Executive Summary- For a Living Planet

Can we ever imagine a world where tigers are no longer roaming on the Indian Sub-
continent, or where coral reef are only found as decoration in museums or where marine
turtles, whales and dolphins are only found in captivity?

Such a world is more likely than we might imagine.

WWF-India is one of the largest conservation organisations engaged in wildlife and nature
conservation in the country.

Established as a Charitable Trust on November 27, 1969, it has an experience of over four
decades in the field. From a modest beginning, the organisation was propelled forward by the
efforts of its founders and associates who volunteered their time and energy to lend
momentum to this movement. WWE India is one such organisation which aims at the
promotion of nature conservation and environmental protection as the foundation for
sustainable and equitable development, through awareness programmes and events.
Earth Hour Bicycle Rally (Pedal for the Planet)

As a measurement towards environmental crisis, WWF India decided to hit the streets and
show their support for action against climate change. This event was organised exactly one
week before the Earth Hour initiative to switch off lights all over the planet for 1 hour on 27th
March 2010.

Date: Saturday, 20th March, 2010

Venue: Ambedkar Nagar, BRT car park

World Ocean Conference

Organised in Manado, Indonesia between 11th and 15th May 2010, global community gathered
at the conference to discuss the current issues facing the marine environment, specifically
those relating to climate change. On May14th, 76 countries agreed to push ocean issues as an
agenda at the UN climate talks in December at Copenhagen.

Coral Triangle Fishers Forum

With the aim of learning more about the issues that affect fishers and gain a common ground
in achieving sustainable and equitable fisheries, the forum allowed the participants to gain
perspective from them around the region.

At the WOC WWF launched a ground-breaking report with the scientific evidences that uses
scenario modeling to profile the vulnerability of people and resources in the Coral Triangle to
climate change based on the value of coastal resources to these communities, calling for
investment in climate adaptation across the Coral Triangle in Bali, Indonesia.

CONCLUSION

I found immense pleasure for the first time in writing this report and I am grateful to my
Mentor Ms Jaisree Anand for giving me such opportunity. My reason for choosing this topic
as my assignment report is due to the cause of my profound interest and concern in the
protection and sustenance of nature and natural tourism product which today is facing the
dearth of extinction and is endangered to the over exploitation of resources due to the
uncontrolled human activity to fulfill his unending needs and selfish wants, which is also
directly correlated to our Tourism and hospitality industry. It is almost impossible to imagine
a world without these natural beauties which are facing a global threat and is important for
human being’s sustenance too. Inhuman practices are injustice to nature and nature has its
own way of balancing the environment which ultimately the human kind will have to pay in
the long run. It’s yet not too late, but it has to be now or never. I hope this report might help
in getting its voice and help as an eye-opener, which is personally my concern and not just a
cut-copy-paste work. Finally, I would like to end by saying that with “Great Power comes
Great Responsibilities”, and I am contributing a bit through this report as I feel that we are
responsible human beings.

HUMAN KIND- Be both!

Thank You
