INTRODUCTION

Multimedia University Library (MMU Library) is the centre of the academic life of the
university providing information and services to both the Cyberjaya and Melaka
Campuses. The MMU Library was established to be an effective focal point of document
and information supply in digital formats, worldwide library services and international
library cooperation. It plays a vital role in supporting the teaching, learning, research &
development programmes of the university. Siti Hasmah Digital Library consists of four
libraries namely:

- Siti Hasmah Digital Library, Cyberjaya Campus

- Siti Hasmah Digital Library, Melaka Campus
- Law library, Melaka Campus
- Research library, Cyberjaya Campus

“Located at the centre of activity of the university. The library able to manage 880 users
at one time. It was officially launched on 24 July 2000, by our chancellor, Tun Dr. Siti
Hasmah Mohd Ali.”

“Fully operational since 1996, its layout stretched out to three floors where it can
accommodate 800 students at one time”

“The library focuses on Law collections. A closed access services at the Law Library provide equal privileges to all law students. The Law Library is located at the Law
School, Malacca Campus.”

Research Library, Cyberjaya Campus

“Focus on the published and unpublished collections with advanced research collections. The Research acts as the Institutional Repository (IR) of the university.”

• Siti Hasmah Digital Library is the first digital Library in Malaysia

• The library has 10 Professional librarians & 43 supporting staffs

• The Digital Library online resources come with 50 online databases, 9 Journal Packages & 411
journals titles

• As at 2011 – The library has 134,000 titles of books in multiple disciplines.

• In-house Repository Collections of the library including Institutional Repository (Eprints), Digital
Theses Online, MBA Theses Online, Past Year Exam Papers as well as Final Year Projects (Abstract).

• Comprehensive collections to support University’s Research & Development as well as teaching

and learning.

• ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Compliance

• Compliance with MQA Accreditations and Standards

• Various services offered such as loan services, electronic information services, Virtual Reference

ACHIEVEMENTS

Siti Hasmah Digital Library received a number of achievements since its existence in 1996. These may include:

- ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System, certified on 14 July 2010

- Winner of Best Academic Library Homepage in Malaysia by Elsevier, 2005

- First Digital Library in Malaysia, 2001 by Malaysia Book of Records

- Special Jury Award “Anugerah Perpustakaan Cemerlang PPM 2007” by the “Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia”

- Highest Usage Award for the highest number of Emerald articles downloaded worldwide in 2009!
