PCM is used with T-1 carrier system.

This carrier system combine the PCM signals from
many lines and transmit them over a single cable or
other medium.

PCM means Pulse Code Modulation

The process of converting an Analog signal to a
Digital signal or vice versa
T1 is also known as DS1
(1.544Mbps extended to 2Mbps)

A dedicated phone connection supporting

data rates of 1.544Mbps, min

A T-1 line actually consists of 24 individual

channels, each of which supports 64Kbits/
second.
