Teacher: Arbitrarily pick a letter from each group of three and say its sound with fathah to carry out the
activity. You may want student to point at the letter during a first drill and then circle the letters during a
second drill to provide for more practice with different letters. Or you can laminate to make a reusable
activity. Alternatively, cut into groups of threes to make activity cards.

Learn
Now, insha Allah, in this lesson, we learn how to read words that have the
vowel fathah in them.
We are going to start off reading one letter in a 3 letter word and the fathah
over it. Then, we’ll add the next letter, and then the last letter.
Optional: Before (or after) reading, name the letters in each 3 letter word.

Learn
You have learned to read three letter words whose only vowel is the fathah,
such as:
When you have words such as these (3 letters, only fathahs), these words
tell us three things:
1. They are verbs (words that show action) -- The word for verb in
Arabic is fi’l.
So when you see words like these, even if you don’t know what they
mean, you know that a male person (or it) did something already.
Example:
This words means “he wrote.”
In this lesson, you will learn the meanings of 12 of these action words or
verbs

Meaning Drill:

Repeat this drill for each row several times
Review Drill: Read the word, say the letters in the word

Teacher Tip: You may want to cut the table up into three column boxes first, then do the drills. Student
can then only focus on a set of three words at a time instead of the whole page.
1. Watch your teacher perform certain actions. Name the verb in Arabic
that fits what your teacher did, remembering that the verbs really
mean “ a he” already did something.
2. Cut out the verbs cards below. Scramble them up. Pick a card. Read
it and perform the action on the card for others to guess,
remembering again that the verbs really mean “a he” already did
something.
