CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS: SECONDARY CREDIT COURSES

NIGHT SCHOOL AND ONLINE LEARNING CREDIT COURSES
The Toronto Catholic District School Board offers Night School and online eClass credit courses under the OSS curriculum guidelines.
Parents and students should consult with their day school guidance counsellor regarding diploma requirements, course selections, and prerequisite
courses. Course selections must be made in accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines.

REGISTRATION
REGISTRATION PROCEDURES
PROCEDURES NIGHT SCHOOL LOCATIONS, DATES AND TIMES
TCDSB students will only be able to register through their day school guidance SCHOOL DAYS START END TIME

Friday, February 25th, 2011. Registration forms are only
available through your Guidance Dept.
There will be NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION for TCDSB students.
Non-TCDSB students can apply for a maximum of two new credit courses. To
request a night school course, please submit an application online at:
www.tcdsb.org/continuinged/registration.htm and click on NON-TCDSB students.
Registration will begin on Wednesday, January 12th, 2011, at 5:00pm. Following

CLOSING OF CLASSES
The TCDSB reserves the right to cancel or relocate a class up to the 3rd session of classes.
Classes that are cancelled will be posted on our website at:
http://www.tcdsb.org/continuinged/cancellations.htm. It is the student's responsibility
to check on Monday, February 14th for all cancelled and relocated classes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ECLASS ONLINE COURSES
In addition to Night School courses, the TCDSB offers online credits. Students may
register for a maximum of two courses. To find out if online eClass learning is for you,
please visit our website at www.tcdsb.org/eclass

the submission of each application, an automated message will be sent to the
email address provided. This message will include important registration
information, as well as a link to confirm the request. Please note that all requests
must be confirmed in order to be processed and will be prioritized by the
confirmation date. Applicants will be placed on a waiting list and notified by
email if space is available.
Acceptance emails will be sent beginning on February 4th, depending on
availability. Adult Learners experiencing technical difficulties with the online
application may register in person on Wednesday, February 9th, between 6 p.m.
to 8 p.m. at the night school location that will be offering the requested course.
COURSE FEES
A consumables fee of $20 cash per course is payable by all students on the first session
of classes. International students must register in person at the Continuing Education
Dept. Please call 416-222-8282 ext. 2675 for an appointment. Course fees are applicable.
TEXTBOOK DEPOSIT
A textbook deposit of $65 cash is required for each course. Monies will be refunded at
the end of the course, provided borrowed materials are returned in good condition.
Students taking Grade 12 courses are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks.
EVALUATION
All students will be required to write a final exam. Students that are unable to fulfill this
condition will be considered not to have completed the course.
DISTRIBUTION OF REPORT CARDS
Report cards will be distributed to students during the last session of classes for Night
and eClass courses.
ALL STUDENTS MUST pickup their report cards during the last session of classes for
night school and eClass courses.
NON-TCDSB Students:
Students must submit their report card to their home school or transcript office. Contact
your school board or guidance department regarding this procedure.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance for the first class confirms the student's registration and secures the
registrants' place in that class. Students, who do not attend the first day of class, forfeit
their place in the class and will be placed on the waiting list. Due to the concentrated
nature of night school courses, regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory.
Parents must contact the night school location during night school hours to report an
absence or to inquire about their child’s attendance.

• Students must attend an in-class mandatory session (see below) at the CEC to
receive their course information package and meet their teachers. No emails
will be sent to students informing them when to attend their session.

http://www.tcdsb.org/eclass/courses/first_class.html after February 11th.
The TCDSB registration deadline is Friday, February 12th, 2011. Only if space is
available, students will be able to register through their day school guidance
counsellors during the mandatory sessions week.
ADULT LEARNERS, PART-TIME, PRIVATE STUDENTS
Adult learners, part-time or private school students are eligible to apply for eClass courses.
Students with a full time schedule at a publicly funded school are not eligible to apply this
term. The online course request site will be available starting on Wed., Jan. 12th, 2011,
at 5 p.m. NON-TCDSB registration procedures are as follows:
1. Visit http://www.tcdsb.org/continuinged/registration.htm and complete the online
application form located under NON-TCDSB students. Select eClass as your Night School
location.
2. An automated message will be sent to the email address provided. This message will
include important registration information, as well as a link to confirm the request.
All requests must be confirmed in order to be processed.
3. Non-TCDSB Students will receive an acceptance email beginning on February 4th, 2011
Information about the mandatory in-class session will be posted online (see below).
ECLASS: ONE-HOUR MANDATORY SESSION
• The registration deadline is Friday, February 12th, 2011.
• The in-class mandatory session is approximately 1 hour long.
• If you cannot make it personally to the mandatory session you may designate a family
member to come in your place.
• Students must bring their $20 consumables fee to their session. In addition, Non-TCDSB
students are required to provide a current transcript or credit counselling summary.
• All mandatory sessions will be held at the Catholic Education Centre - 80 Sheppard Ave
East, (Yonge & Sheppard).
• The specific dates and times for each session will be posted at:
http://www.tcdsb.org/eclass and click on First Class. Information will be updated after
Friday, February 11, 2011.
Students who do not attend the in-class mandatory session will forfeit their
placement in their eClass course.

5 *Please note: Email addresses with the domain name of Hanmail.net and 123mail.net have known issues with our system that may prevent you from
receiving emails from us.
Enter your 9-digit OEN (Ontario Education Number). This number is not your student number and it is located on the top of your transcript/report card/
6 credit counselling summary. *If you are an adult (21 and over) and do not have this number, the system will allow you to leave it blank.

7 Under Request the School, select the Night School location that will be offering the course of your choice.

Select your First Choice course. If applicable, refer to your transcript/credit counselling summary to enter the prerequisite course and mark for your
8 selection. (For example: Grade 12 English University ENG4U requires Grade 11 English University ENG3U with a passing mark.Enter this information in
the appropriate fields.)

9 Make another selection under Second choice course in case your first choice is cancelled at the same Night School location. *This step is optional.

After pressing the Submit button, review your information and edit it if necessary. Once you complete this step, an email message will be sent to you at
10 your email address. *Some email services may consider our email as spam or junk mail. Please allow messages from our domain tcdsb.org.

11 In the email with the subject line “Your request information from TCDSB Continuing Education” you must select one of the three options:

i. Confirm your request information - By pressing this you certify that your registration information is correct.

ii. Edit request - Allows you to make a change to your registration form.
*VERY IMPORTANT: Once you confirm, this option will be disabled and you will not be allowed to make changes to your course selection. If you need to
make a change after confirming, you must delete your request and re-register.

iii. Cancel Request - Allows you to delete your request.

12 After choosing option i. Confirm your request information - a pop up window containing your registration form will appear on your screen. Please print
this form and obtain the necessary signatures/school stamp on the registration form and submit to the Night School location along with your transcript on
the first evening of classes. *Adults are not required to obtain a school stamp or other signatures. Adult learners who are between 18 years and 21 years
old must provide a transcript at the time of registration.
Students that request a course may receive an acceptance email any day starting on February 6th up to the March 1st depending on availability. Adult learners
experiencing technical difficulties with applying online may register in person on Wednesday, February 10th anytime between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at our Continuing
Education Department located at 80 Sheppard Ave. East.
If you are registering for more than one course, you must fill out another online registration form. One registration form is required per course. Students can expect
an acceptance email from the principal up to the second evening of classes.
