undergraduate students based on eligibility available for the 2010-2011 aid year. Cornell- based grant aid is not
available for summer enrollment. Bursar and Cornell Card balances must be paid in full to register for
summer courses and before your aid application will be considered.

The 2011 Summer Financial Aid Application is required for those enrolling in at least six credits or those
enrolling in under six credits that have received a Pell Grant during the academic year or are graduating in
August 2011. If you do not meet this criteria you are not eligible for need-based aid or loans and do NOT need to
submit this application. If in need of funding, you can apply for an alternative loan. By choosing to utilize an
alternative loan it is your responsibility to apply with a cosigner through an outside lender of your choice. You will
complete the entire application process and receive approval from them. Please clearly specify the loan period as
May-August. During this process, the lender will contact our office to certify the loan based on your enrollment and
summer cost of attendance. If approved, the lender will then send our office the funds to credit to your bursar
account.

Please proceed with the application process if you are enrolling for at least six credits, were Pell Grant
eligible during the academic year, or need fewer than six credits to graduate in August 2011:

 If you are enrolling in an independent study, you must submit a copy of your completed Application for
Independent Study. You need to submit the original to the School of Continuing Education and Summer
Sessions when you register. The Application for Independent Study is available at the School of Continuing
Education and Summer Sessions, B20 Day Hall, or on their website.

 Written permission from your college registrar must be provided along with this application if:

• You are currently on a leave of absence, but have permission to return for Summer Session.

• You need the course(s) listed below to graduate in August 2011. Please have your registrar specify
the course(s) and corresponding number of credits required for you to graduate in August 2011.

• Your summer enrollment exceeds Summer Session’s recommended course load as specified on
page two of this application.

 Please note that in order to receive a federal or Cornell University (Shoemaker) loan for the first time, the
electronic Master Promissory Note must be signed and online Entrance Counseling be completed by June
15, 2011. These forms are available online at:
http://finaid.cornell.edu/finaid/types/loans/promissorynote.cfm

 Your 2011 Summer Session financial aid is reviewed based on the enrollment information provided on
your 2011 Summer Session Financial Aid Application. Any change to your enrollment, courses or credit
hours, may affect your aid. Please notify the Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment in
writing of any changes in your enrollment. Failure to provide notification of these changes may
result in an owing of funds. Loans will be cancelled if enrollment is dropped, making you
responsible for the payment of all late withdrawal fees.
